The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

surprised
this course was surprising in good shape greens was nice which have been a problem for awhile came from along ways will play more offen
Steadily improving
I had written this course off and swore to never return. Didn’t play it for some time, but gave it another chance.
It has steadily gotten better this year. Started out rough but coming along.
Greens keeper is doing a good job.
Course in good shape, pace of play is very slow
For the Texas heat course was in great shape, holes 5-7 were very dry though but still playable. Some tee boxes are hard as rock
Greens are in great shape and rolled pretty true. Two temp greens
Staff is super friendly, pace of okay is terrible. Was let off as a solo but course was jammed so it took 40 minutes to play the first two holes. Paired up with the two in front as the rest of the course was so packed ahead but didn’t see the Marshall again after the 1st hole to enforce pace of play.
Would come back again, hopefully pace is better as I loved the layout!
Improving
After a rough start this year the course has really rounded into shape this summer. Greens were much better . They are working on areas. Worse complaint is maybe t boxes need help.
Pretty good course for the price
Everything was great except for 13 had a temporary green.
Staff was friendly and helpful. The greens and fairways are n good shape. The tee boxes on the other hand are in ruff shape hard as rocks and some need to new turf. over all course is in much better shape than 4 months ago.
Improving
Haven’t played in a while and it seems like the course is trending in the right direction. It’s not Pebble Beach but then again you didn’t expect that in Deer Park.
My one complaint is we had teens, weed smokers and others in front of us and no help from a Marshall to navigate around.
I’ll go again, when my regular course is booked.
Great value
Course was well taken care of for the price. Greens well taken care of, fairways in good shape. Sand traps were excellent this day. Only real complaint we all had every T box was hard as rocks. Almost impossible to put a T into the ground. Once off the Tee box it played very well.
Could be better
Very hard tee boxs, greens, fairways. Sunday needs avaliable food and drinks before 12.
Course is Improving!
Glad to see the course is getting into good shape. The greens are starting to come along. Some portions still need improvements but played here on a hot deal and it was totally worth it. Give it a few more months and this course will be in a great condition.
