The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Golfer Reviews
Good condition!
Sunday morning tee time for 2 was right around $100. Staff friendly and accommodating. Pace was slow, played through a 4 some that got played through by two other 4 somes….something marshal should address. We were behind a single who was behind a 4 some, I assumed we would pair up, but they drove ahead after teeing and even if we came up they seemed resistant to join up, again something a marshal should control to help pace of play. There needed to being 2 4 somes pretty stacked behind us.
Overall, one of the better values south of Houston, fairways were decent, greens were fair to good and consistent. Some POA on the greens but not too bad. Would def play again!
Thank you
Beautiful front 9. We will definitely be pursuing all 18 our next visit.
Unforgettable experience
This was the first time I brought my kids to a nicer Golf Course and they were very excited during our round. I tried to prepare them for the rate of speed we’d need to play at and to remain focused on the game. Initially we started off rushing a bit ahead of a larger and more experienced, more fast paced group. Courteously, we skipped holes 2, 3, and 4 to get way ahead of that group which gave us some cushion. After that awesome hole 9 we circled back to revisit those holes we skipped earlier. We had a great time overall. All staff very professional and friendly. We will be back. Thank you.
Water Please
Greens are a 6 out of 10, Tee Boxes are a 3 out of 10.
The issue seems water, it is dry, dusty and hard. This makes the fairways and rough nice for the roll but other than that we need a little improvement. The value deal made it worth it though.
Better than reviews reflect
I’ve seen the poor overall reviews for this course, but noticed a lean toward more favorable reviews of late. Decided to finally give it a go. The course was fine. Occasionally ball lands in a bald spot on the edge of the fairway and I moved it a foot or two to some grass. Greens were above average for a course in this price range. This place shouldn’t have over 4 stars, but it shouldn’t have the same review as Southwyck either haha 3.5-4 star course for <$60. Will play again.
Good value course
Course was in fair condition. Some of the tee boxes were very bare but the par 3 boxes were ok. Sand traps were in good condition and the greens were fair given that they are starting to grow back out. Hole placements were challenging.
Solid Course
Staff was super friendly, excited to hear it was my first time at the course, fully went over the course layout and hazards. Fairways were actually pretty decent, definitely better than other courses since the freeze. Greens for the most part were in good shape, only about 3 holes that were in need of a bit of TLC. Just remember you’re in “Stink-adena,” nothing the course or the staff can do about, but it’s easy to get over. Definitely will be back, fun course to walk and good amount of water (not the “take your lunch money water” but the “that’ll be fun water”).
Great course
The course was in good condition for a muni.
The tee boxes were hard as a rock but the course was well maintained
Good course
Good course little expensive for an average course but still would go again no problem. Good staff, sometimes you’ll wait for the people in front of you took 6 hours to play 18 way too slow but overall still good. Sometimes it’s slow sometimes it’s packed.
Pleasantly surprised
Having read countless comments about the decline of this course in recent years (I hadn't played it in over a decade), my expectations coming in were rather tempered. However, I found the course to be quite respectable. The greens were a tad slow, but were fairly consistent and rolled nicely. The fairways, with exception of a few areas with drainage issues, were decent for this time of year. A few of the tee boxes could use some TLC, but overall it was an enjoyable round of golf. I'm sure I'll be back again sometime after the weather starts warming up.
Deserves a revisit
The course layout is excellent, and the signage is clear and well-placed. While nothing disappointed me, there were also no particularly surprising or exceptional elements. I made the reservation using TeeOff, which provided a great deal. Considering the price, it's definitely worth playing again.
Great little local course
While there are definitely improvements that can be made on this course but it is overall a great course for the money.
My only complaint is that the beverage and snack bar closes a little early.
Stressing but fun day
Course allowed us to still play even though i mistakenly reserved for the wrong day. Very nice course layout. Tee boxes a little beat up, but fairway and greens were very good. Fast greens.
