Barely worth $20.99!!!
Other than perfect greens, this course needs a lot of work!! The fairways are all incredibly hard with no consistent grass. They had a guy out there mowing the dirt uselessly!!! I enjoyed hitting 300 yd drives but it was impossible to stop a ball going at the greens. Someone needs to combine Stonehouse's fairways with Newport News' greens!! Oh wait, they did!! It's called ROYAL NEW KENT!!!

The course was dry and the tee ball ran a lot , which was good. Greens were in okay shape. Tee boxes needed a lot of work.

Cardinal Course OK but Nothing special
This course is undergoing repair. Conditions were very dry. It has an insufficient number of restrooms. No wonder only one or two middle aged women were playing! Staff were friendly enough. The people in front of us were playing so slowly that two other people behind us caught up to us and joined us. Very nice people. I usually play 18 in about 3 hours. This took 4 1/2 because of the slowness of play.

Something different
Had a good time playing this track.Staff inside clubhouse were friendly not so with the starter.
Never played here before and started on the back 9 for some reason.
The pace of play was good.4 hours to play 18 on a Saturday. Fairways and greens in good shape not so for the bunkers.They all need some work and some sand.
Didn't see a beverage cart all day which was strange but maybe because of Covid.
The back 9 is pretty open and a lot longer than the front which has some short par 4s.
Hole 8 is probably the best hole on Colonial, a good par 5 with trees and water coming into play.
Enjoyed playing here and would recommend to anyone in the area.

GREAT PLACE TO PLAY ! THE STAFF IS GREAT AND THE COURSE IS IN GOOD SHAPE EVEN AFTER RAIN FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE. OF COURSE A FEW SOFT SPOTS BUT THAT IS EXPECTED. HOME TOWN COURSE FOR ME HERE EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN KILN CREEK DEER RUN HANDS DOWN BEST BANG FOR BUCK

Post Aeration
The Newport News courses are normally fabulous, greens were pretty rough even for post Aeration. I prefer the old route, never like ending on a par 3

Sandy roughs
The course today was dry ... However the roughs were sandy and most of the tee boxes

Cheap Green Fee, Rough Conditions
Greens were in pretty good ahape, but there was hardly any grass on the fairways. Was in the fairway all day but couldn't get a good lie. The tee boxes were in pretty bad shape too. It's nice to have a cheap option, so considering what you pay, it's not bad, but this isn't the spot for a serious round of golf.
