Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in slightly over 4 1/2H twilight on a GN "Hot Deal". Matched up with Dave, who after comparing notes turns out we have corresponded on the same forum posts in "Places to Play". We played behind a walking 4some and waited every shot most of the last 15 holes. Slow POP did not matter with excellent company, we still finished well before dark. Sunny, fairly calm and around 70 made for nice golfing conditions.
Tees were very mediocre. Thin and not that well maintained for divots.
Fairways had brown dormant patches but played well. Mostly lush, nice to play from.
Rough was fairly lush close to the fairway. Thick even though mostly mowed down. Thinner the farther you got from the fairway.
Sand traps had good quality sand. Very well maintained.
Large, undulating greens were smooth, medium fast and firm. They rolled nicely, holding irons with minor run.
Customer service very good, quick efficient check in but no on course services. Carts have been upgraded to include GPS. Course is not well marked for yardages if you do not have a measuring device of some kind. Challenging course in nice condition overall. Both the layout and the greens are well above average. Definitely recommended.
Good course
Enjoyed the course a lot but not really a $95 + / round course.
Challenging
Loved the course and the layout. Good shape but not a $95 /round course
Food experience
Club needs to figure out the food and bar. We ordered on the 8th hole a d had to wait in a long line to pay for our food. No benefit to pre ordered and the waitress was too busy servicing all the outside tables. Need to add more staff or fix this issue. Really bad experience and I’ve had this same experience the last few times playing.
Mediocre all the way around
We had an enjoyable time on a mediocre course.
I had high hopes. The location in foothills and around a creek was promising. But the course did not deliver.
The layout was interesting, with lots of ups and downs. But there are far too many blind shots, steep slopes, trees too close to the center and greens. A course should reward a good shot and penalize a bad one. There are too many times when a good shot ended up in a bad spot (eg. Hole 10, 270 to the creek, hit a decent shot, Cauchy the downhill and in the rough right before the creek - I hit drives maybe 240).
The fairways are not in good shape. The rough is a disaster. Tire tracks. Large dead spots. Holes and ruts. Uneven grass. As bad as I have seen.
A bright spot was the greens. They were in good shape. rolled true and with good speed.
The clubhouse was ok. The calendar to were nice. The restaurant / bar seems good (hard to tell during COVID-19).
Best part ware the views!
Wonderful day for golf
It was a perfect weather for golf. Perfect temp. Greens were smooth and fast. Fairways were in good shape. Look forward to playing again.
This used to be one of my favorites
I’ve been coming here for years from the Bay Area and love the layout. Today was beyond disappointing. They have this set up for your players. The greens are like a 14 on the stump meter, and it’s virtually unplayable. If you’re a super low handicapped or better you might like it, but I won’t be back. This has been zero fun, the whole round is defensive golf. I’m a 10.5, and had over 40 putts. It’s not set up for the average golfer to enjoy. Also, the trap faces are swallowing balls.
Great layout
Hunter Ranch is always a joy to play. It had a great layout with excellent greens. Fairways are in winter condition right now but still playable. Sand traps are above average. The restaurant is still offering takeout items.
Hunter Ranch is a go to central coast course
Always a great course
Beautiful day. 2 of us played in about 3.5 hours. Greens were excellent.
Love playing this challenging course
Great views, they do need to put the rings in the flags, so you are not reaching in to get your ball.
Safer not to reach in .
Have whip creme for Irish coffees
Glad the “no see um” bugs were not out!

Rode the Blues (6751/72.7/138) in 3H, 50M mid day on a GN "Hot Deal", matched up with Greg. Excellent golfer, fun to play with and it turns out he lives about 5 blocks from me! Sunny, fairly calm and around 85 made for nice golfing conditions.
Tees were the weak link. Looks like they heavily sanded them recently? Many sandy areas but mostly well maintained for divots.
Fairways mostly lush, nice to play from. Numerous spots soft from heavy watering.
Rough was fairly lush close to the fairway. Mostly mowed down, not overly penal. Thinner the farther you got from the fairway.
Sand traps had good quality sand. Very well maintained.
Large, undulating greens were smooth, medium fast and firm. Showed no evidence of being aerated 3 weeks ago, they rolled nicely. Usually held irons with minor run out if you hit a firm spot, or stopped and backed up when you hit a soft spot.
Both the layout and the greens are well above average. Customer service very good, quick efficient check in but no on course services. Basic carts do not have GPS, and the course is not well marked for yardages if you do not have a measuring device of some kind. Challenging course in nice condition overall. Definitely recommended.
Best course in the Central Valley
Love this course so much! The front 9 is a parkland style course with two amazing par 5’s. The back 9 is more target golf with forced carries and water on most holes. The 18th is an amazing vista and great hole. Always love coming to Paso Robles to play Hunters Ranch!
It's a pearl
What an awesome course to find your six iron on. Was windy the day I played but spray and pray as I may it only added to the charm. Playing the whites I managed to hit my share of the greens in reg only to find the greens dastardly. What a joy to birdie the 160 hidden green across the creek where you can see only the top of the flag :) For the above average player, this is a must play course.
Great course
I play here every visit.. A little pricey but worth it. Always in great shape. Excellent staff. During non-Covid, the restaurant is a great place to eat any meal. Hopefully in the spring on my next visit, the pandemic will be over.
