The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Links
About
The Golf Club at Hawk's Prairie offers two 18-hole courses, the Links and the Woodlands. Located just a few miles north of Olympia in Lacey, Washington, the club is one of the best golf values in the South Sound. The Links Course joined the original 18 holes in 1999, providing a stark contrast to the aptly named Woodlands Course. The classic Scottish-links design features open fairways and undulating greens. The layout sprawls north towards the mouth of the Puget Sound. There are some rolling hills but the course is still a nice walk, especially with the views of Mount Rainier along the way. You'll encounter numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout and water hazards come into play on half of the holes. It's a challenging but fair golf course with five sets of tees making it playable for all skill levels.

Greens a little bumpy, but great value and great course.
Greens a little bumpy, but great value and great course.
Nice course and great value at Golfnow prices.
Nice course in good shape and fun to play. Too bad they are building so many houses on the course.
Sand - Heavy Rough - Stay in the Fairways!
We had a beautiful day on the course for the 1st of November in WA. No rain, but some big wind on a few holes. We will be back. Greens were about 75% back from being plugged and sanded but we putted well considering. There are several holes where if you hit off the fairways you have lost your ball. On the 1st hole I hit a shot that bounced to the right of the green just into the heavy grass and saw right where it went in, but yet it was impossible to find. Shoot straight, watch the sand traps, and lay up a few times and you will have a good score. Overall we had a good experience and hope to play here again if we get more good weather. We live about 70 miles away and it is nice to find a course that I can ad to my list to play again.
Friendly staff.
My first time at this course. Pro shop staff was informative. Starter gave some course description. Very helpful. The greens were very difficult to read. Made it challenging.
Good course, horible staff member.
itial warning from marshal to speed up play (1 min behind pace) was I quote " you guys are clearly behind pace. If you don't pick it up I'm going to have to ask you to leave". I don't know about everyone else but sometimes you have a bad hole which slows down pace a little bit. We went on to maintain a 10min lead on pace and was apologized to by several staff members but the encounter was such a bad, unprofessional experience that I doubt I will play this course again.
good, but...
Some dry spots, hardpan and needed maintenance on tee boxes (Links course), but overall a fair challenge for an above average golfer.
For the money the course is real nice
4.5 hour round, a little slow for my taste but on time by the clocks.
Excellent Course!
This course is well maintained, the staff is always helpful and friendly, and I play here as often as possible. Highly recommended!
Links-style course - bring an accurate driver and you'll have a great time!
Nice course. Greens were perfect; mowed to only about 9-10 on the stimpmeter, which cuts down on the ridiculous putting. Easy course to walk with short distances between holes and not much for sharp elevation changes. Lots of sand traps throughout the 18 holes, but the vast majority have short lips for easy outs. The tee boxes were in good shape; only a few could use some leveling attention. Fairways were generous with primary and secondary cuts of rough. Miss all of that, and your ball is LOST (3 foot tall fescue, water hazards, housing developments, public streets, you name it). My favorite part was the number of drivers you could hit (especially from the blue tees). Many long par 4's with big landing areas means players with the long, accurate drive can tear this place apart. Hot driver = fun day. Bad driver = a dozen lost balls. I'm taking off a star for the course not having any feeling of being surrounded by nature - no tranquility,... and the 4 balls I lost ;-)
Fun times for all.
Met some locals and had a great time . Pace of play was just fine being that it was a Sunday. Greens were good as usual, which is why I travel 40 mins to play there. Give them a call and make a tee time - " While Your Young " :)- .
Super Staff
Hats off to the entire staff, Pro Shop to Course Management. What a day!
the course played well overall the course was very nice with few delays
I have played Hawks Prairie before this is a very nice links course I do however advised to not take for granite the open space in which the course plays; it is challenging and you can lose a few strokes and play outside your handicap.
Great Course with friendly, helpful staff.
Welcomed on arrival and staff was great and helpful. Course is beautiful with water and bunkers on many holes. Well maintained and clearly marked throughout...
a pleasant course
I have always enjoyed the Links course. Love the view from #14. But I find the ever-encroaching housing projects distressing. The home builds have become the course's prominent feature.
A top rated course
From the moment you come into the pro shop you get a feel of a highly rated course, with the display of clothes and equipment
in an orderly fashion. The staff was very cordial and receptive to customers. The course is one of the best in Washington. The greens well manicured and a very challenging course. A must golf experience for all golfers.
Really??
I can't believe that for two Saturdays in a row in late may the course was empty. We tee off around 7 or so and the course is in amazing shape and the greens are flawless.
Get out here while the course is n perfect shape and make it happen!!!
My home course, always fun to play.
You won't be disappointed by either the Links or
the Woodlands at Hawks Prairie. Relaxing and beautiful
views. Hoping your drives are straight and true...
nics sand in bunckers
wasent bizy very windy light rain need to hit the ball strait the greens very nice i liked
Open and well maintained
This is a great course to play when you're working on your game. It is open with nicely wide fairways that allow for slight mishits. Rough is not at all punishing. Fortunately I can't comment on the the condition of the traps. Greens were very receptive, but not soft, and rolled true.
Beautiful course and setting.
Several long, long par 4's and 5's. Tough greens and the entire golf course is in great shape. It's been really wet this month but you'd never know it by the condition they keep it in. Will be back soon.
