Ladies Tee boxes!!
Green tee boxes (forward tees) were like concrete; otherwise not bad, a little dry and barren in places on the fairways. Nice course otherwise

Okay-ish for the money
Worth it when you get a hot deal otherwise go to Williamsburg for better courses with friendlier staff.

Nice Vibe
Good course and amenities but slow play. Saw 1 ranger who couldn’t open up speed of play. 2-3 groups on most holes.

Cardinal
Nice course, pretty good condition, was behind a group that was not in a hurry. Took 2.5 hrs to play the back 9. Too slow!! Think they had 2 open holes in front of them. Rolled up on tee before they left a couple of times, never offered to let us play through.
Best Bang for the Buck
This place is by far the best bang for your buck in the Hampton Roads area, the staff is great. The course is in great shape for being open to the public. The pace of play is pretty steady for the amount of activity on a day to day basis. I am a Kiln Creek resident but will always choose to spend my day off at Newport News Golf Course,

My first time on this course
Everything/everyone were great except a few green were in need of alot of work. Great experience tho.

Challenging
Course was a little wet in places; rough was very punitive/ 1 yd off the fairway - ball was down 3”. Not certain if it just wasn’t mowed because of wet or staffing , or if that was intended.
They need a combo green/white - as a long-ish hitter for a female, green tees are way too short; white front 9 okay (2700 yds), but white back nine is 3200 yds (too long). Need something around 5300 yds

Good round after a rain
NN Golf Course (Deer Run) has its challenges and is a nice course to play. The course was in good shape. The pace was a bit slow but we made it through in a little over 5 hours. If given the choice and with the TEE OFF rate I would play it again.

Unjustly scrutinized
Very packed today. We were paired with two other players who we didn’t know. Completely understandable based on the busyness. We allowed a twosome to play ahead of us but there was another twosome behind us. After the first hole that we allowed the twosome to play through, the twosome behind us complained to the Marshall that we were playing too slow and then he chastised us. Again, I understand the need to pick up the pace but that was done in poor taste.

Fairways were not in good condition. Many bare spots and potholes in middle of fairways. Pace of play was a little slow even for foursome.

I got nickel and dimed.
When I have to golf alone, I take the opportunity to go with my wife and just spend time together. I booked through GolfNow and prepaid for it when I booked the tee time. The cost to play plus cart was $24. When I got there, they charged me $15 just for her to ride. They told me that was the rule. When I said none of this was mentioned at the time of booking, they told me they had nothing to do with GolfNow, that I had to take it up with GolfNow, that it wasn’t their problem, and that that was the rule. First time in 25 years that this happens to me. I know the economy it tough but please don’t nickel and dime the customers.
