Holes 18
Type Semi-Private

Length 7053 yards
Slope 135
Rating 74.3

Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. 18 holes were designed by Arthur Hills while the remaining nine came from the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. All of the nines have different characteristics but they share a rolling landscape that is unusual for a golf course in Ohio. The Meadows nine is considered to be the gentlest of the three nines since it doesn't have the trees and water that the other two do, but it still provides a good challenge. The golf course has a memorable finishing hole with out-of-bounds along the entire right side leading to the double-tiered green.

Good condition. Traps are terrible.

Greens in good shape with true rolls. None of the numerous traps were raked. We raked a spot and placed the ball before hitting out of them.

Still needs work

I've put off playing Shaker this year because it's always been a special course for me. They've changed ownership several times over the last 7 years (that's how long I've been playing) and sometimes it gets better and sometimes not. This ownership has a ways to go to get the course to the level it should be. (And used to be) Yesterday the greens were good, but they're losing a few of them and that's a shame. Their fairways are in trouble too and I hope they can get them back. Disappointing, because I thought the weather this year had really helped all the courses stay in great shape. Anyway, we played Woodlands to Meadows and it was pretty good value. I'll keep my hopes up.

Good course - fair challenge from the tips, small target greens.

Played 7/19 - not bad course, expected a little bit better conditions - tees were torn up, fairways brown in a lot of areas but we have had a lot of rain,. Greens good shape, not as fast as the staff thinks they are. Overall good, good challenge, good layout, 7100+ from tips and it played it. I'd go back.

The original 18 Lakeside/Woodlands are a super combo.

Excellent track...one of my favorites in Southern Ohio. The Lake Side/Woodlands 18 is fantastic. Very fair, a little too tough for me from the Black tees...white tees are my preferred tee box. Woodlands, for me is a very challenging 9 holes. After 10 it just keep coming...11 is a long par 4 and 12 a difficult downhill par 4. Will keep coming back. It is my preferred course in the Cincinnati area.

The course was very wet

I am from the Detroit area and my wife and I were down visiting our son's family, so he and I played at the 7:24 tee time yesterday morning. It was cart path only which was expected, bunkers were unplayable due to the rain, and we had to play lift clean and place to have any chance at scoring. Pace of play was fine, we were a twosome so we played through a few groups, who were very friendly and cordial, asking us to play through. Down side to the course was, I guess they are making hole numbers changes, and we got lost 2 or 3 times during the round, which added to our pace of play. And we really wanted to play the Lakes course but they told us it was unavailable. All in all though we liked the course and we will be back.

Great course for the more skilled players. Beginners bring lots of balls and patience

I played Woodlands to Meadows with my father. I'm a low handicap and my dad is an absolute beginner. Playing from the tips, I struggled to break 80 on a long and wet golf course that is full of many difficult shots and for a public course had quite slick greens. I must say I did enjoy the challenge though. My dad however did not. To put it plainly this is just way too much golf course for the beginning golfer even from the up tees as this course is loaded with forced carries, tons of bunkers, and some severe heather for the errant tees shots. For those seeking a challenge though, I highly recommend the course. The only real negative I can say is that the Meadows nine is not quite as good as the other two nines (Woodlands and Lakeside). However, the Meadows by no means a pushover as it is I believe the longest of the nines, it just lacks some of the scenery that the other two nines possess

This course is in great condition.

Wide variety of holes requiring use of every club in your bag. One of the most scenic places I've played, especially the "original 18".
The greens were smooth and true, the pace of play was good considering the difficulty of the course.

Coming back

Its not the old shaker run yet but its showing signs of life. Greens are still a little bit sluggish in pace but are rolling smooth again. Fairways in nice shape. You can see they have been working on the bunkers, The two I played out of played well, others looked spotty. All in all it was well worth the $39 I paid to play. If they can get the greens back up to their old standards Shaker will be a must play again.

Great course

Overall the course was great and maintained well. The greens have bounced back from last year when they all nearly died out. They are still on the mend, there are lighter collared spots all over the greens that provide for some inconsistencies with putting.

The only issue I had was that the tere were no starters anywhere to regulate pace of play. I sat of about 15 minutes on no 10 waiting to tee off and it didn't look like teeing off was going to happen anytime soon. So I turned around and played the front again.

Terrible condition for a course with potential

I came to Shaker Run expecting to play a nice golf course. I'd give this course a 4/10 and but only because it has a great layout. Otherwise I'd give it a 3/10. They should have stuck with the original 18 because obviously the new nine is not as nice and they can't maintain any of that or the original course. The course has such a great layout but poor condition made it seem like I was on a below average public course. The fairways had plenty of unfilled divots, the bunkers needed attention and sand, but the greens were the biggest letdown. They were so slow and bumpy you could not get an accurate read. I mean seriously there were tons of anthills all over the place mixed in with the unfixed ballmarks. The sides I played said it would be 7,300 yds which surprised me because it's hard to find such a long public course. However, I found that those distances were inaccurate and much shorter than what the scorecard said. There was one par 3 i remember where the tees were at 180 yds out and the card said they should have been 210. I could understand if there was a tee box further back that was not in use, but there was nothing I could find. The new nine called meadows was all mixed up as far as the order of the holes. It probably took us 10 minutes to find the first tee. I played the course last year but it was during the drought so I blamed the bad conditions on that, but seeing the course this year made me realize they do not have the means to keep up with 27 holes. A huge disappointment. I could go on but if you choose to play here make sure you don't play the full price.

Early Player

Tee off at 6:30 AM . Two twosomes in front of us moving fast so we ( a twosome ) played with no delay and no one behind us. Was great experience, like a very private course, at a superb facility.

Beautiful course

The lay out of the course was really neat. We spoke to the pro and he said they have really been working on play condition and that the course was in the best shape in years. The staff was extremely friendly and our 18 included a brat, chips and a beer. The course was challenging but not because of poor design. It makes you take some difficult shots, but rewards good shots. Only negative was that play was slow.

Great layout, conditions aren't bad but could be better

Overall the layout of the original 18 (Lakeside/Woodlands) was very good, with some very interesting and challenging holes. Most holes are very fair, and while their is a few blind shots most of those are off the tee but not to the green. The 3rd hole on the Woodlands is difficult off the tee and you should drive out and take a look (big drop-off at 230 yds or so) before hitting. The finishing hole on both 9's are very good holes.

The course was pretty crowded and the pace of play was slow. The maintenance was ok, but could be better. The greens were a little hard and didn't hold very well, even with a ProV. Also, a wedding party walked out into the middle of the 18th fairway for pictures just as we were getting ready to tee off. A course employee came out and apparently told them to move. They walked off and then stood by the cart path, but still in possible range.

True championship layout

I have not played Shaker Run since the recent buyout but it remains one of the most challenging courses that remains public in this area. The rolling terrain and huge trees with the absence of any homesites make a round of golf most entertaining with this wonderful layout that is set on 250+ acres.

Bummer...........

I have always been a huge fan of this course and it used to be a banner day when I got to play Shaker Run. Now, the conditions of tee boxes, greens, and bunkers were disappointing to say the least. The greens were the worsth I have ever seen them. Furthermore, how can not have water coolers ANYWHERE on a 27 hole course on a 90 degree day? That alone shows the lack of attention to detail here.
Staff was very friendly, unfortunately you don't play the round in the pro shop.

This course is tuff with the rough grown high

I had an early tee time to beat the heat and there was a free breakfast buffet. The staff was ready to serve at 6:30am and the range was open for warm up. As for the course the rough was long which made it hard when you miss the fairway. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape and all but 1 green were in good shape.

Coming Around

You can definitely tell the difference with the new ownership. The staff was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy that we were there. Meadows still needs some work, but, is definitely in better shape.

We will definitely come back throughout the year to see how things are progressing with the new ownership.
