Red Wolf Golf Resort
About
There's no doubt Red Wolf Golf Resort is a Texas-themed facility, complete with holes named after the Harrington's bulls (they are providers of bulls for professional rodeos) and a Southwestern-styled clubhouse. As for the golf course, Jay Riviere's design has always been considered a fine layout. Take advantage of the easier front nine by scoring well on the opening holes. No. 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. It shoots through a narrow opening uphill into the sloped fairway. This one is mean -- it was formerly a par 5 -- and requires a long approach over a lake.

Doesn’t look bad in the picture but it is. Luckily there’s been a lot of rain. Give it a couple of weeks in this heat it will all be brown. Photo submitted by u480307563 on 08/06/2024

Pretty good for the money
Pretty decent golf course. Greens are in pretty good shape, fairly slow, but not bumpy or sandy. Sandtraps are well kept. Fairways are hard which means you get pretty good roll, but it isn't like hitting off concrete either. No roughs, miss the fairway and you are hitting from hard dirt. Playing from the tips makes it a somewhat challenging golf course for an intermediate player.
Great course for the price
Great golf course for the price. Way better than Indian Shores or Kingwood Cove. Also has a friendly staff. Will definitely be going back!
Good Value For the Price
It was hot as blazes today but the course played well. Course was in good shape including the greens. Greens played consistent and were moderate in speed. Only problem was getting behind a slow group on the front 9 causing a looooong round of golf in the mid-day heat.
This course was in great shape for summer
Have played Red Wolf in past but this is the best shape I have ever seen it in. Fairways are firm but good with few bare areas. Greens are awesome. Roll very well and when dry are a little faster than I remember. Some holes play a little long, example # 9 is a long par 4 with an approach carry over a pond. Even a good drive will leave 160 to 175 over the water to the green. Layup hole for me. Overall a great course
good course
Enjoyed the layout. Eighteen is a bear. The rest of the course is a challenge for the average golfer but not unfair.
Excellent for the price.
Course was in good condition, especially the greens. Perhaps as good as any in Houston and better than most. Fairways were hard, but grass covered. The bunkers needed raking, but were in good condition. Pace of play was good , just a tad over 4 hours on a weekend morning.
I intend to play here again soon.
Great course. Excellent greens
Aside from a few rough patches in the fairway the entire course was excellent. Greens were lime putting on a pool table. Staff was very friendly as well. Highly recommend this course.
Course in Great Shape
with the exception of a couple of rough tee boxes, the whole course was in very good shape.
The course was nice.
The course is in pretty good shape. Greens rolled true. Fairways were green.
This course has a little bit of everything
This has been one of my favorite courses to play for many years. It is challenging yet not impossible for any type of player. It is covered with many trees which adds to the natural beauty of the course. It is a fun course with many different hole layouts making it easy to want to come back. Presently it is in one of the best conditions with good grass in the fairways and very smooth greens.
Nice Course
Nice course, extremely busy and crowded, when I played.
great value
play red wolf on a fairly regular basis. course is kept in good condition. challenging course with lots of water. always fun and challenging. best course for the money in the area
Red Wolf was Howling!
Coarse played tough if not in the fairway.Greens were true and in good shape. Lots of wildlife including the three jakelegs I played with! Had a great day .....
Course overall in good condition
I have played this course many times but it had been about a year since the last time. I was surprised how good the greens were. Only a few greens had a few bad spots on the edges. They rolled true and were at a good speed. Fairways overall were good, a few holes like #17 had a few bare spots in the fairway. Bunkers had plenty of sand and tee boxes were ok other than a couple that were in tough shape. Very please with the course, we will be back sooner than later.
Improving Week to Week
We were a twosome on a Tuesday. Played in about 3hrs. The greens were good, sand trap excellent (best sand traps in the area), fairways were watered and not rock hard, and most tee boxes were OK some need some serious work. The rough is very patchy with a lot of patches of dirt. That being said the course is improving and is a good layout. We rolled the ball and really enjoyed the round. With a good price it is well worth the price.
The Rain Really Helped
Course was in really good shape. The fairways got the water that was needed from the rainstorm earlier in the week. The greens were great, no bare spots, somewhat slow but that was OK because no bare spots unlike many courses in the area. The fairways are normally very hard (lack of water) but not the day we played. Beers and hot dogs were $1 on a special. We played the front nine in 90 minutes, made the turn at 10:45 and could not get hot dogs or beer because the kitchen didn't open until 11. Red Wolf is a decent layout with some difficult holes when played from the blue or black tees.
Fun course
This course was a lot of fun to play. A lot of elevation change and tough greens. It was not in great condition, the greens had some missing grass which made it a little uneven and put some bounce on the putts. But overall a good experience.
Still very nice secret
I usually love this course. Still do, but here were a few things from my play last Thursday. The fairways seem to have suffered a bit from the winter. The pro shop staff were great. Still no 9-hole rate, even though this is starting to become pretty common today. The rates went up a bit over the winter, but this is still a very good course for the money. I had an 8 am tee time, but the grill was still closed. The grounds crew did not come out to change holes until 9 am. And the guy followed me from green to green, changing holes and leaving the mower running while I was putting.
All in all, a lot of complaining for a pretty nice quickie round of golf. I'm always happy to get one in and this is a pretty good place to do it.
Rock Hard Fairways
Played on a Tuesday, somewhat of a crowd. Found out Tuesdays and Thursdays are $1 beer and hot dogs. The greens were very good but slow - no bare spots. The fairways were hard - needed some water. That being said, I cannot remember getting that much roll both my playing partner and I reached a couple of the par 5s in two and both of us got eagles. If you drive the ball straight, it really shortens the course. The price was very good and it was a lot of fun.
