Red Wolf Golf Resort
About
There's no doubt Red Wolf Golf Resort is a Texas-themed facility, complete with holes named after the Harrington's bulls (they are providers of bulls for professional rodeos) and a Southwestern-styled clubhouse. As for the golf course, Jay Riviere's design has always been considered a fine layout. Take advantage of the easier front nine by scoring well on the opening holes. No. 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. It shoots through a narrow opening uphill into the sloped fairway. This one is mean -- it was formerly a par 5 -- and requires a long approach over a lake.

Doesn’t look bad in the picture but it is. Luckily there’s been a lot of rain. Give it a couple of weeks in this heat it will all be brown. Photo submitted by u480307563 on 08/06/2024

great track, nice holes
liked the layout, but greens were just airated, to many holes had some hardpan on the fairways and it was a little pricey for the track.
Fun Course to play
I played back when it was Lake Houston, was not impressed at that time now its a good place. Fair price, course is challenging and you don't see other golfers good pace of play. Marshals are making rounds keeping the pace of play moving.
Wheres the grass?
If you don't like playing on grass this is the coarse for you. I know it was march but my home in ohio has more grass than these fairways and the greens were not maintain at all.
Good value very quiet
Friendly Staff and course was in ok condition considering winter weather this year
An old girlfriend
First played this course in 1981, but first time in a while since I've been out there (it's a long drive from most places in Houston). Clubhouse has been around for at least 10 years, but it's functional and nice. The original clubhouse was awful. The course is in better condition now than anytime I've played it. The par 3s are the most scenic I've seen in Houston. Greens are a little above average. This would be a very good course if they had country-club fairways. As it is, it's hard to find a good lie even in the middle. A small gripe: The yardages on No. 9 and No. 10 are not even close to as advertised on the scorecard. Never have been. The holes are about 50 yards longer. Don't know why, but if you play enough golf you get a feel for yardage and those aren't right. Otherwise, a delightful day and course to play if you can stay out of the trees.
Keep it in the middle!
Fairways are spotty with grass. As long as you're in the middle you'll probably be okay. Left or right edge and you're hitting off dirt. No rough to speak of. Tee boxes were atrocious. Greens and bunkers were in pretty good shape.
Interesting layout with several elevation changes. Overall a decent course for the $$$.
Nice course with good challenges
Course has some nice holes and even though the weather was poor the greens were rather speedy. I would recommend playing course if you like a lot of dog legs and some well placed bunkers.
Decent
Challengeing course, fun, needs to clean up tee/greens more
Hidden Gem in Huffman area
I had not heard of this course until a friend suggested our playing it, and I can't wait to return! Great layout: challenging but not so much that the average golfer can't score, varied terrain, big, fast greens, and a very friendly staff.
Greens are in GREAT shape
The course is long, even from the white tees, and is in great shape right now. The greens were immaculate and putted true even if I didn't all the time. Not a lot of topography to be excited about but the course is long enough and most of the greens are comparably small enough to make it challenging.
Best shape of the year so far.
Another nice round, starting as the sun came up this morning. Lots of Mosquitos for Nov. bring repellant. Fairways are growing in. The greens are running very fast. Everyone is always very friendly at this course, from the guy running the pro shop to the folks who practically fall over themselves to let you play through. $20 green fees make this a hidden gem in Huffman.
Great course for the price
Course was in great shape given all the rain we had. Greens were soft and fast, fairways were in great shape and course staff was very friendly. Plan on golfing here again soon.
I will play this course many more times.
Very friendly staff. There had been alot of rain and the greens were very soft ( plugging a few times when hitting the green ). I can't wait to play this course again when it's had a chance to dry up.
Great course, especially for the price.
Pace was good, no gimme holes, well maintained. Enjoyed the day, will go back.
Cannot beat the price
Not the greatest course in Houston, but well worth a 20 green fee. For this price, I will continue to play here again and again.
Worth the trip!
Pleasantly surprised with the conditions of the course, especially for the price. Fairways were a little dry, but we are in a drought. Greens were soft & receptive though and speed was just right. Fluffy, well maintained bunkers. Overall, a great value for a very challenging course and we'll worth the trip out to Huffman.
Mike the Magnificent ..... The Best Superintendant around.
I have been playing Red Wolf for a long time. I played the course more than 240 times since January 2012. The greens have been so consistent. Since Mike has taken over I don't notice a transition due to the seasons. He rolls them, sands, and aerofies them keeping them healthy. You must understand water limitations if you choose to complain about fairways. They are playable. The detail on this course is amazing if you saw this place in the 90's. Kudos to Mike he approachable and accountable. Red Wolf is great when you consider what Mike works with. Love this place.
A hidden gem in Huffman.
I definitely enjoyed this course as the staff was very professional and friendly; course well maintained and challenging.
Some of the fairways need a little TLC. Other than that the course is in great shape.
The price is great for this course. Like I said some of the fairways need a little TLC. The greens are in great shape. Huge and fast. The front desk personal is very friendly and very helpful. One thing I did like about it was that they give you a pin placement on the golf cart and its posted in the pro shop as you walk in. This course is a great for a person who hits it long and straight. Cause o.b. Comes into play on a few holes if your not in the fairway. When they say fairways and greens this track is one you must keep in the fairway or you will pay the price for any offshot.
Great value
Course in good shape. Very good value.
Greens were rolled nice.
Some of the fairways were a little thin.
Good pace of play.
Staff was helpful.
Kind of a far drive from downtown Houston, but worth the time.
