Opened in 1931, Brookdale Golf Course has a classic design that has hosted generations of local golfers. The course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways lined with old-growth firs. The player-friendly layout is ideal for beginners with wide, open fairways and generous landing areas, but there are still challenges in store on the greens, which are bordered by thick rough and strategically placed bunkers. There are several interesting holes with downhill approaches to the green. It may not be what you're looking for if you want a truly formidable test, but Brookdale is a fun and forgiving golf course where high handicappers can build their confidence. Located just 20 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the most affordable rounds in the area.

Afternoon play
If you can play this course in the afternoon the flow is great and the course is in great shape.
Rude staff
I took my dad here as a late Father's Day present and the staff was extremely rude. First, I was gong to walk but my dad paid for 2 riders in a cart so I went to put my push cart back in my car and was scolded by the guy in the pro shop even though we still had 20 minutes till our tee time.
Second, a group was on the tee box on 1 at our tee time and hit, no big deal, but then we were scolded again since we were just a 2some and shouldn't have let their 5some go ahead of us. How is that our fault? Sounds like they should've stopped them beforehand over the loudspeaker.
We were held up by the groups ahead of us (2-5somes) and they came out twice and told US to play faster or they would make us leave. Pretty disappointing from a less than decent course. Who do they think they are, Chambers Bay? I ended up shooting an 84 and my dad shot a 90. I would only recommend this course to my buddies that shoot in the 70's. That's obviously who they think should play there.
Nice local course.
Challenging but reasonable for your everyday duffer like me.
Good value. Solid track.
Good value and a good test of golf for all abilities.
Classic Course
Brookdale is a classic PNW course...several dog legs and a few blind shots off the tee and into the green. It was the first time I played the course and was paired with 2 other GOLFNOW members who were familiar with the course, which was helpful. Pro Shop Staff were great. Had to use different clubs off of the tee boxes...driver, hybrid and iron with the dog legs...it made you think about your landing area in regards to your next shot. Easy to walk...not much distance between green and next tee box or much elevation changes...No driving range...but nice putting and chipping area...enjoyed it!!!
Muni-course feel; Good greens.
With sparse tree-lining of each fairway, its definitely more of a wide open feel than i prefer. Pace of play was fine 3 or 4 times i played late winter/ early spring, but saw enough guys in jeans & workboots to wonder about it when it gets busier. Just speculating - and probably being a little snobby! Many of the holes are pretty straight-forward. If you hit your ball straight every time, you may easily be looking at par almost every time, but thats the fun, self-challenging part, isn't it? There are some blind tee shots and some where you have to know where to place your tee shot for an optimum second, a few where you can cut a corner, and just enough quirky elevation change to keep it interesting. Love the par 3's. 3 are around the same distance (i think 140 to 160), but all very different. One very easy and level, one with a seriously elevated green, and one more tree-narrowed with a wickedly sloped green. The 4th plays over 240 yards! Not usually what i want to see after a long string of bogeys, but love the challenge! Aside from the "muni-feel", my only criticism would be the lack of a range. There is room for one, off the side of 18, for an 'irons only' range. Not sure why they don't use it as such. On Golfnow, there's always a hotdeal around noon, walking. Totally worth it, just leave the wranglers at home & please repair your ball-marks on the greens - they were pretty nice when i was there in March...
Brookdale 2nd time around
Staff was friednly both in proshop and restaurant area. Pace of play was excellent. Finished 18 in about 3 hours. Conditions were pretty good. Still a few wet spots but overall very good. Look forward to playing here again.
Review
It sucks , the course was a mess . The directions takes you to the maintenance building on the other side of the course away from the clubhouse the people there seem uninterested in helping the new to the park golfers , the amenities are scarce at best and they don't seem to care as far as I could tell. The layout of the course , and I'm quoting the regulars there is pathetic. But they have "GOOD burgers there"
Great round...good times
It was a fun round...course was dry...but green. Ball off the tee would roll for a good amount of times. Greens where fast but fair...
Great value
The course has enough good holes to keep your interest. Greens are in good condition. Hole #2 had a temporary green.
Great staff & had fun
I think they should offer carts with the golf now. Coupons more often other than that I had a good experience
Average course. Hot dog at the turn was like warm, no Marshall on the course.
Nothing special here. Average course, average conditions. Pace of play was 4 hours 35 minutes. Never saw a marshall to keep slower groups moving. Greens were average to above average.
Locals flock to Brookdale
Friendly course with little rough unless your way offline. Mixture of sand, water, trees to toughen course. Didn't like the temporary greens. Weather was near perfect. Today was packed ; but, the pace moved right along. They cut out a lot of the brush which made the experience better. Good shape considering the rain we had this year. Come later in the year and expect the course to be in top shape. See you there.
Great condition
Brookdale Golf Club is in very good condition considering the weather lately. Always a good value!
Nice day
Rainy season but hit it right, course was damp. One temp green due to high water.
Overall course in good shape, greens were great.
