Classic Golf Club

About
The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway sprawls across rolling hills blanketed with towering Douglas firs. Located just 30 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the area's hidden gems, offering not only a beautiful natural setting but also a challenging round. The layout features elevated greens, tree-lined fairways, and ponds and wetlands that come into play on several holes. The greens are the most challenging element of the golf course. Some are small, which is tough enough to maneuver as it is, and most are framed by mounding. Sand bunkers also provide contrast against the smooth and fast-rolling greens. The Classic is a challenging course but still playable for all skill levels.

Airification alert not listed on golf now
Airification alert was not listed on the Golf Now listing. I booked and paid my tee time on 10/7/25, didn’t know the Classic had punched and sanded all the greens on 10/7/25 until I got to the golf course. I played but was very disappointed.
Blown away
This course is absolutely stunning. Picturesque fairway shots and challenging approach shots to get on the greens. The maintenance is top tier was truly blown away with this course looking forward to playing another 18 here soon.
Great Course
The staff is always welcoming and friendly. The course is challenging and has character for all levels of golfers. The greens impress with their condition and roll true. The pace of play seems to be decent for a public course. Give it a try,
Good Greens
Greens were nice today, they were fast and decently maintained. That has not always been the case. The bunkers were extremely rocky - to the point our group won't hit out of them.
The Classic took full advantage of other local courses closing down and jacked up their prices while not improving the course AT ALL. In fact they removed the driving range in favor of a few houses. The price is not equivalent to the course or maintenance. I like the course because its nearby, but otherwise i'd prefer most all other courses in the area.
The amount they charge for a membership is also insane for what you get at the course. Golf elsewhere.
Love this place
I have been a member t the Classic now for going on 6 months. The greens are always in great shape, and the grounds staff do a good job keeping everything else really nice. The staff at the pro shop are very friendly and helpful. Always willing to give a newbie like me helpful advice. I really cannot emphasize enough just how friendly and helpful the staff is. The course is challenging and engaging which my wife and i really enjoy. We have yet to get bored with the course if that is even possible.
I do hope that someday the driving range will be completed and possibly the club house will be rebuilt.

Classic round
Course was a bit burnt out with a lot of hard pan spots but the layout is good. Pro shop could do a better job of pairing groups. We let two groups of two and a single play through that could have easily been paired together.
Not at all what it used to be
Sad to see a once “classic” fall into such disrepair. Three things are left that are good: The greens , the staff and the layout. Most of the course is baked out, the traps that haven’t been let grow into grass bunkers have minimal sand and are not well maintained. Not many clean lies even in the fairway. The 18th hole and driving range are gone, replaced with a short par 4 and a net. The carts are loud and slow and not cheap to rent. The green fees are on the lower end so I guess the owners can come back with “what do you expect for 36 dollars(senior?) So if you are looking for a course with nice greens and a decent layout that’s inexpensive, then I guess this is the course for you. It won’t be for me.
The layout is bad. The 18rh is an after thought hole.Houses are tight...trail from 18th is dusty and rough...low value.
It’s close enough that it’s worth it
Course was good the cart paths are choppy at best kinda narrow but greens are decent. Clubhouse and drink cart are pretty bare bones, had trouble keeping the drinks cold. I live 5 min away so it’s not a bad thing but definitely not a destination course.
Hot Trash
A played this course for my first and last time.
The course was packed with 2-somes and 4-somes and took 5+ hours to play 18. There was a “marshall” on the course, but he was completely useless for managing the pace of play. The trashes were full and trash was all over around the tee box. I was too scared to attempt a bathroom break based on the poor management of everything else.
Find somewhere else to play and avoid this course!
The Classic Golf Club – Spanaway’s Hidden Gem
Nestled among towering evergreens in Spanaway, Washington, The Classic Golf Club remains one of the Puget Sound region’s best-kept secrets. While many nearby courses have recently raised their rates significantly, The Classic continues to offer affordable pricing without sacrificing the quality golfers expect from a premier course.
Unlike other courses that charge more and deliver less, The Classic maintains excellent green conditions and top-tier course maintenance year-round. Lush fairways, fast greens, and a peaceful natural setting make every round feel like a getaway. It’s a course that rewards precision and strategy while still being enjoyable for players of all skill levels.
Golfers from Tacoma, Puyallup, and Lakewood regularly choose The Classic over higher-priced alternatives like Chambers Bay and The Home Course—not just for the savings, but because the value is unmatched.
Whether you’re looking for a casual weekend round, a weekday escape, or a solid practice session, The Classic Golf Club continues to deliver a premium experience at a fair price. In a time when others are charging more and giving less, The Classic remains true to the game.
Interesting layout that tries too hard to be difficult.
This could be a fun layout with elevation changes, rolling hills and contoured greens. But unfortunately when we played it was underwater and we could only complete 9 holes due to the rain and unplayable conditions. But I was struck by the strategic overuse of trees that detracted from the experience. Why should trees dictate every shot on an otherwise great property, rather than allowing the natural terrain to allow for some imaginative shot making instead you're forced to focus on trees in play on most shots.
