Had Fun
Nice layout; lots of doglegs. Course in good condition, not great but lots of fun and much better than many others played this year. Will definitely be back despite a one hour drive to course. Outstanding staff in clubhouse.
Great Potential, But….
This course has a great layout and design but it suffers from serious neglect and lack of maintenance. The sand bunkers were in very bad shape. Unless they clean up this course I would not recommend it.
Previously harsh
I played this course on the 15th. Reviewed it on the 17th. Believing the $22 tee-off.com deal was good, I decided to play it again. I stand by my previous review with one exception. I criticized the bunkers as totally unplayable & left to rot. I may have been overly critical. This round I actually ended up in a few bunkers. And I took a good look at most of them. Some (not all) were playable. But just barely. Some sand, but not much. Still a mess. And still Ocala Nationals biggest issue. But the course is still worth playing for the right $$price. I'll be going back.
Perplexing
I moved to Ocala about 1 year ago. I always wanted to play, but sceptable due to the negative reviews & reputation. I finally decided to take up the hot deal ($22 total) and play it. Boy, was I surprised 😮. After a few holes, it was apparent that this course had one of the best layouts of any course open to the public in the Ocala area. The conditions other than the bunkers was decent. Not excellent or pristine, but ok 👌. Now, about the bunkers. Terrible! Horrible! Every bunker, totally unplayable & left to rot. I wasn't in any of them. But, I would have dropped outside & played the situation as ground under repair. As is, I wouldn't pay more than $30 to play this course. If the bunkers were playable, that number would be in the range of 40 - $45. Fix the bunkers & return the turf makeup to consistant all Bermuda Clean / spruce it up; this easily could be the best public course in Ocala. Candler Hills & Juliet Falls charge $80 & up. This course could easily be better than Candler for sure. It's a shame. One can tell, this used to be a prominent top - tier golf course. When given the chance at the right price; I'll most definitely will return.
Nice Greens
This course would be really nice if they cut grass on the entire course not just the greens. Also the bunkers could use a lot of help. Other than that had fun with great weather.
Needs work but very playable
Roughs are long which they readily admit. Bunkers are in poor shape. If you keep it in the fairway it’s a very playable course. A lot of elevated greens so course plays longer than you think. Would definitely play here again. The only problem we had was we caught up to a fivesome that wouldn’t let us play through so we waited a long time between shots.
Fairways & Rough Freshly Mowed
The course is in fair condition. The bunkers are not in good shape overrun with weeds but the fairways were decent. Although the rough was freshly mowed it was still very long which made it difficult to find your ball. The tee boxes were fair. The greens were slow but in good condition. My twosome made it around in 3.5 hours teeing off at 11AM but it would have been quicker if it wasn’t so difficult to find balls in the rough.
Peaceful, lotta tough holes
Greens in great shape. Bunkers and their surroundings need some work, lotta tough lies. Lotta elevated greens, most holes it's imperative that you hit green upon approach. Course is a good challenge.
Mowers broken?
Fairways and rough were hard to discern. There was no primary cut.
Sub Par
Course is in bad shape , rough hasn’t been cut in weeks, greens have weeds, tee boxes overgrown. No water on course for players. Several ball washers empty and broken as well as broken hole markers. This course needs some major maintenance and improvements for me to play again. Definitely doesn’t look like what is advertised online. Will not play this course again and would not recommend.
This course has a great layout, the problem is their not making money, and can't afford to do the minimum to maintain this course. The fairways are terrible, they don't even look like fairways.
I don't know how these guys stay in business, and that's the problem, they need money to make money.
I don't know how they ever got a 4 star rating, it not even close. To bad, this course could be really good if someone put some money into it.
