About
The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway sprawls across rolling hills blanketed with towering Douglas firs. Located just 30 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the area's hidden gems, offering not only a beautiful natural setting but also a challenging round. The layout features elevated greens, tree-lined fairways, and ponds and wetlands that come into play on several holes. The greens are the most challenging element of the golf course. Some are small, which is tough enough to maneuver as it is, and most are framed by mounding. Sand bunkers also provide contrast against the smooth and fast-rolling greens. The Classic is a challenging course but still playable for all skill levels.

Last time playing here
Pace of play was horrendous! Played the first 9 in 2 hours and then got caught behind a 4 some of older guys who took 45 minutes to play 2 holes. Was so frustrated I walked off the course. Will never return to the Classic. Wouldn’t be suprised if it’s closed within a few years!!!
Slow play, used to be a fun course
The “no carts after 4:30” rule sucks. No field marshal to speed up the play, we played through one group that was terribly slow, the next group had 6 people playing. You got all the wrong rules in play
Great greens
The green were in really good shape and were fast. They rolled true on every hole.
Excellent Course
The fairways across the entire course were nearly perfect. Each shot from the fairway felt like hitting off a perfect lie. One spot was ground under repair, and clearly marked. The rough was varying heights, like rough should be. The rough was thin enough to easily find your ball and play out of. Even the knee high grass was playable. The layout was mostly straight holes with a few doglegs. Tight fairways on most of the holes - not a driver every hole kind of course. Lots of hills, green side bunkers were a mix of sand and grass bunkers. The sand bunkers were pretty poor condition honestly, but it had rained that morning. The greens were immaculate. They are receptive to approach shots and check realllly well for chips. Putting on them was like putting on a pool table. They were so fast and had some really challenging lines. Overall, the nicest course I’ve played in the greater Seattle area yet. Worth the money, and should honestly be more expensive.
Bunkers!
You gotta have sand in the bunkers guarding the green!
I know it's been a wet week, we can deal with wet sand, but, dirt/hardpan is not fair...these greens Rock Tho!

Greens
The greens were punched and so sandy… The staff didn’t mention they when I checked in.
Airification alert not listed on golf now
Airification alert was not listed on the Golf Now listing. I booked and paid my tee time on 10/7/25, didn’t know the Classic had punched and sanded all the greens on 10/7/25 until I got to the golf course. I played but was very disappointed.
Blown away
This course is absolutely stunning. Picturesque fairway shots and challenging approach shots to get on the greens. The maintenance is top tier was truly blown away with this course looking forward to playing another 18 here soon.
Great Course
The staff is always welcoming and friendly. The course is challenging and has character for all levels of golfers. The greens impress with their condition and roll true. The pace of play seems to be decent for a public course. Give it a try,
