About
Nestled in the heart of Virginia Beach, Honey Bee Golf Club is one of the area's most popular daily-fee golfing venues. Rees Jones designed the course, incorporating water on 10 holes as well as intricate bunkering throughout. The challenging layout has several tricky doglegs and some treacherous blind shots as well. It's a golf course that demands careful course management and some strategic thinking. Accurate shot placement is also key when maneuvering the rolling fairways and contoured greens. While it's by no means an easy golf course, it is an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels, making it a popular venue for tournaments and corporate outings. For golfers looking to get an entire day of golf in, Honey Bee's sister club, Stumpy Lake, is only about half a mile away.

Golfer Reviews
Honey Bee Review!
I would not recommend this course until they fix the greens. Most of the putting surfaces are dirt. Almost unplayable. I should’ve requested a refund.
Greens were not playable with disease or dead grass.
Greens were not playable with disease or dead grass. Fairways were better. Traps were not maintained. Definitely better deals around
Greens were black and dead that’s all that needs to be said
Course used to be premier
I went here in May, course condition was excellent the only thing that needed work were the green side bunkers. Now, the course is in complete disrepair and all the greens are destroyed. I understand maybe charging 25$ for the condition that it was in but premium pricing on that condition was not equal to a 60$ round of golf. I love that course but it’s falling apart.
Greens deatroyed
No starter, greens terrible. Not worth $15! Very rundown course to include fairways!
Bad for the money
Absolutely terrible greens where gone nothing but mud course in real bad shape must be letting it go
Friendly atmosphere, but the course conditions don't justify the $70 price tag.
I want to give credit where it’s due: the staff here are great. From the clubhouse to the bar crew, everyone is welcoming, and the facilities like the restrooms are clean and well-kept. Unfortunately, the actual golf course conditions tell a completely different story.
The greens right now are simply atrocious—several of them have deteriorated into literal patches of mud. At nearly $70 for an 18-hole round, charging these rates for greens in this state feels unreasonable. Honey Bee is currently one of the most expensive municipal/local courses in the area, yet almost every cheaper alternative nearby maintains significantly better course conditions.
On top of that, the long-standing drainage issues continue to be ignored. The sand traps turn into unplayable, undrained swamps, and the fairways hold water for days. I’ve played a full week after just light rainfall and still encountered massive, soggy mud pits in the middle of fairways. It’s become a well-known running joke among local golfers, but it’s frustrating that management seems to have no interest in fixing it.
Bottom Line: Great staff, but until management invests in proper drainage and greens maintenance, save your money and play elsewhere in the area.
Terrible conditions and grains were a disgrace
I played yesterday at Honey Bee. All of the Koreans were burned out or destroyed. They even moved one flag to the fairway short of the green. The place does not drain well and was virtually underwater. There was no staff around. Nobody was overly helpful. I'm very surprised by the reviews that I had read. Probably my last time there.
terrible greens
worst greens I have ever played, hardly any grass at all. fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. they need to go to bermuda greens
bad greens
The fairways and tee boxes were great. The greens left a lot to be desired. I would say the greens only had about 20-40% grass, the rest was dirt. They need to go to bermuda greens as these were bent and horrible, should not have had to pay full price considering the condition of the greens.
Terrible Shape.
The condition of the course is terrible. The greens are the worst i have ever seen them and i have lived next to this course since it was built. I know that the course has been sold and they are planning to build houses on it so that is why i believe they are not maintaining it.
Extremely disappointed in conditions
Course conditions were extremely bad as far as greens go ahead two or three temporary greens set up because of how bad the originals had become and by rights they should have had six or eight of them set up as temporaries cuz they were that bad there was no drink card it just really was a very poor conditions you can go to kempsville and get much better course conditions with carts that have GPS for less money much better deal same way with stumpy and even Chesapeake
Unplayable conditions
If I could give zero stars I would! 0/18 greens were unplayable with 2 temp greens. The sand traps unplayable. No posted signs about the greens conditions. The staff in the pro shop were rude and not friendly. I won’t be returning.
Terrible course conditions
Been golfing here for years. Fairways were decent most greens looked resident evil themed. Cracked and dry with divot marks everywhere. Unacceptable with still paying full price for this course.
Course has potential
Course has potential of being a nice facility but the greens were dead and the bunkers were over grown with grass and half gravel.
Course has potential to be nice.
This course has potential to be a nice facility but the greens were awful and bunkers were gravel and weeds. The tee boxes and fairways were nice and it was a good course layout, but the greens were in awful condition.
