Facilities
The facilities are closed for business since a few years. The weather has played its parts and makes it an awfull entrance to the course. The course itself is surprisingly nice and fun to play!
Value at the right time
I tend to hit this course around 11am during the week to get the $10 deal. This is well worth the money. Anyone planning to go at their higher, early morning rates will be disappointed.
It may look abandoned when you first pull up, the "pro shop" is in the back. The course is not pristine, but the view and atmosphere is where you'll find all the value. You'll see at least 20 deer on any given day as well as a lot of other wildlife.
Be cautious of the fire ants. The place is covered in mounds but I did notice that last week when I was there they had a cart going around applying pesticide so hopefully that has set in.
I'm a big fan of this place and it holds a lot of potential. It has several challenging parts and an enjoyable mix of hills and surprising doglegs. Anything over $30 for a tee time is pushing it, but if you get a hot deal like I do at $10 you really can't beat it.
Wonderful view of Lake of Travis. Love to play this course again and again...

DO NOT PLAY OR PAY HERE> it is horrendous
This course is awful! I cannot begin to explain how bad this course is. The greens have not been taken care of in weeks. There were ant mounds all over each green and it was like trying to put on a soccer field. The fairways have not been mowed in quite some time either. There was not a fairway due to the whole hole being the same length. They tried to charge us 42.00 per person. Luckily we had a discount card. when you drive up the sign out front had grass so long that you can not see it. the clubhouse has a torn awning that is just hanging there and a water fountain that has no water in it. I wish I had stopped and turned around right there. The pro shop is located in the basement of the closed main floor of the clubhouse. The pro shop is a small window that the people sell a fe wgolf balls and snicker bars.
terrible overall condition. course needs major attention
This course is in horrible condition the the bunkers have grass growing in them they have not been maintained in a long long time. The fairways are in terrible condition the only things that seem to get some maintenance are the greens and the middle tee boxes. This course is worse than any muni I have played. Definitely not worth the money for $10 maybe.
Very nice Hill Country course.
Fun and challenging course set in the hills of Lago Vista.
Good course with many blind shots.
Overall this is a fun course with many blind shots due to being very hilly and many older, mature trees. Being we've been in a drought for the last several years the fairways and turf around the greens are getting pretty thin and the soil pretty hardpan. Greens were in good shape.
Other amenities were good and the prices at the snack bar were very affordable!
Very poor golf course
Poor greens and fairways. Needs tons of upgrades. Club house looks like a gas station counter. Will never play there again. Stay away from this course.
The greens need work. Super slow and bumpy
If you have trouble keeping it in the fairway take lots of balls and enjoy the views!
Always a great time
This course has great views and has a fun and challenging layout. If u can find this course and bypass the abandoned clubhouse you will be rewarded with a fun round of golf. The $2 beers is also a nice touch.
Have played this course many times and it is still a wonderful place to spend a day
This is one of the great courses in the Texas hill country. Lots of trees, hills and wildlife. Didn't manage to hit a deer this time but have in the past. Walked within 5 feet of several deer. They are almost like pets. Thanks for the great price.
Highland Lakes
Course was in good shape for the weather we've had. It was a very hot day and I was just about the only player out there which really helped the pace of play. This course has great views and a good mixture of challenging holes and hole that you can score on.
A thinkers course, must be accurate.
This is a true diamond in the rough! The clubhouse is rundown and abandoned, no practice range, but it makes up for it on the course. The greens were fair, course conditions were fair, but the course layout was great. I was stunned to find nobody here, played 36 holes in 5 1/2 hours. I loved the challenge of the elevation changes and having to position my tee shots. Maybe it's me, but this is a gem that I hope stays in business!
Great price and pretty good conditions
The resort/clubhouse is non-existent. However the golf if is a great value. Sand traps are not playable, but the greens are very good.
the course has great scenery
I was a little sceptical when making tee time for this golf course because it plays second fiddle to the other golf course in the area. The clubhouse is under renovation and has been for years and it doesn't supply a driving range. I was surprised to see that the fairways were trimmed beautifully and the greens were a little slow for my liking but in fantastic shape and all the bunkers were clear of any debris and in very good condition also. The course design is great with lots of elevation. Would love to see the clubhouse completed and would support the cause by playing here again and again. I would hate to see this beautiful golf course close down like it has once before.
so much potential, unrealized.
I bet this place was great if not outstanding once upon a time. It reminds me of a kid who blew his inheritance. No one was rude or anything but the course seems to be mailing it in on services and for sure on amenities. I thought it was closed down when i pulled up. At the right price and if the drive wasnt as long as it is for me id still play it again.
Scary Looking Clubhouse, but Great Golf Course
It's kind of a scary sight when you first pull up. The building is boarded up and looks like something from a horror movie, but just drive around the back and you'll find the pro shop down at the bottom of the hill. They should really put some money into that old building because it could be a really nice event center (private investors I'm talking to you). Look past the run down clubhouse and you'll find a very nice golf course with beautiful views of Lake Travis.
The fairways are trimmed short, so you get quite a bit more roll compared to Lago Vista. The greens aren't too terribly fast, but still offer some tough breaks. The view on #9 was so nice, I made a note of it on my scorecard.
Would have liked to see a marshal out there to break up the group of 7 locals playing in front of me and my buddy. Fortunately, we were both so terrible, they really didn't slow us down too much at all. I'm sure if better golfers were behind a group of 7 they would have been pretty ticked off.
Overall, had a good time on a well maintained course. Don't let the clubhouse scare you away, there's a great course around it.
Value course
When you arrive, it looks like a war zone when you see the boarded up clubhouse, but they are open. This is a course of expectations. If you come looking for a nice course, you will most likely be disappointed. This is not a course to take friends to to impress them. That said, if you are looking to put in a round at a new place and have your expectations set for a course that is maintained like riverside (in Austin), you will be happy. Scenic views, nice hole layouts, room for shot making, etc. I had a good time and got in a lightening fast round on a Saturday mid-day, which is nice. Overall, it was worthwhile and someplace I would go to again just to get in an inexpensive round with good views.
The other Lago Vista course
I was pleasantly surprised how well maintained and challenging this course was. My gold partner and I really appreciated many of the pin placements, and overall condition of the greens and fairways. I was disappointed with the look of the clubhouse facility, the city should look for some investors to make improvements. I'd play here more often and even consider buying a property close by.
