Muddy greens
The greens were in terrible condition. They were very muddy and diseased. The pace of play was on the slow side due to the lack of rangers on the course moving play along. The staff was nice and the food wasn’t too bad.
Broken
For the price it doesnt meet local standards. Far way better courses for the price in the area.
Fairways were very nice, in great shape. Rough was tough but that's what it if for. Greens had lots of bare spots.
Greens Midday Maintenance... smh
Had a 2:30 tee time
Not sure why a greens keeper has to stand on t he middle of a green to water them in the middle of the day. But that is what happened to my foursome on a par 3.
We asked the greens keeper why could he not move to the side while we teed off. He responded he was just doing his job. I have been to many of golf courses and seen the same job be done from the side of the green. We then had an unfriendly exchange, where the cost of our round of golf was compared to the value of the green, we were laughed at by the greens keeper. The greens keeper called the pro shop and the worker in the pro shop came out and had the greens keeper move to another green. The pro shop worker appologized and said the greens keeper will stay out of our way the rest of the day. I understand the greens have to get some water in the day, but watering to saturation should be done in mornings and/or evenings like all the other country clubs do. If one guy can't get it done before the afternoon, maybe the couse needs more greens keepers, Gardens are nice to water during the day; golf couses are nice to play golf during the day... BTW as soon as our round was over, it started raining. SMH#check the weather
Excellent
Just a great place to play golf , the greens are on perfect condition & the staff is very friendly !
Great Course, Terrible Staff
enjoyed the course very much until i got screamed off the course at the 13th hole by the pro shop attendant because he thought we booked 9 holes when we in fact booked a full 18 but he just charged us wrong. not my fault but i had to face the consequences for it.
Brutal pace of play
Pace of play was really rough, a 3 hour round turned into 5. Need to put more distance between tee times
Short Traditional Golf Course
I live within a 40 minute drive for 25 years and I just played this course for the first time. I was missing out on a great old style layout. It’s a William Gordon design who worked under Flynn in his early years and it has a lot of Flynn like design qualities The course was finished in 1960. It is short at just under 6200 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 70.
The first couple of holes have blind tee shots as do a few others on the course so local knowledge on club selection and targeting is very important. It is also very tight and places with many mature trees lining the fairways. The trees are well maintained and are cut up and back so they will penalize a stray tee shot but it’s easy to get back in play. Take your medicine and move on. The tees, fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Bunkers are in good shape, a bit inconsistent but no big deal. Kudos to the Superintendent and his staff. I imagine as a municipal golf course, they do not have a large budget.
There a spots on the course that have that muny feel like the 6th hole that runs a long a driving range with plastic dividers separating the stalls but it also has trimmed hedges separating the stalls. There are also spots on the course where you feel like you are at a philly mainline country club. It is that diverse. The signature hole is the par 3 14th which plays 220 yards from the back tee. You are hitting to a slightly elevated green from the tee but it’s over a Ravine to a well bunkered undulating green. Make a par here and you’ve done well.
All in all, a great golf experience. I highly recommend this old gem.
