Opened in 1931, Brookdale Golf Course has a classic design that has hosted generations of local golfers. The course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways lined with old-growth firs. The player-friendly layout is ideal for beginners with wide, open fairways and generous landing areas, but there are still challenges in store on the greens, which are bordered by thick rough and strategically placed bunkers. There are several interesting holes with downhill approaches to the green. It may not be what you're looking for if you want a truly formidable test, but Brookdale is a fun and forgiving golf course where high handicappers can build their confidence. Located just 20 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the most affordable rounds in the area.

Fun course

Great little gem. Course was in great shape and the staff was. Pace of play was a little slow due to the men's group but still much faster than most. Third time playing it and have always met some fun players. Most slower groups were kind enough to let us play thru. The course marshals do a good job.

Course was in great shape

I have been playing Brookdale for years, but it had been a couple years since I played. I thought the course was in excellent shape and the pace of play was appropriate for the weather and how busy it was we finished our round at exactly four hours.

Great for beginners

This course is just 10 minutes from my home. My wife is looking at joining the women's club here so she asked me to go play the course with her first. There was a bit of confusion on the young man in the club house and getting everyone off at the appointed tee times. Seems the couple we were suppose to play with went out earlier and we were waiting for him to call us to the tee box. It was us golfers who managed to figure out who was going off next not the club house. The course is a fairly easy course, pretty much straight forward not allot of surprises. The greens were still just a bit sandy but not enough to effect the putting that much, they rolled out real nice. I would imagine they will be pretty good in another week or two. Nice upgraded electric carts not that we needed one as this course is very walk-able. We ordered a ham sandwich at the turn with fries. The food was just average but still good enough to fill the void in my stomach. As far as clothing i would like to see them at least make guys wear a shirt with sleeves. Allot of tank tops and muscle shirts. Personally i think this downgrades a golf course and all it stands for.
If you have to use the bathrooms be careful, there was no toilet paper in the men's room I had to go ask for some. They also could really use some remodeling in the bathrooms to clean them up. It is just plain old and nasty. Makes me wonder about the kitchen now? I doubt I will be going back anytime again soon.
I haven't golfed this course in over a year because of some of the items I mentioned above. There is much cleaner and nicer courses for the money within 15-20 minutes from this one.

Great time on an old school course

Brookdale is like stepping back a few decades with the old restaurant and pro shop. That is not to say they are bad, just from another era. The wait staff and golf pro were all very friendly. The course was in very good condition and the newly sanded greens rolled very well. I played as a single and hit a couple of balls on most holes and finished in 3 1/4 hrs. Every time I play Brookdale I remember why I love it. Oh, make sure to check out the big wood throne behind the 6th tee box!

Reliable Brookdale

I had a very fun round. I chose this course because it was my first round of the year and I knew this is a very forgiving golf course. You are pretty much able to get a clear second shot at the green even if you spray your tee shot left or right.

Enjoyable

Brookdale has been around since 1931, so it has that old world charm. The course is not overly difficult, but it has some nice looks. I thought it played pretty well for being the first part of March, the fairways had some bounce and roll and the greens were in nice shape. There was however two temp greens the day I played, but it didn't take away from my overall experience. The course doesn't have many bunkers, but the bunkers they do have, the sand looked nice and playable. The course is suitable for all skill levels.
