The 14th - a nice short par 3 with a tricky green. Photo submitted by GolferJake78 on 03/01/2019

Great Condition for a Municipal Course
This is the first time I had played here in a few years and the course was in great shape. Luckily we had an early tee time and got through in just under 4 hours, but looking back at other holes, there were quite a few back ups by the time we finished our round.
The course is pretty wide open so you're likely to find your ball on wild shots. It was a perfect course to test out anew driver that I wasn't totally comfortable with.
Overall, this course is a little expensive for a municipal course, but the conditions of the entire course (greens, tees, fairways, and rough) more than made up for the few extra dollars. I'll be back to play here for sure.
Good condition
The course was in good shape. As in most municipal course in the DC area, pace of play is rather slow as expected. I don't know if I'd pay $60 for a Friday afternoon round here but I got a great deal from golfnow.com..
Nice course for walking
Herndon Centennial is very well maintained, and a very nice place to walk. The terrain is mostly flat with slight rolling mounds and some slope to fairways. The tees have a broad range of distances so it's a fair test of golf. The greens, fairways, and tee boxs are in excellent condition.
Good course, great staff
The course is in great shape. Good lies in the fairway, and the greens are quick but not fast, and they roll true. It's not that long, but the greens have enough undulations to make a round very interesting.
You can shoot a good score here, even if your play is just average.
Great public course
Good course, with variety of hole lengths that allow you to play all clubs. Well maintained, except this time we played, the grass needed to be cut in all areas from rough to greens to tee boxes. Great value for the money.
Very Nice Course
Course in great shape as usual. For a Friday afternoon the pace was great, less than four hours for our foursome. The GolfNow price is great because the rates are going up every year at Herndon. I live in Herndon and very, very seldom play there on a weekend even though the rate is a bit cheaper for a town resident. It is a very nice course and GolfNow is the way to go if you want to play there. It would be nice if there were a few more times to choose from.
Very slow pace of play!
I've been playing this course a lot and it is usually in good condition. The problem is the pace of play! Last weekend it was a new all time low. After 16 wholes played and 5 hr 45 min later, I had to leave the course because of other commitments! We asked the pro-shop to send out marshalls on the course, but nothing happen in regards to the pace of play. Stay away from this course if you want to play under 5 hours!
good maintenance even off season.
It was good experience playing this course. Makes me come back and play again in season.
Good, honest golf
Your basic golf course that will be enjoyable for the average beginner to intermediate golfer. Highly skilled golfers may find it boring and without challenge. Laid back atmosphere and cordial staff. The pulled bbq pork sandwich is not to be missed. Very lean and generous serving size. Tasty! Many birdie holes on this course; good course for the ego. Clubhouse could use a bit more pizzazz, but good enough to grab a dog and a brew. Course condition decent for winter golf. No complaints.
Nice course, in very nice condition.
While not the most challenging course design, the conditions (for a muni) more than made up for it. Well maintained fairways and tightly cut greens are rare for a course in this price range (golfnow hot deal for $18). Pace of play was pretty speedy (Wed afternoon), a pleasant change.
This course was in good condition, but not very exciting.
First, let me say that it rained 6 inched the week before, so it was no surprise that it was cart path only the day that I played. The course was in good shape but the greens needed mowing because they were so slow!
The course is rather tame. Water comes into play on only 1 hole (unless you hit a really bad slice on #3). Elevation change is rather minor. There are trees to contend with, but not too many areas where you could lose your ball.
Overall, it was a great value for $18.
Pleasantly suprised
Played it on whim due to a hot deal from golf now. Glad I did, will definately revisit. Cant ask much more out of a muni.
Beautiful conditions and not to difficult
The course is in beautiful shape at this time of year. The fairways and greens were pristine, and the rough difficult. But the landing areas are forgiving and it makes for a very enjoyable day. Staff were great. It is municipal, so pace of play can get slowed down with beginners, but everyone gracious about allowing play-through.
Beautiful, open, forgiving, well-maintained course. Very good value.
This is a very manageable course for average players. Fairways are open, not heavily bunkered. It should not be necessary to bring a lot of extra balls. Very well maintained and very attractive. Service and amenities excellent. Overall, one of the nicest public courses in Northern Virginia.
Good value and fun to play.
Fairways and rough in fair to good condition. Greens in excellent condition. Played from the tips course is only 6,200 yards but is tight in places. On a fair number of holes you can only hit 220-250 yards off the tee due to doglegs and rough patterns. There is fair amount of elevation change on some holes which effects level of lie and club selection. On this day the course was wet and ball didn't roll much.
Solid Municipal Course - well maintained
Course is in pretty good shape, greens were solid probably a 7 out of 10. Not overly priced at around $50 for a weekday morning round. Will play here again. Good for players of my skill level - beginner/intermediate.
Great course
Challenging but playable course, it is in very good shape. Highly recommend if never played before. Has a very short set of tees for Seniors and the course is very walkable.
Decent course
Course was in decent shape considering amount of rain recently. Fairways and greens were fairly well maintained. Bunkers could use some work. Price still seems a little high for this level course.
Good Value for the area
I played this course with my father and needed something in good shape but under $80/round. This course had received decent reviews and the price was right so I picked Herndon.
The staff was very pleasant to deal with practice area was sufficient and well maintained. The starter kept the flow moving as well as possible and was very helpful. The course itself was in very good condition considering the wet summer we've had. The fairways were in great shape save 2. The rough was a reasonable length and tee boxes were acceptable, Where the course impressed was the condition of the greens, which happens to be the most important aspect of course conditions to me. Even though there were man many people golfing that day (which lead to a very slow round) he greens were not beat up and rolled true. There is enough variations in the greens and interesting hole placement to reward dart throwers or solid putters. The course is fairly short but throws in a few doglegs to keep bombers in check. This course will lend to lower score, but who doesn't enjoy that? Overall, I am glad to have taken my father there and we had a great time. (did I mention how good the food was?) I would definitely come back to this course especially considering the price is lower than surrounding courses in worse shape... Just be sure to bring some bug spray.
Amazing layout needing much needed TLC
We went in the golf shop, the gentleman was very cordial. He sent us right to the tee to check in and the starter got us right off. Problem is that the pace of play by the locals are extremely slow and tedious and really should learn to keep up with the group in front of them, repair ball marks, and rake the sand traps.
The course rough is very harsh and full of crab grass, the fairways have crabgrass growing on them and the greens need mowed.
The layout on the course is amazing and well place bunkering greens, and fairway contours are still effective today. It was such a shame that the conditions were deteriorated.
I'd recommend they use the money from the wealthy city of Herndon and reinvest into the course. They shoudl also consider having rangers that actually marshall the pace of play and not drive around looking for golf balls.
This place has amazing potential.
