Oakbrook Golf Club
About
Located less than an hour from Seattle in Lakewood, Oakbrook Golf Club is one of the area's hidden gems. Opened in 1966 as a private club, the course opened its doors to the public in 2012. The course is known for its smooth, firm, and fast greens. The 6,700-yard layout plays both narrow and long but it is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. With hundreds of mature oak trees scattered throughout the course, accuracy is key. It's a course that rewards strategy rather than raw skill. One of Oakbrook Golf Club's toughest holes is the par-4 seventh, which you'll have to play from below since it's sloped steeply from top to bottom. The downhill shots and doglegs will put golfers of any skill level to the test.

Course not in good condition
This course is NOT in good condition right now. Several of the greens are pitted due to the grass not growing well on them. The rough is mostly dirt and wood chips currently due to a major tree removal project. The sand traps are rocky and do not have a good base of sand.
Rnavvet
Although considerable brush from cutting trees is apparent, the fairways and most of the greens are in good condition. This is a good course, and the overall condition will improve after the cleanup is completed. We would recommend this course to anyone who has never had the pleasure of playing Oakbrook.
Tree work - beware
We were told by a staff member halfway through our round that 450 trees had been dropped in the past month. There were hundreds of brush and limb piles scattered throughout the course. We should have been advised prior to making the tee time that the course conditions were so poor. Very disappointed.
Right now not worth playing at any price.
Don't waste your time or your money at RMG Oakbrook. The logging operation is only one of the issues with the bad playing conditions. Greens at this time are shot all are heavily sanded with some playing as temps while others are covered with plastic except a small area with the flag position. Sand traps have rocky areas covered over with a very thin layer of sand and the rocks are large enough to ruin your clubs. Sad to see a great course in this condition. Hopefully the course will rebound but will take some time and alot of work.
oakbrook is not a golf course, it is a logging operation.
I played Oakbrook last year and it was in phenomenal condition, but I went back and they have cut down hundreds of trees and the course should not be open. There is chopped up tree debris along every fairway and some greens. I have never experienced a course doing such a major tree removal operation while still remaining opened. Oakbrook does not mention the major tree removal operation when booking a tee time on golfnow. I will not play this course for a long time.
Golfnow hooked me up!!
This was my first time playing the course so I'm trying to review the course as if there was no logging debris. The main reason I even golfed the course was because golfnow.com had a "hot buy" and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. They need to update the mats on the range with some reworking on the yardage posts, I had no idea how far any of the posts were. They had a great sign that said colors designating yardage but no colors out on the landing zones. If you play during the logging times be prepared to lose some golf balls. The edges are so full of tree limbs that if you're 10-15 yards of the fairway either side you'll most likely lose your ball. Looking forward to coming back AFTER the logging is finished BUT they have A LOT of work to do cleaning the course up.
construction hazard
Overall seems like a good course. I only played there because of the deal on this website I would not pay full price for this course. They have been removing trees and much of the fairways are tracked up by heavy machinery, much worse than sand traps when your in them.
Future Greatness
This is a great golf track. It must have been premier 30 years ago as the homes surrounding it are aging but there is new construction going on too.
The problem currently is that the course was recently logged of several hundred trees. Its a real mess at present. Plus the greens were freshly punched.
I'll be back but not until they are finished with the renovations. Next, I hope they'll bring the club house into the 21st century next.
Do not go at this time
This is a fine golf course that is currently being logged. We were only able to play seven holes. Many hundreds of trees now cut down and the course will be a mess for a long time.
Course was average, restaraunt was lacking
The course was prepping for the spring and summer months so it wasn't ideal conditions. It is well maintained, just that time of year.
The restaurant completely got my order wrong while I was on the turn to the back 9. I did not have time to wait for new sandwich, and it did not taste good. That was disappointing.
First Time
Inexpensive deal at formerly private club combined with balmy Feb. weather made for a good outing. There were 3 temp greens on the front side which is always disappointing but understandable this time of year. Greens were smooth but a little soft and slow to recover from soft spike marks. Bunkers in excellent shape and their design really enhances the look of each hole. Fairways good, restrooms and amenities worth mentioning. Lots of trees are marked for removal as seems to be happening at the Classic. Snack bar and restaurant did not seem to be open on a Sunday afternoon, so bring snacks.
Watch out for the bunkers
The greens were in spotty shape at best. forget the bunkers or better yet forget any sand in them. Be prepared to skull bunker shots across the green. Look all nice and pretty until you end up in them. Very thin veneer of sand. They are planning on bringing down about 450 trees located on the course. The trees coming down have been marked.
Lovely course, easy to walk, challenging holes
Oakbrook is sheltered in a lovely housing area. It is peaceful, lovely, and a challenging course. It is maintained to very high standards - the turf is not mushy and the greens are well manicured. Excellent golfing experience!
Worst staff
Booked through GolfNow, great deal. Staff at front desk (KJ) is pretty rude to us (GolfNow customers). Refused to locate our tee times from his computer screen. Didn't allow our two groups to go out together even though there are 3-4 openings in between tee times. We play about 75 to 100 rounds a year and had never seen unfriendly staff like this person.
Nice course
Seems like a nice course. It was a little wet as this is the Northwest and it had rained the past couple days. Overall the fairways and greens were in good shape. Did get stuck behind a 5 some of women the entire back 9 which slowed things.
Great winter course!
The course was in excellent condition for this time of year, January. The holes are fair and well thought out. The bunkers were well maintained with excellent sand. The greens putted true and were challenging.
Good times
All was 5 stars. I did not eat or drink anything so i cant rate that aspect.
High handicapper had a great time
Pretty narrow fairways and plenty of sand bunkers made this a challenge for this high handicapper. Well-kept roughs were a benefit to finding my ball when I did not hit as straight as I would have liked. Conditions of the fairways and greens were very good, especially considering the time of year (January). The course is a little out of the way, which I liked because it was quiet and relaxing. My only complaint is the holes are not numbered and there is no map on the scorecard so it is a little confusing as to where the next hole is. Luckily I had a partner who has played there several times and knew the layout. I only had a beer in the bar so I can't comment on the food.
