HR
Rode the Blues (6751/72.1/136) in over 4.5 H with Perry mid day on a GN "Hot Deal". Sunny, fairly calm and around 70 made for pleasant golfing conditions. Played behind a slow 4some and waited most shots.
Tees were the weak link and a mixed bag. Some thin and not that well maintained for divots, others immaculate?
Fairways mostly lush and good to play from.
Rough was fairly lush close to the fairway. Thick even though mostly mowed down. Thinner the farther you got from the fairway.
Sand traps had good quality sand and were very well maintained.
Large, undulating greens were smooth, quick and firm. They rolled excellent, holding irons with minor run out. And when I say quick, a ball you thought you died at the hole could have 8-10' coming back.
Customer service excellent. Quick efficient check in but no on course services. Carts have been upgraded to include GPS. Course is not well marked for yardages if you do not have a measuring device of some kind. Challenging course in nice condition overall. Both the layout and the greens are well above average. Best course within at least 50 miles in all directions, definitely recommended.
Good for some. Bad for others
Great layout. Greens were in great shape. Fast, true, difficult. The rest of the course…not so much. Brown, dead spots, ruts. Signage is poor. Totally unfair to women and seniors. 5500 yard forward tees. Ravines and water to hit over. My wife hated it.
Great course conditions
The staff at the Pro Shop was very pleasant to deal with. The course was well maintained, the greens were in great condition. It’s nice to see a course where the greens are fast and true. The players at this course fix ball marks, it was nice to see as many courses recently I have noticed golfers not fixing ball marks on greens, most likely because I have been plying at less expensive courses than this one as of late. Definitely will back, worth every penny!!
Great layout
Hunter Ranch has a great layout. Greens were excellent and fast. Overall, the course was in great shape.
Hidden gem in CA's central coast
Hunter Ranch could be a top 100 public course with a little marketing. Definitely on par with Grizzly Ranch which is just ranked this year. I played on a perfect day with little wind. The course is quite challenging from the blue tee. Many trees blocking the approach if your tee shots are at the wrong place. You really need to plan strategically. Makes the round a lot of fun.
Hunter Fun
Had a great time it was a bit hot but the condition of the course was excellent. Looking forward to playing again.
Better be a player
This is an above average course, don't expect to score well the first time out, excellent shape but not player friendly, need to play here a few times to adjust to proper tees etc.-the kind of course that qualifies your handicap. Not fun for your wife unless she is above average.
SLO
That’s you get here. Very slow pace of play, be ready to wait between each hole. No marshal to speed up play. Our GPS Rangefinder said we were 20 minutes behind after 9 holes. We quit after 10 holes, very frustrating, don’t think we’ll be back.
It is almost a links golf course
The layout of Hunter Ranch is good. The front is challenging, but far easier than the back nine.
I'm sure the back nine wouldn't be easier the 2nd time around, but still challenging.
The course is walkable, but you need to be in shape to walk 18.
If I'm in the area, I will definitely play Hunter Ranch again.
Nice But Weird
Front 9 has a great layout. Back 9 is not so user friendly. Course management needs to figure out a way to create more visibility on blind shots; cut down trees, especially the one on 18. Not a course for the average golfer who will lose 24 balls, spend countless minutes looking for thier ball if they miss hit it.
Greens are pure. Fairway are nice. Bunkers are nice. With the expensive rates I recommend leveling out the tee boxes so at least you have a flat lie to start each hole.
I won’t be going back until they change some things. Great pit stop for a road trip to take a leak or drop a deuce though.
