The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Links
About
The Golf Club at Hawk's Prairie offers two 18-hole courses, the Links and the Woodlands. Located just a few miles north of Olympia in Lacey, Washington, the club is one of the best golf values in the South Sound. The Links Course joined the original 18 holes in 1999, providing a stark contrast to the aptly named Woodlands Course. The classic Scottish-links design features open fairways and undulating greens. The layout sprawls north towards the mouth of the Puget Sound. There are some rolling hills but the course is still a nice walk, especially with the views of Mount Rainier along the way. You'll encounter numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout and water hazards come into play on half of the holes. It's a challenging but fair golf course with five sets of tees making it playable for all skill levels.

nice course
we had a fivesome in front of us and we had to wait on almost every hole. the weather was nice so made it liveable. It took us 4.5 hours to finiish, should have been less than 4. Overall, it was nice and the course was in good shape.
Great course great condition slow play
Great course, great condition. The only complaint is the slow people in front of me
Enjoyable
We played on a Monday and played both courses. Pace of play wasn't an issue. It was my first time playing the Links course and it was pleasing to the eye. It was still pretty wet and muddy and the greens were punched about 2 weeks ago. The course still needs some time to recover and dry out, but there's definitely some picturesque looks and I still enjoyed myself despite the conditions. I don't really have a favorite out of the two courses, but Woodlands is playing better right now. Water hazards come into play on several holes on the Links course, but is still very playable for all skill levels. I would definitely like to play this course again when the greens recover more and the fairways dry out. All and all Hawks Praire is a pretty sweet place and I'll be returning.
Major issue with pace of play
They need to seriously work on pace of play !!! 6-7 groups backed up waiting on every hold cause if 1 group and nothing done about it
More water hazards than I imagined
First few holes have lateral hazards along with water hazards throughout course. Use golf GPS software on your phone to select right club for hazard layout. Course isn't too long, so proper club selection is suggested or go for it with your driver. Had a decent deal thru golfnow including cart. Golfed on a Friday, but better deals were found during the other weekdays. Only inconvenience was location of range balls (in front of restaurant), was expecting to find dispenser next to range. Had a meal after round and the food was excellent along with superb staff.
Hawks Prarie
Nice course but was very wet. Had a lot of standing water
Nice Course, even in Winter
Very Playable course with a nice variety of holes with varying lengths and dog legs. Very Enjoyable.
Winter course
We played as our first round of 2015, so expected winter conditions, and played lift clean and place due to moisture on the course.
Greens were in great shape and course played well in the winter.
great time
the greens were in great shape. the fairways had some soft spots but this is normal for this time of year. played shorter then the yardage on the card. very well maintained and I had a good walk and a very good time. I recommend this to all for a good golf experience, great views and kind of quiet.
First Time, But Won't Be The Last!
My buddy and I were loking for a fairly dry course after a week of rain, and this one was on several lists. Since it is located close to home, it seemed a no-brainer to give it a try. We were glad we did!
Course is well-maintained, even in the late Fall; greens are especially nice. Even after close to a month since my last round, my score was very decent. Even though this was our first go-round, the holes play pretty intuitively, with no sneaky IEDs for the new guys. While the thick rough swallowed golf balls like an Orca gobbles salmon, all it took was tromping around the general area for a few minutes to feel 'em underfoot...plus 5 or 6 more from previous players. It's a good walking course, with few hills. The on-course restrooms are nice, and protected by door codes which you get when signing in.
The pro-shop staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful; there's lots of quality merchandise in the shop, at decent prices. Didn't get a chance to try the food service.
I will definitely be playing The Links at Hawks Prairie a lot more next summer!
Great Round
I've only played 3 other courses and am pretty new to golf. I would say this is the most beautiful course I have played in the Olympia area. Iv'e played Tumwater, Capitol City, and Eagle's Pride. This is by far the best of the four.
Poor Condition of Course
I have played this course probably 100 times during the last 15 years and have never seen this course in this bad of shape. The fairways hadn't been mowed for quite some time and none of the tee box's were maintained as well. The greens were in decent shape but extremely slow and long. I will not play here again until the course is in much better shape, quite a few better bargains just north of this course.
Great layout. Not worth the money
They need to change the name as it is not a track through a housing development not an "old growth forest". I really love the layout, interesting, challenging, fun. The course conditioning is pretty bad - worse than the local muni. Same price as the Home Course, but not the same quality. I obviously was disappointed.
Great Weekend Course
The Links had a tournament scheduled for the afternoon, but scheduled us to go out and enjoy the course prior. The pro shop was great - friendly, informative, and helpful. Lots of water and bunkers, but the course layout is great - very pretty course.
Links at Hawks Prarie
Course is fair to both golfers of moderate ability and challenging to more experienced golfers.
Slowwwww
Corse is to slow on pace of play And conditions are drying out.
review
Had I get round, always enjoyed playin this course.
Links
I really like the course. The fairways were a bit rough. But overall a good one.
Need a Ranger
Although the staff was very friendly and helpful to start our round and
I enjoyed the course itself I was very disappointed in pace of play. We were sent out as a twosome with a twosome in front of us and behind us. After 3 holes we joined up with the two behind us and then proceeded to wait on every shot the rest of the day. At no time did we see a ranger and the round took us over 5 & 1/2 hours. Groups behind us drove through and left. I will not play here again.
Nice
It's been a lot of years since I last played and the area has developed a lot since then. tees=B fairways=C rough=C greens=B sand =C
