Great views of "Travis creek, " that being said, this course also needs some water.
Good neighborhood course--especially if you don't have great expectations
Elevation changes make the course a challenge
Enjoyed the round because of elevation changes. Hadn't played a course recently that has these kind of optical illusions. Several holes have blind shots which make it interesting. Need to play target golf based on measured distances. Its the kind of course you need to play a couple of times to see all the obstacles. Had the Hot Deal rate so very inexpensive. Course doesn't seem to be getting that much play so conditions are not nearly as well kept as its sister course - Lago Vista. Next time I play here I'll move up to the silver tees.
Highland Lakes Golf on a Sunday
Played on a Sunday afternoon. Players were few and there was never anyone pushing me along too fast.
Fairways, roughs, and greens in pretty good shape.
Only downside was the cart paths which in many places are full of pot holes needing repair. But, that was just a small annoyance.
Enjoyed my round!
quality greens/fairways need tending
Greens were true and in above average. Fairways were patchy. The players were friendly and eager to let our twosome play through.
Awesome views of Lake Travis
One of the best courses around
Great value Friendly staff and great pace of play
Enjoyed the experience
I had not played this course in years, they have made it much more golf friendly. There was a lot of Bermuda around the greens and some of the fairways needed some smoothing out. For example, on one fairway they had cut down many trees. Even though the ball was left of those trees by 5 or 10 yards, the balls ( both of us) took a hard right. Again, the fairway needs some smoothing out.
Still, it was a relaxing experience, which is what golf is all about. Right???
Enjoyed it, will do it again.
Hill Country views with lots of character
Highland Lakes is a somewhat challenging course with a lot of scenic views. With a little more rain and cooler temperatures this course will be awesome. My buddies and I played at the peak of a hot August day and it was still a fun course. The course had just punched the greens so putting was a challenge. All around you could see improvements being made to make it an even better course. The course has just purchased brand new gas carts which makes it a breeze to get around. We all enjoyed this course a lot. The attendant at the cart shack was very cordial. I highly recommend you give this course a try. You will not be disappointed.
Loved this course
The scenery was beautiful. You could see the lake and hills and trees. There were deer all over this course. The staff was very friendly and the prices were very good for this area. I loved this course.
Challenging
Great course. Stay in the middle as the rough iscthat
Hill Country Secret
This course is nestled in the hill country west of Austin with great lake views and wildlife. It is not as crowded as other courses which allows you to really enjoy the course and its scenery. The fairways are in good shape and the greens will test your skills with their undulations.
The staff and course marshals are friendly and ready to help with playing tips.
Up for a challenge???
This course is a lot of fun but better bring some extra balls if you don't hit it pretty straight. One of my friends that came has only played a handful of times. He bought a 24 pack of balls at the pro shop before we started and then when you get to the last 4-5 holes the people that live on the course sell balls out of their back yards and he had to buy from them to finish his round. LOL
Nice
Great course beautiful views. Greens could be smoother.
Pleased & Satisfied Customer
Views are beautiful. Course is in good condition, challenging but fun.
on the upswing
my first time out there and I could see that they are making strides to improve this course. The clubhouse is under construction and looks like it will be very nice once completed. The greens played great. Will for sure go back. The bunkers need some help but who wants to play from those anyways.
Enter at your own risk....
This course provides some pretty views of what used to be lake travis, pre-drought. It's also a really tough golf course, in horrible shape. The greens and grass are mown, and very green. The green quality though is not very good. Lots of bumps, holes, and portions under repair. The fairways are mown, but inconsistent, and always sloped or slanted one direction. Some of their bunkers are circa Old Tom Morrison - unkempt, and truly hazardous to go into. One in particular was over strewn with rocks, big ones, 2-4x my fist everywhere. You can't play out of that. The cart paths are another hazard. Along with incredibly sloped tracks, they are crumbling apart, and in some cases disappearing in spots. Thankfully, the carts are powerful. This is crystal falls in literally half the shape, with a lot more drastic elevation changes. I would play Lago over this course again.
If you decide to try it out anyway, bring lots of golf balls, and look for the construction trailer behind the under construction club house. The gentleman was nice, and had a snack bar of sorts available. It has the basics covered, but nothing else. (soda, gatorade, one type of sandwich, one type of burger, beer, candy bars)
This course has potential to be something really great, if it were fully updated and in top golf course condition - hopefully will improve in next year or two. Until then, buyer beware, and play at your own risk. (I played 6-22-14)
great course!
Beautiful course in great shape. Excellent views with awesome elevation changes. Clubhouse and pro shop under construction but bar area finished. Will definitely visit again.
Slow play likely
The good news:
Fairways and greens fairly good shape. Elevation changes and slopes of greens make the course interesting and sometimes challenging. New clubhouse is under construction and should look nice when finished later this year. Price is moderately low.
The bad news:
Be ready for slow play. Today and one of the other few times I have played this course the pace was just over five hours. A course marshal was touring the course each time but when asked why two fivesomes were just ahead of us his only answer was a shrug and stated that the fivesomes were keeping up with the MGA groups ahead of them. I am guessing MGA is some "members"(?) that the marshal is unwilling or unable to get moving faster. I also disagree with his attitude that the fivesomes were playing at a good pace.
Other bad items are very poor golf cart paths in some areas and the course is a bit of a drive from the Austin area. In my book these issues and especially the slow play are not worth the trouble so I will not be playing this course again.
fun course and excellent staff
very enjoyable place to enjoy a round. Course has challenging shots and great views.
Give it time
I have played this course dozens of times and I love the fact that is has lake views, (well, what's left of it) and wildlife throughout the track. I have seen better days with the fairways, they have gotten a little high and inconsistent. Always be careful where you walk because there is a ton of deer droppings all over, not the course's fault, just a reminder. The add ons with the bar and grille are fantastic. Sammy is the pro shop is very friendly and a good guy to shoot the breeze with.
I had a career that gave me the luxury to place golf all over the city with comped deals but I always find myself coming back to this place.
The course has great elevation changes to challenge you.
I really enjoyed the round. For the price that we received for 4 golfer. Unbelievable! 73% savings. You do the math.
