Red Wolf Golf Resort

About
There's no doubt Red Wolf Golf Resort is a Texas-themed facility, complete with holes named after the Harrington's bulls (they are providers of bulls for professional rodeos) and a Southwestern-styled clubhouse. As for the golf course, Jay Riviere's design has always been considered a fine layout. Take advantage of the easier front nine by scoring well on the opening holes. No. 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. It shoots through a narrow opening uphill into the sloped fairway. This one is mean -- it was formerly a par 5 -- and requires a long approach over a lake.

Doesn’t look bad in the picture but it is. Luckily there’s been a lot of rain. Give it a couple of weeks in this heat it will all be brown. Photo submitted by u480307563 on 08/06/2024

Horrible
myself and several others all had the tee time on Golf Now App and we were unable to play as the course was closed for whatever reasons there were no signs or anything else to understand why nobody was there working even had other people come to coarse and they just played there yesterday and made a other tee time it’s just ridiculous that nobody was there after I traveled 1hr 1/2 away
Favorite local course
I’m a beginner in immediate golfer and enjoy this course. I can go and play confidently and have a good price.
Horrible
This place is horrible, staff was rude, greens are terrible, groups of 5 single carts make the pace super slow. Do not go here.
Goat pasture
There is a reason I don’t play this course but once a year or so. Crab grass clumps all over the greens. The entire course had not been mowed in a couple of days. Pond overgrown with lilies. Course needs some attention very bad.
Poor upkeep
Course conditions are the worse lve seen. Ankle high grass on what is supposed to be the fairway. Much worse in the first and second cut.
Nice Course for the money. Let down on amenities.
Preface this by saying you get what you pay for. I got a Hot Deal on GolfNow and decided to give it a try.
Tee time was delayed by 30 minutes for no good reason. No starter or Marshall. Pace was OK for a Sunday afternoon, but could have been better.
Course layout is good, but the course needs a lot of TLC. Greens were hit or miss with weeds. Fairways were rough, and hard as a rock. Pretty much just weeds.
The snack bar and cart must have closed up shop at 1PM. I saw them before my tee time, but never again. By the turn, the snack bar was closed (3PM on a Sunday) despite there being a lot of people on the course.
The biggest issue I had with this course wasn't the course itself, it was the neighborhood kids. A group of kids on personal golf carts snuck onto the course and started playing into people. I almost caught a ball to the leg, and watched them do it again on the next hole to another group after I let them go through.
On the positive side, the range was decent, and they weren't forcing mats. Range balls were inexpensive, but not the best quality.
You get what you pay for
I had read the reviews on the course when we booked so I was expecting a great layout but bad course and green conditions; I got exactly what I expected.
But if you want a course for a mid to high handicapper, this is it. Not many people were playing so we didn't feel rushed and the fairways for the most part are pretty wide. I will play again as long as the fee is only $20.
Tough Course Conditions
Course and facilities in rough condition.
Grass and weeds mixed 50/50 and often 20/80 throughout fairways and greens. Traps often had as many weeds & rocks as sand. On occasion had to dodge dog pooh around tee boxes,...and most hole flags were tilting so severely they had to be removed prior to putting.
Love the course design but am disappointed with condition.
A bit rough in the middle
An awesome layout and full of character, however has been neglected recently. Looks like their putting some effort into restoring it to her former glory.
Gimmick Goat Track
Do not waste your time even considering this “Resort”, nothing about it constitutes that title. How this course has a 4/5 star rating leads me to believe that not only the homeless walking around the course are smoking crack, but also the people who have rated it more than 1 star. The clubhouse looks and smells like it was built in the 60s with no upgrades or repairs done since then. The bathrooms are disgusting and the staff was all lounged around and offered no help with checking in or directions for the property.
Warming up - the range look like someone’s poorly manicured backyard with no real features to mention. The range balls are all waterlogged and cut balls that are not worth hitting. They would be better off buying refurbished/reloaded balls from Walmart for their range. The practice green while small, was sufficient sized to roll some putts. However, the poanna was so badly overgrown on the practice green, you could not possibly roll a putt on a real line if your life depended on it.
Course play - The tee boxes were are the nicest part of the entire course…. again, not saying much at all. The fairways and rough hardly had any distinction and both were either muddy and drenched, or hard as a rock and unplayable. There were no well maintained areas of play with grass. The bunkers had standing water in all of them and it has not rained in the area for weeks. While I’d like to say the greens were like the practice green, they were far from it in the worst way. 3/9 first nine holes had standing water on the green and in the cups. All of the front nine greens were completely overgrown with poanna, to the point of being unputtable. There were tire tracks and massive areas on every green that were completely destroyed and unplayable.
I left after 9 holes because of how terrible the course conditions were and I would strongly recommend anyone considering this course, to play literally anywhere else, including a dump or your local park. You would be much better off and probably have a more enjoyable time. I can’t believe they are charging people money to play this course in good conscience. This course should be shut down and overhauled…. AGAIN.
