Vandals broke into my car and three others. Course manager blamed us for leaving valuables in car. Do NOT play here. Photo submitted by bkrsaun on 08/11/2013
Golfer Reviews
Great course
Fairway lies exceptional, tight turf.
Greens recently sanded (small punch??, couldn't tell) 8/26/26. Coming back soon, they should be exceptional
Had a backup issue that was quickly resolved by the starter Alice.
Great course at a great price
RW is not an overly difficult course but a nice course to play nonetheless. Most greens are flat but in some cases hard to read. I would give the course a 96 out of 100 in terms of condition. Watch No. 18! It can bite you….
Nice Thursday at Red Wing
Signed up as a single and was scheduled to play with 2 others but they teed off early which then put me behind a 4 some. Starter had talked to them to let me play through which they did and which definitely improved the time of my round. Had to follow a 2 some which held me up some but finished in less than 3.5 hours. Course was in very good shape. Tees and greens were a bit shaggy, but that is typical of public courses here. All staff were friendly, professional and accommodating. Recommended.
Very nice course
Course is great value for the money. Not perfect, but just right for nice round of golf. Carts are nice, greens are on slower side. Overall everyone was friendly and helpful.
Red Wing Lake
Overall, it’s a nice municipal course. The greens were really slow but in good condition. The bunkers were not very good, minimal sand in a lot of areas and full of water, possibly from heavy rain?
Great experience
Beautiful course, friendly staff, and pace of play was amazing — especially for a Sunday. Highly recommend Red Wing Lake.
Extremely Rude ProShop Manager
Extremely disappointing experience and poor customer service from management.
I called the pro shop ahead of time on Tuesday before booking through GolfNow because I wanted to confirm one specific thing: my wife and I were booking a two-person tee time for Friday at 11:10, and we wanted to bring our two daughters as ride-alongs. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and told me that would be fine and that he would put a note on the reservation. He also explained that the reduced 9-hole rate was not available until after noon, which I understood, and I told him I was fine paying the full rate even though we only planned to play 9 holes.
When we arrived Friday, the manager at the pro shop said we were somehow booked twice for the same tee time and tried to charge me $65.30 for an extra cart. I showed him my GolfNow receipt proving I only booked one two-person reservation. It appears the pro shop may have accidentally entered a second reservation after my phone call, but instead of trying to understand or fix the issue, the manager treated it like it was my fault.
When I questioned the $65 cart charge, especially since we only needed it so our daughters could ride along and we only planned to play 9 holes, he was rude, dismissive, and made a sarcastic comment about “my other country club” when I explained what I normally pay for an extra cart elsewhere. He eventually said he would “meet me in the middle” at $30, which only made the situation feel even more arbitrary.
The most frustrating part was being told that because I booked a Hot Deal through GolfNow, I would not get my money back and could either pay or lose the reservation. Thankfully, I had purchased trip insurance and was able to get refunded on the spot. I left instead of giving this course my business.
I understand policies. I understand cart shortages. What I do not understand is being told one thing ahead of time, showing up early with my family, then being treated rudely over what appears to have been the course’s internal booking mistake. The way this was handled was unprofessional and completely ruined what was supposed to be a simple family golf outing. I will not be returning.
Extremely unprofessional Pro Shop Manager
Here’s a strong 1-star review that sounds frustrated but still credible and factual:

Greens in Great Shape and FAST
I always enjoy playing at Red Wing Lake Golf.
Saturday was perfect conditions and the greens were in great shape. It was just difficult to keep our approach shots on the green and putting was difficult because of the speed.
Grounds hard, grass or conditions were good.
The grounds keeper or management need to treat the grass throughout the course.
