Honey Bee Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of Virginia Beach, Honey Bee Golf Club is one of the area's most popular daily-fee golfing venues. Rees Jones designed the course, incorporating water on 10 holes as well as intricate bunkering throughout. The challenging layout has several tricky doglegs and some treacherous blind shots as well. It's a golf course that demands careful course management and some strategic thinking. Accurate shot placement is also key when maneuvering the rolling fairways and contoured greens. While it's by no means an easy golf course, it is an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels, making it a popular venue for tournaments and corporate outings. For golfers looking to get an entire day of golf in, Honey Bee's sister club, Stumpy Lake, is only about half a mile away.

Extremely disappointed in conditions
Course conditions were extremely bad as far as greens go ahead two or three temporary greens set up because of how bad the originals had become and by rights they should have had six or eight of them set up as temporaries cuz they were that bad there was no drink card it just really was a very poor conditions you can go to kempsville and get much better course conditions with carts that have GPS for less money much better deal same way with stumpy and even Chesapeake
Unplayable conditions
If I could give zero stars I would! 0/18 greens were unplayable with 2 temp greens. The sand traps unplayable. No posted signs about the greens conditions. The staff in the pro shop were rude and not friendly. I won’t be returning.
Terrible course conditions
Been golfing here for years. Fairways were decent most greens looked resident evil themed. Cracked and dry with divot marks everywhere. Unacceptable with still paying full price for this course.
Course has potential
Course has potential of being a nice facility but the greens were dead and the bunkers were over grown with grass and half gravel.
Course has potential to be nice.
This course has potential to be a nice facility but the greens were awful and bunkers were gravel and weeds. The tee boxes and fairways were nice and it was a good course layout, but the greens were in awful condition.
Greens unplayable
I understand in the summer you can lose the greens but this was unbelievable. The fact that they charged $65 for this round and there was ZERO mention of course conditions in the pro shop is crazy. You will find better value at literally any other course in VB. Honestly course has a great layout but is completely unplayable.
Pathetic Course
I really think I ought to get a refund not so much for the money ! The greens were so bad pathetic really more patches ( areas) without grass , the sand traps were horrendous solid as rock where there was no water . Sweltering heat no water to drink no cart inhuman third world conditions would be an understatement ! Pleaaaaase take honey bee off the options ! I rally think you should refund my green fees

Greens Unplayable
Honestly this course has an amazing layout but it’s is insanely overpriced for conditions. Greens were unplayable on most holes, bunkers filled with water and rocks. I get that you could lose the greens during a hot summer but to still charge $65 for a round in these conditions is crazy.
Very poor conditions
We’ve played this course before and it was always in good condition. This time was the total opposite. The greens were very spotty with many brown areas. There were ducks swimming in the fairways. The sand traps were full of water. Not a good experience. I wish I had known beforehand.
Need serous work
The greens are in terrible shape… the front nine was under water
course was in great condition. greens were awful. lots of grass missing and just hard ground. price is way too high for the greens bad condition. cant get a accurate putt with the greens that bad. too late and hot now to get the greens in playing condition.
Greens are mostly cracked and half dirt/half grass. It was a 95° day and there was no water available while on the course. Also, their scorecards have the pin placement on them, but they did not stay consistent throughout the course. If you are going to include pin placement numbers, they should remain the same throughout 18. Very bad conditions all around for the price of 18 holes. Definitely will not be coming back for a long time.
Greens are unplayable as of summer 2026
This is a decent course that unfortunately is in terrible shape. The greens are bare in wide swaths and you'll be putting through it on nearly every hole. I'm not sure what the intent of the maintenance crew is, but I would wait before playing this course again until things are growing again on the greens.
Also, on a 100 degree day, there were only 2 water coolers on the entire course. They did have a beverage cart but that didn't come around until the 6th hole. This made the round even more unbearable as I was becoming extremely dehydrated and overheated.
Overall I didn't get my money's worth at Honey Bee. Stick to the other municipal courses that aren't nearly as bad and charge about $15 less.
Terrible Conditions-Don’t waste your time or money.
A Jones course that is a great layout but it does not live up to the name due to terrible course conditions. The greens were mostly dead with a majority of the surface having no grass and mud.
The bunkers were poorly maintained and not playable.
Greens
Out of 18 greens maybe 4 of them were in decent shape.
Sad greens
I have played this course numerous times in the past, but not this year. This was the first round of the year and I was so disappointed. The tee boxes and fairways are in good shape. Bunkers were so-so, but the greens - terrible. Not sure what has happened to them but they are covered in bare spots. In a big way. So bad we couldn’t read the greens.
I’m sure they will solve the problems but it’s going to take some time. I hope they do soon because I truly enjoy the Bee Hive…
Greens Need A Lot of Work
The course was in excellent condition except for the greens which need a lot of work. There were a lot of brown areas on the greens and the greens badly maintained.
