Located just 20 minutes south of Tacoma, Eagles Pride Golf Course in Fort Lewis is one of the area's best golfing values. Originally opened as the 18-hole Fort Lewis Golf Course in 1940, it soon became known as one of the best military courses in the country but it's also open to the public. Another nine was added to the layout in 1979. The three nines, known as the Red, Blue, and Green, are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Red/Blue Course is the original layout. The classic design is player friendly but at the same time challenging with an abundance of trees lining the fairways and greens as well as tricky elevation changes that make it tough to find a flat lie. Each hole offers plenty of variety.

Previously known as Red/Blue at Fort Lewis Golf Course.

Good course

It’s a good course with lots of hills. Course in great shape right now. Have played here countless times over the years and the pro shop attendant is one of the rudest I have dealt with in the Puget Sound area. He’s been there for a long time and seems to think he owns the course and acts like people are trying to rip off the company. That aside, it’s a fun 18 holes with a decent pace most days.

Disappointed

My fee I paid for through GolfNow was not only the green fees but also a golf cart included. However when I was checking in I was told no golf carts available as they all reserved for a golf scramble. So I had to purchase a push cart instead. If I knew I had to walk, I would have never booked a reservation at this golf course. The other gentlemen were also not happy with not getting their golf carts as well. Some how GolfNow needs to let us know that golf carts are not available through the deals GolfNow advertises. To make matters worst, new players were allowed to tee off when we were making the turn.

Challenging yet enjoyable

This course really exposes windy days. You'll want to low flight your Tee Offs, perhaps stepping down to 2i drives, and clubbing up when attacking the greens from a typical distance. At 150yrds out, a 6i was needed vs the assumed 7i.

Otherwise, well groomed. Average green speeds. And no thatch left in the fairways. Some Tee Boxes are full of hard sand, so some plastic tees may be too weak to insert after a few drives.

This course plays long from the White tees given the undulations/hills - so a cart may be great for those whom are not seasoned walkers!

Excellent Conditions

Conveniently located next to I-5, Eagles Pride is an old style course with tall fir trees lining every fairway, a collection of interesting holes with mostly large sloped (not very fast) greens and a single fairway bunker.

The course is surprisingly well watered. There are few if any brown spots anywhere on the course, which you probably can't say about a single public course in Washington state right now. In fact, one approach shot actually plugged in a green. Conditions were more what you would expect in May than during a dry July.

The restaurant is only open from 11 to 3 five days a week. The food was good, but the menu is limited to burgers and hot dogs, with bottled beverages.

They do not have enough golf carts for the day because they reserve all the carts for a competition. I had to walk with a push carts on one of the hottest day of the year for a 70's old man.
