Meadows/Woodlands at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. 18 holes were designed by Arthur Hills while the remaining nine came from the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. All of the nines have different characteristics but they share a rolling landscape that is unusual for a golf course in Ohio. The Meadows nine is considered to be the gentlest of the three nines since it doesn't have the trees and water that the other two do, but it still provides a good challenge. The golf course has a memorable finishing hole with out-of-bounds along the entire right side leading to the double-tiered green.

great condition and value
excellent pace of play; greens were in good shape, but the ball makes were not being repaired. Overall condition was great.
Coming back
Its not the old shaker run yet but its showing signs of life. Greens are still a little bit sluggish in pace but are rolling smooth again. Fairways in nice shape. You can see they have been working on the bunkers, The two I played out of played well, others looked spotty. All in all it was well worth the $39 I paid to play. If they can get the greens back up to their old standards Shaker will be a must play again.
Great course
Overall the course was great and maintained well. The greens have bounced back from last year when they all nearly died out. They are still on the mend, there are lighter collared spots all over the greens that provide for some inconsistencies with putting.
The only issue I had was that the tere were no starters anywhere to regulate pace of play. I sat of about 15 minutes on no 10 waiting to tee off and it didn't look like teeing off was going to happen anytime soon. So I turned around and played the front again.
Terrible condition for a course with potential
I came to Shaker Run expecting to play a nice golf course. I'd give this course a 4/10 and but only because it has a great layout. Otherwise I'd give it a 3/10. They should have stuck with the original 18 because obviously the new nine is not as nice and they can't maintain any of that or the original course. The course has such a great layout but poor condition made it seem like I was on a below average public course. The fairways had plenty of unfilled divots, the bunkers needed attention and sand, but the greens were the biggest letdown. They were so slow and bumpy you could not get an accurate read. I mean seriously there were tons of anthills all over the place mixed in with the unfixed ballmarks. The sides I played said it would be 7,300 yds which surprised me because it's hard to find such a long public course. However, I found that those distances were inaccurate and much shorter than what the scorecard said. There was one par 3 i remember where the tees were at 180 yds out and the card said they should have been 210. I could understand if there was a tee box further back that was not in use, but there was nothing I could find. The new nine called meadows was all mixed up as far as the order of the holes. It probably took us 10 minutes to find the first tee. I played the course last year but it was during the drought so I blamed the bad conditions on that, but seeing the course this year made me realize they do not have the means to keep up with 27 holes. A huge disappointment. I could go on but if you choose to play here make sure you don't play the full price.
Early Player
Tee off at 6:30 AM . Two twosomes in front of us moving fast so we ( a twosome ) played with no delay and no one behind us. Was great experience, like a very private course, at a superb facility.
Beautiful course
The lay out of the course was really neat. We spoke to the pro and he said they have really been working on play condition and that the course was in the best shape in years. The staff was extremely friendly and our 18 included a brat, chips and a beer. The course was challenging but not because of poor design. It makes you take some difficult shots, but rewards good shots. Only negative was that play was slow.
Great layout, conditions aren't bad but could be better
Overall the layout of the original 18 (Lakeside/Woodlands) was very good, with some very interesting and challenging holes. Most holes are very fair, and while their is a few blind shots most of those are off the tee but not to the green. The 3rd hole on the Woodlands is difficult off the tee and you should drive out and take a look (big drop-off at 230 yds or so) before hitting. The finishing hole on both 9's are very good holes.
The course was pretty crowded and the pace of play was slow. The maintenance was ok, but could be better. The greens were a little hard and didn't hold very well, even with a ProV. Also, a wedding party walked out into the middle of the 18th fairway for pictures just as we were getting ready to tee off. A course employee came out and apparently told them to move. They walked off and then stood by the cart path, but still in possible range.
Great find!
First time playing and had a great time. Got out early for Father's day and staff was friendly and helpful. Play was longer than expected, but overall a great find and I will definitely be back.
True championship layout
I have not played Shaker Run since the recent buyout but it remains one of the most challenging courses that remains public in this area. The rolling terrain and huge trees with the absence of any homesites make a round of golf most entertaining with this wonderful layout that is set on 250+ acres.
Very nice course
Everything was great except we were rushed off the back nine due to an outting. Overall we were pleased with the course.
Bummer...........
I have always been a huge fan of this course and it used to be a banner day when I got to play Shaker Run. Now, the conditions of tee boxes, greens, and bunkers were disappointing to say the least. The greens were the worsth I have ever seen them. Furthermore, how can not have water coolers ANYWHERE on a 27 hole course on a 90 degree day? That alone shows the lack of attention to detail here.
Staff was very friendly, unfortunately you don't play the round in the pro shop.
This course is tuff with the rough grown high
I had an early tee time to beat the heat and there was a free breakfast buffet. The staff was ready to serve at 6:30am and the range was open for warm up. As for the course the rough was long which made it hard when you miss the fairway. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape and all but 1 green were in good shape.
Coming Around
You can definitely tell the difference with the new ownership. The staff was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy that we were there. Meadows still needs some work, but, is definitely in better shape.
We will definitely come back throughout the year to see how things are progressing with the new ownership.
Conditions were poor, especially the greens
Pace of play was horrible....we had to switch to an alternate 9 just to get done in less than 6 hours.....won't return....l
Making a comeback!
The course was offering a special of 18 holes for around $35 which included a hot dog, chips and drink. I had heard that the course had declined from it's past condition, but it looks as if it's on the way back. Greens need some work and the bunkers need maintained. I hope the management gets the course back to it's past shape!
I'll be back soon!
We had a great time, the course was in good shape. The course was mowed so that only a way off line shot was lost. The pace of play was way good for a Saturday. And pricing for my round was equal to other local courses I play moving it up on my frequency list.
great course, bad staff
I've played this course many times but I think this was my last. The course is great but we had an issue with a grounds crew member. A verbal dispute is one thing but being threatened with a shovel is another. The management said they would take care of the issue but I don't think anything was or will be done about it.
Course is very nice and played in a nature lovers venue.
I enjoy to play the course a couple times a year. Each hole has it's own unique difficulty factor. The pace of play seemed fine. We never seemed to wait to hit our shots and we never were pressed by the group behind. The best part of the course is that on the original 18, thare are no houses or roads, just out playing out in nature.
woodland 9
Holes 4 and 5 are truly remarkable. If you are not the best golfer big a new box of balls because you may neef them all. I think it may be the best 9 holes in ohio
The original Hills layout has a great flow to it. Very pleasing to the eye
The greens were not aerated until 5/19 due to a big tournament but that means that by 5/31 they were still relatively unplayable. Wondered if they sanded the greens after pulling big plugs, but heard from other players that the greens have been "so-so" the past couple of years. Too bad, the routing and variety of holes is an Arthur Hills gem. Rest of course was in pretty good condition.
