The shape of the course
Bensalem CC is really in good shape. The greens are running true and the fairways are good for the most part. Just don’t hit it in the rough. If you do find it, you can’t get it out. Nice course for the golf now deal I bought
Good Course
Par 70 course which plays a little longer than the length suggests. There are only 2 par 5s.
Have been playing this course often.
Chilly to start, had two in front of me, nobody behind, had a nice quiet day finished the round in just about 3 hours 15 minutes
January round
It had warmed up into the 40's/low50's for a few days, the snow had melted but the ground was very mushy/muddy and was to be expected. Cart path only was expected also - still finished the round in just under 3 1/2 hours playing by myself. A couple of the temporary flag poles were literally frozen into the cups but wasn't a problem.
Some of the best greens I have ever played on in 20+ years of playing. Great layout as well.
Way too slow
Get about 12-13 holes in and I give up the pace of play stinks at this course. Seriously need to fix it, last 8 times I’ve played here I average 14 holes played. Just not worth the money. Rather spend $20 more and finish 18.
2nd time in a month
Still in good shape, round finished in just under 4 hours, was paired with an 85 year old and we had a good time.
2nd time in a month
Amazing the condition of the course seeing as it is the end of the season, greens were fast, nice day playing - about 4 hours for the round.
Great day
Windy, first chill of fall, hadn't played here in 5/6 years, in pretty good shape for the end of the season, friendly people.
Goofy layout front nine........PERFECT GREENS
The Good:
- GREENS ARE PERFECT ( as in the greenskeeper should get a raise or an award! How this public course greens can be nice is ridiculously good!!!)
The Bad;
- Goofy front nice design
- Don''t be off the fairway AT ALL.......the rough was US OPEN length. Consider it a lost ball or hunt for it, horrendous lies, unfair really.
Would do again
Course was in excellent condition and putts ran true.
Enjoyed the round!
Blast from the past
Bensalem was the first course I ever played (20 years ago) and I've been looking for an opportunity to play it again. GolfNow had a Hot Deal for $28.50 so I grabbed it. My buddy had never played the course but had his first holy communion there so it was nostalgic for both of us. We had the third tee time and got paired up with another twosome. That got a little strange when they told us one of them had to get to work and asked us if we would mind if they played ahead and that they would skip a hole or two so the guy could get to work on time. We were fine with it but thought it was strange when they didn't skip any holes and we had to wait at the box and in the fairway a number of time for them. Not a big deal at all but thought it odd there wasn't a ranger on the course all day. It in no way took away from our enjoyment of the round.
The course was in excellent shape except for the traps. It had rained quite often and hard the day before so the traps were packed pretty tight and a few of them hadn't been raked by whomever had been in them last. That was pretty much the only drawback; the fairways were perfect, the rough a very nice length--challenging but not punitive-and the greens were mostly awesome. I say mostly because a few of them have some burn but it didn't really come into play. They are very varied in size, pretty fast (even with the rain the day before) and had lots of ridges and character. They were in no way easy but (even though I'm the epitome of mediocre) I enjoy challenging greens.
Its not a long course (good for me) but I think any level golfer would find enough challenges to enjoy their round. The par 3's were challenging and varied and there are some downhill holes and quite a few uphill from the tee box.
I didn't remember much from my round 20 years before and, even though I didn't expect the course to be bad in any way, we were extremely happy with the round. I'd say it's on par with but a bit nicer than other courses in the area like Melrose, Westwood (in NJ) and Rock Manor (in DE). Even at the regular price I'd say its an excellent value. II highly recommend you give the course a try if you haven't played it.
