Red Wolf Golf Resort
About
There's no doubt Red Wolf Golf Resort is a Texas-themed facility, complete with holes named after the Harrington's bulls (they are providers of bulls for professional rodeos) and a Southwestern-styled clubhouse. As for the golf course, Jay Riviere's design has always been considered a fine layout. Take advantage of the easier front nine by scoring well on the opening holes. No. 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. It shoots through a narrow opening uphill into the sloped fairway. This one is mean -- it was formerly a par 5 -- and requires a long approach over a lake.

Doesn’t look bad in the picture but it is. Luckily there’s been a lot of rain. Give it a couple of weeks in this heat it will all be brown. Photo submitted by u480307563 on 08/06/2024

Nice course, close to home
We arrived at 8:30 on a Wednesday morning. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We hit a few range balls on a well maintained range and got started on time. The great thing about this course is it is not overly crowded on a weekday morning and the price for the round could hardly be beat. $20 per person, including cart. The fairways needed a little watering and TLC, but the greens were really coming in for the summer and were very fast. We never felt rushed and never caught up to another group throughout our play. The concession had just the right"ballpark" type foods and beer, but nothing fancier. Overall, a great value and a nice place to spend a few hours chasing a ball.
Still great after al these years
I first played this course back in the mid-70's when it was called Lockshire. The same issues that were apparent then are still apparent now and to me are just a part of the course. I like the changes that have been made on some of the holes including the addition of water on 16 as well as creating some waste areas along a couple of the fairways. The sand is totally different now with the soft white sand in the bunkers than the course sand that was originally there.
I like Riviere's courses and this is one of my favorite. Challenging from the white tees and all you could want from the blue tees. The greens were in good shape and still roll true but are not quite as fast as they could be. There has always been hard pan off the fairways and it is still there but shame on you for missing the fairway. The same places they have always had problems growing grass are still there and it is again, just a part of the course
As long as I can get somebody to drive me out there I will continue to play this course.
The layout is good
Greens were in good shape, moderate speed. Fairways were tightly mown (too short for spring conditions), many areas of the fairways and rough need attention. Growing season is starting, conditions should improve with work. Good value, good layout, challenging par 3's.
The greens are in good shape and the price to play is very fair.
I play this course a couple times a year. I love the course layout and the greens are in way better shape than in the past. The tee boxes and fairways were in about the same shape as in the past "Need a little work". That being said, it's a fun course to play and a great value.
The greens are in great shape
Enjoyed playing my round. The greens are challenging and the layout is good. There are a few holes where you must carry over water. The fairways were not that great..hard surface yet playable.
Work was being done to address this issue..The holes are spaced out well..didn't have to worry about errant shots, except for
hole 10 with 18. The greens are great..not flat and boring..but have ridges, length, and speed. Will be playing this course again. I gave this course a three star rating based on the fairway surface conditions in some areas..Need rain.
Greens were excellent!
Red Wolfe greens are in great shape. Of course, Spring is a good time before the heat sets in here in TX. Speed of play was fast - played late in the day - Fairways need some help. Value was excellent for our green fees. And the Club Pro and staff were very accommodating after having worked a Scramble tournament just before we got on.
Great little community course. Great for the average golfer.
Great little community course. Best keep secret for a long time. Enjoyable for the high to mid handicap player. Can also be challenging for the low hadicapper from ther tips.
Good Value
Fast tough greens. Fairways were in decent shape considering the recent dry spell.
Fairways Help!
Greens are in great shape fairways need lots of TLC. If you play winter rules and lift clean and place conditions are tolerable.
Will play again for price. Course is very picturesque.
A great course for the money.
Red Wolf is one of my favorite courses to play for a moderate green fee. It is very challenging...tight, woods, water, bunker, tough holes. But nice greens for putting and overall delightful to play. The price for the value can't be beaten in the Houston area in my opinion.
Great Deal at this Hidden Gem
Watch out for the Wolf! A hidden gem in Huffman that is just the right mix of risk and reward. 9 and 17 are tough, be sure to lay-up short of the water to attack the green. Greens are in great shape. Fairways are bouncing back after a tough winter. Looking forward to seeing the Wolf again soon.
You pay for what you get.
Greens rolled very well. They were a little slow but not an issue.
The fairways were terrible.
The course was not well marked by private property to hard to determine OB which caused some arguing amongst the group.
We paid $30 through Golf now which was supposed to be a 23% discount but I found out at the course that the regular rate was $34 so something doesn't add up there.
I'd pay $30 to play there again, but not a penny more.
Greens in very good condition
I play Red Wolf 4/5 times a month. They do a great job keeping the course in very good playing condition. They're greens are in better shape than most of the other area courses right now.
Great course for the dollar!
I really enjoy playing this track. The greens are always in great shape. Bunkers are in good condition. Fairways are fair.
the course has a great lay out and can be easy or difficult depending on how you hitting that day.
the course was in great shape, if i had one complaint it would be that the tee boxes were a little too sandy other than that everything was great.
The layout is great. The greens were receptive. It ends there.
Once again I am very disapointed in the fairways at Red Wolf, already this early in the season and they have very little grass on them and they are like concrete. Its really sad that a track as pleasing as this to be in such horrible shape.
Fairways have more cushion than most places I have played under $50.
This is a nice little quiet place. The greens are very fast but the thing I like the most is the fairways are in pretty good shape and have a little more cushion than most places. Can't wait for summer when the grass is growing better to play there. If they are good now then they will be even better when the weather is better.
Good greens, nice staff, fair layout
The course conditions are coming along. This should come together well in late spring. Extremely friendly staff and fair to easy layout with a few challenging holes mixed in. Pace of play was slow the day I played though.
Rough course conditions, but not bad overall
A lot of the fairways were hard and dried out. Taking even small divots could sting your hands a little. Overall course design is not bad. Some tougher holes on the back 9 that include plenty of water to contend with. Bunkers were in good shape with plenty of sand. Tons of trees line the course, which adds a degree of difficulty that I liked. The clubhouse is very good with some good food and great prices. The staff was very friendly as well.
