Greens Good/Fairways Bad
Need to do some work on the fairways. There are weed patches and patches of dirt and St. Augustine right in the middle of some of the fairways. Greens were very nice though.
Great Value
The course was private up until 4 years ago and is a very basic course nestled within nature and homes. There's some construction underway and a few of the tee signs were knocked down. There are no cart girls or snack shop so you should bring your own cooler with whatever you need. There is a bathroom near the 5th tee or so. We played during the week and enjoyed not being rushed. Even so, we finished right at 3 hours with two of us.
Nice enough for the money and I'll play it again.
Hi u000008226518,

Has improved greatly
I played this course about 3 years ago and the course was not up to par. I said that I would not play there again. I decided to give the course another chance and I'm glad I did. They flipped the nines and the best hole is now 18. The fairways were much better than the last time I was there. Greens were amazing. They putted true and fast. I will play again soon
Hi Richard4802800,
We are so glad to hear that you love the course and that the best hole is 18 now. Thank you for the great review.
We hope to see you soon!

Nice course for the money
Played 18 holes with my son and had a good time. Course is in need of lots of maintenance but still fun to play. Saw many deer and lots of fawns running around. Views are magnificent, many homeowners have wonderful views of the hills and lake. Would return at a later date.
Hi cstedman3,
We are so glad to hear that you and you son liked the course and had a fun day. We are glad the nature was beautiful that day.
We hope to see you and your son, soon!

Nice View with Sub-Par Course Conditions
The fairway is fairly undistiguishable from the rough, and the greens are poorly kept. On the other hand, the course provides for a fiarly challenging game with a scenic back drop.
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your feedback. We are continuing to work hard on our course conditions and are heading in the right direction. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed the views. Come back and see us again soon!
This course has has great views!
This course has great views. The course needs work on its fairway grasses and the greens need a little help. Otherwise it's a nice average course.

Because of all the rain in the past several weeks the course played really good
Highland Lakes Golf Course
One of my favorite courses to play in Central Texas, challenging but fair. Played back nine twice as the front nine was closed due to construction perhaps due to the recent flooding here in Austin, Texas.
Use Every Club In The Bag
Anyone that does not like this course is either spoiled or wimping out!!! A golfer has to control their ball on this course. Less is more. Keep it in front of you and in the short grass and it is a PLEASURE to play!
Course Review
I don't think there is lawn mower on the property. Even with all the rain we have had.. they should have been able to mow the fairways and greens. No point in playing golf when then greens are like putting in a front yard and the fairways are cabbage patch. A lot of elevation changes and scenic views of Lake Travis.
scenic layout
The course was wet and the grass had not been mowed due to the large amount of rainfall in the Austin area during the past few weeks . Some of the bunkers had been washed out from the rain and need to be re-worked. Otherwise, it is a very nice layout with many elevation changes and scenic views of Lake Travis. Not a long course, but accuracy is paramount. I will definitely play it again when it dries out.
Course has potential but needs work
Highland Lakes GC could be a very nice course if some $$ was put into some improvements. For example, the grass on the greens is not cut close enough thereby putting drag on your putts and preventing a true read and tough roll for the golf ball. The greens are also mostly postage stamp in size and could be enhanced by enlarging many of them. The fairways are in pretty good shape and we liked the lies we got in them. The tee boxes were also pretty good. The overall layout of the course is nice, with a premium on shot placement off the tee box. There are great views of the lake although the water level is still way down. The pro shop is operating out of a makeshift building and does not have much in the way of amenities such as food or golf equipment. Hopefully this situation is just temporary. The golf carts are nice enough--gasoline powered carts that are new. This golf course could offer much more if there were dollars to put into improving the greens. With the population booming in the Austin and Hill Country area, there is a great need for some quality golf courses to enjoy. Until we see some improvements in the greens, which are the most important part of any golf course, we are reluctant to recommend this particular course. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a place to whack some balls around then this may be the place for you.
Good course
Good, but not great. Very friendly staff, but clubhouse just a shack and no driving range and no putting green to warm up nor any beverage cart. Lot of elevation change and blind shots. Super difficult for first time playing, often fairway lies are uneven which make a shot 3 times as difficult. Greens in very good shape, fairways & tee boxes average. Premium is accuracy over distance. Great customer service made up for the lack of facilities. Worth it to give it a shot playing.
Highland Lakes
Awesome and challenging course. In beautiful condition
Nice hill country terrain
Poor bunker conditions and not a hint of yardage markers from teeing area. Fairways were OK for this early in the spring but transitional areas are sparse and greens pretty slow with rye grass still predominant. Good value for a nice hill country lay out.
Course in GREAT shape!
It has been a few years since I played this course and...WOW! Much effort has been put into making this course better and it has really paid off. Fairways and greens are the best of any course in the Northwest Austin area I have played this year. Congratulations to the groundskeepers at Highland Lakes. This course rocks! Hole #7 is so much fun!
Awesome Day With My Son
Really nice course. Narrow and challenging. Good bang for your buck.
Tough Course
Beautiful course! You are surrounded by Lake Travis. Lots of up and down. Short, but extremely challenging.
Great Hill Country Views
The course was in good shape, had beautiful views of the Hill Country, and was very fun to play. Houses are a bit too close to the course for my comfort, but I'm not a great golfer so take that for what it's worth. I'd play here again, and as an added bonus it's a great value too!
Fun course for the price
Very fun place to play. its affordable and can give you some challenging shots. The coures was very well maintained.
