South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Awful pace
We got to the 6th hole in 6 hours. After complaining to the Marshall absolutely nothing happened. Letting guys with 30 plus handicaps tee off from the blues should not be allowed. Who would ever join there if the average round takes 5 to 6 hours? Thank you, I will never play there again.
Course is in great condition
We had a 9am mid week tee time. Pace of play was great, we did not wait on any holes and we were not pushed. The course is in excellent condition. Very friendly staff and starter.
South Riding course is in great shape
I really enjoyed this course. The fairways and greens are in great condition.
Much Improved!!!
Wow, what a difference a year makes. I heard they hired a new superintendent. He must be great considering this place was a mess last year. Not now -- tees/fairways good, and GREENS in very good shape (firm, smooth, and pretty fast). Keeping them firmer certainly helps cut down on the ball marks (c'mon golfers, fix those ball marks!) ruining the roll -- something that had been a problem in prior years. This is northern VA, so it is pricey to play without some discount. No water on the course? Even the little 9-hole courses at least provide water . . .
1st Timers Need a Map
This course could be 4 stars. The little things keep it at 3 stars.
This course needs better signage for everything. We only found a few signs pointing to a few holes, "2/8". Everywhere else, you're left guessing which way to go. The course has some flow to it but there are many long cart path drives between holes because of under roadway crossings. THEN, when you find the tee, there is a small wood post with mailbox numbers. The 12 hole was missing the 2? Somebody needs to care just a little fix these types of things.
For the cost of admission and for sake of first timers, please please please, add hole information signs at the tee boxes and signage along the cart paths to point golfers in the right direction.
I don't know much about how golf courses are maintained but when we played Monday morning, almost every hole had a lawn mower or a leaf blower or multiple lawn mowers. Maybe it was just bad luck. One of the fairway mowers came within about 10 feet of my playing partner as she was at her ball.
The mowing team needed to be out earlier than Monday morning because the rough was 4"-5" thick on some holes (first few holes at least). Almost impossible to find your ball or hit reasonable shots when in the rough.
On a final note, course is difficult but fair. The greens are fantastic (a little inconsistent in speed throughout the round). I would return to this course and probably wouldn't be as lost on the 2nd time.
