Waikoloa Village Golf Club
About
Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, Waikola Village Golf Club has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider Waikola Village Golf Club one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Mediocre
First time playing this course. I secured a hot deal so it wasn’t too bad but paying full course it’s not worth it. The course has decent views and the layout is OK. The golf carts don’t have any GPS but there are rough yardages on the fairways. My biggest complaint is similar to others. The bunkers aren’t sand but rather tiny rocks and pebbles. And the pebbles end of all over the green which makes the putting surface uneven. It’s an OK course but not a course I’d play again
Waikoloa golf paradise
The course is in beautiful shape. Usually a little windy but our few outings were lovely . Course getting a little more expensive but still a little under resort golf rates . We love playing here
Lorch
Beautiful views. Used to be reasonably priced but no longer . Pace of play was too slow . Resort golf puts you with strangers
Nice, generous fairways
Fairways were great, the rough was tough to get out of. The sand traps are gravel (apparently due to the wind), and there are lots of them! We had so much fun, we decided to play 2 days in a row.
Just a lot of fun
Have played the course many times. Staff are wonderful, pleasant pace of play and course was in nice condition, especially the greens. And given the current state of green fees on the Island, great value.
Slow Play
My wife have been playing this course for 25 years on vacation. The prices have gone way up since last year. Even the twilight rates are extremely high. Not the great value it has been for the past 25 years.
We teed off at 1:30 and were hoping to play just the 2 of us as we like to play fast; 2-3 hours. However, we were told we had to play with another couple. They were beginners!!
It was the SLOWEST ROUND Of GOLF we’ve played in 20 years! Got done at dark!
Missed Happy Hour at Tommy Bahama’s.
I’m sure many of the golfers behind us did not finish either.
Your course will play much faster if you leave groups at 2 people. If you get beginners who don’t want to pick up after 10 shots, then the next group can play through.
Bunkers
Only downside was the bunkers, gravel instead of sand. Damaged sand wedge surface.
Reasonable resort course
Good layout, generous fairways, good greens, tougher than average rough with many tee box options make this a nice course for a mixed ability group. Not overly long even from the Blue tees. Pace of play was OK but not fast.
