Needs upkeep
Obvious lack of money to maintain a good layout. Bunkers are overgrown and unplayable - they haven’t seen a rake in months. Greens have been punched and are very bumpy. Grass needs to be cut around greens.
The Hornet course is in better shape than Tomcat but that’s not saying much.
They would be better off trying to mss as I rain one 18 instead of having two poor courses.
Great Day @ Oceana
Im a Navy Veteran and love to play military course..People are friendlier and food and drink s cheaper..Go Navy
Incredible Views
Beautiful Course, well maintained and reliable. Other than walkers not allowing me to play through, this is and awesome course.
Horrible bunkers
Bunkers are in horrible shape. I think they were harder than the cart path. A few of them had what looked like black mold growing in them.
Good practice course
Super easy layout, in fact I shot my career low. The course is pretty much thrashed. Many greens had large dirt patches. However, for an afternoon of just practicing your game on the cheap, it can't be beat. I will play again.
first time playing tomcat
my first time on tomcat was good. the greens were in great shape and the tee boxes were also in great shape. my playing partner and i enjoyed ourselves eventhough we only played nine holes
This course was not the best.
The greens were not taken care of. Fairway was very rough as well, there were bare/dead spots all over. Ball cleaners didn't have water or cleaning solution in them. Did not see the beer cart for 18 holes. Staff was very friendly though and it is a nice course layout.
Drainage needed
The Tomcat course at Aero Pines on Naval Air Station Oceana is the original course that I have been playing for over 30 years. Even though they rebuilt the course about 5 years ago, the Tomcat has drainage problems. I waited for two days after a significant rain storm and the greenside bunkers still had a lot of water in them and hard sand. The fairways need a lot of attention due to bare spots. The greens were in good shape and the course played well unless you got in a bunker and had to drop just to play.
