Oakbrook Golf Club
About
Located less than an hour from Seattle in Lakewood, Oakbrook Golf Club is one of the area's hidden gems. Opened in 1966 as a private club, the course opened its doors to the public in 2012. The course is known for its smooth, firm, and fast greens. The 6,700-yard layout plays both narrow and long but it is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. With hundreds of mature oak trees scattered throughout the course, accuracy is key. It's a course that rewards strategy rather than raw skill. One of Oakbrook Golf Club's toughest holes is the par-4 seventh, which you'll have to play from below since it's sloped steeply from top to bottom. The downhill shots and doglegs will put golfers of any skill level to the test.

Do not go at this time
This is a fine golf course that is currently being logged. We were only able to play seven holes. Many hundreds of trees now cut down and the course will be a mess for a long time.
Course was average, restaraunt was lacking
The course was prepping for the spring and summer months so it wasn't ideal conditions. It is well maintained, just that time of year.
The restaurant completely got my order wrong while I was on the turn to the back 9. I did not have time to wait for new sandwich, and it did not taste good. That was disappointing.
First Time
Inexpensive deal at formerly private club combined with balmy Feb. weather made for a good outing. There were 3 temp greens on the front side which is always disappointing but understandable this time of year. Greens were smooth but a little soft and slow to recover from soft spike marks. Bunkers in excellent shape and their design really enhances the look of each hole. Fairways good, restrooms and amenities worth mentioning. Lots of trees are marked for removal as seems to be happening at the Classic. Snack bar and restaurant did not seem to be open on a Sunday afternoon, so bring snacks.
Watch out for the bunkers
The greens were in spotty shape at best. forget the bunkers or better yet forget any sand in them. Be prepared to skull bunker shots across the green. Look all nice and pretty until you end up in them. Very thin veneer of sand. They are planning on bringing down about 450 trees located on the course. The trees coming down have been marked.
Lovely course, easy to walk, challenging holes
Oakbrook is sheltered in a lovely housing area. It is peaceful, lovely, and a challenging course. It is maintained to very high standards - the turf is not mushy and the greens are well manicured. Excellent golfing experience!
Worst staff
Booked through GolfNow, great deal. Staff at front desk (KJ) is pretty rude to us (GolfNow customers). Refused to locate our tee times from his computer screen. Didn't allow our two groups to go out together even though there are 3-4 openings in between tee times. We play about 75 to 100 rounds a year and had never seen unfriendly staff like this person.
Nice course
Seems like a nice course. It was a little wet as this is the Northwest and it had rained the past couple days. Overall the fairways and greens were in good shape. Did get stuck behind a 5 some of women the entire back 9 which slowed things.
Great winter course!
The course was in excellent condition for this time of year, January. The holes are fair and well thought out. The bunkers were well maintained with excellent sand. The greens putted true and were challenging.
Good times
All was 5 stars. I did not eat or drink anything so i cant rate that aspect.
High handicapper had a great time
Pretty narrow fairways and plenty of sand bunkers made this a challenge for this high handicapper. Well-kept roughs were a benefit to finding my ball when I did not hit as straight as I would have liked. Conditions of the fairways and greens were very good, especially considering the time of year (January). The course is a little out of the way, which I liked because it was quiet and relaxing. My only complaint is the holes are not numbered and there is no map on the scorecard so it is a little confusing as to where the next hole is. Luckily I had a partner who has played there several times and knew the layout. I only had a beer in the bar so I can't comment on the food.
Daniel Lee
I was enjoyed from Golf now for discount rate.
Thanks.
Pretty cramped and nothing that makes it stand out
If you enjoy narrow fairways splitting housing developments with a club who carries themselves like a wannabe private track, this place is for you. Not friendly staff (except in the restaurant, they were great), cart path only, slow greens, and slow pace of play. Anytime I don't like a course I give it one more try a couple months later, but it did not live up to expectations.
Frozen
Ground was still frozen, and had to use temp. greens, but overall, this is a great course. Being a high-handicapper, I found this to be the most forgiving of the 3 RMG courses in the area. Given the weather conditions, the place was fairly deserted so cannot comment on usual pace of play. Did not have lunch there either. Definitely plan to return in the near future.
Well-draining course
This course isn't the easiest to find, so make sure you have good directions or your GPS with you. Oakwood has been around a while, but this was the first time I've played it; it seems and feels like an older course with the big trees and older homes lining the course. Even though it was a private course, it now feels like a decent public course. With all the rain we've been having lately, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Oakwood was a well-draining course with only a few soggy spots. The sand bunkers were rock hard however and could use some fluffing up so that they could be playable. The greens were decent, but golfers need to do a better job of fixing their ball marks. The round took about 5 hours to play, partly because there was a 5-some ahead of us (we were a 2-some), and even though those 5 women played quickly, they were slowed down by two women ahead of them who were very slow. The GolfNow listing included the range balls icon, but be advised that it didn't print out on the tee time reservation so I didn't get range balls at the course as I expected; guess I should have also printed out the listing with the icons showing. At the range the mats were thin and worn; they could use new range mats. The range balls were relatively new. At the turn my partner wanted to get a hot dog, but there was no hot food at the turn, so he had to settle for a granola bar, so bring your own sandwiches with you is my recommendation. The course design was decent, but not as nice as I expected for a formerly private course. Overall, at the GolfNow Hot Deal price I thought it was a really good value and well-worth playing in these winter conditions. I'll definitely give it another try.
Improved Over the "Old Oakbrook"!
I haven't played Oakbrook for about 15 years, when it was a private country club, although my Rotary club met in the dining room until a few years ago. First impressions: Feels like a neighborhood golf course, with lots of regulars. Check-in at the pro shop was quick and easy. Driving range and practice green is located in close proximity to the first tee, with plenty of stations.
The course is as narrow as I remembered, rewarding straight drives, though a consistent draw plays pretty well. Fairways were well-maintained, (very reasonable rough) as were the greens. Bunkers were cement-hard, but after 2 weeks of consistent rain, that was to be expected. Pace of play was very steady, and my group was never delayed for more than a minute at most. RMG has provided an excellent value, revitalizing Oakbrook into a course worth playing on a regular basis!
Like a private course.
You should definitely play Oakbrook.
Be sure to take your receipt with you, if you book online.
Be sure you have driving directions/navigation before heading there. It is very difficult to find, but well worth it once you do.
Worst Golf Experience Ever
Worse run Course I have ever seen. They tried to put me behind three (3) groups of fivesomes. The twosome they tried to pair me with insisted on playing by themselves and the Courses answer to that was to put me as a single between the fivesomes and the twosome. Asked for my money back, which they refused. Was seriously considering joining this club and this was a trial at it, very happy I didn't join. Ryan Moore should check on how his courses are being managed.
nice track
Nice track that's easily walkable. Glad I got a good deal from Golf Now. Full price green fees are not as competitive with other courses in the area.
Pack A Lunch
It is always very sad when a course appears to care more about making money than providing a service. The condictions were great for a fun day of golf but they packed the course so we had to wait on every hole.
