Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.

Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.

No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.

On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.

Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Course in good shape, pace of play is very slow

For the Texas heat course was in great shape, holes 5-7 were very dry though but still playable. Some tee boxes are hard as rock

Greens are in great shape and rolled pretty true. Two temp greens

Staff is super friendly, pace of okay is terrible. Was let off as a solo but course was jammed so it took 40 minutes to play the first two holes. Paired up with the two in front as the rest of the course was so packed ahead but didn’t see the Marshall again after the 1st hole to enforce pace of play.

Would come back again, hopefully pace is better as I loved the layout!

Improving

After a rough start this year the course has really rounded into shape this summer. Greens were much better . They are working on areas. Worse complaint is maybe t boxes need help.

Improving

Haven’t played in a while and it seems like the course is trending in the right direction. It’s not Pebble Beach but then again you didn’t expect that in Deer Park.

My one complaint is we had teens, weed smokers and others in front of us and no help from a Marshall to navigate around.

I’ll go again, when my regular course is booked.

Great value

Course was well taken care of for the price. Greens well taken care of, fairways in good shape. Sand traps were excellent this day. Only real complaint we all had every T box was hard as rocks. Almost impossible to put a T into the ground. Once off the Tee box it played very well.

Course is Improving!

Glad to see the course is getting into good shape. The greens are starting to come along. Some portions still need improvements but played here on a hot deal and it was totally worth it. Give it a few more months and this course will be in a great condition.

Course should be rated HIGHER!

This course should be rated higher based off the service from staff alone. Hands down some of the nicest and friendliest people I’ve met at a course ever! Yeah this course could be better maintenance wise, but the staff and service make this course more than worth it!

Horrible

Battleground has so much potential but it is painfully obvious that no one cares about the course conditions. 90% of the tee boxes were near impossible to put a tee in the ground. We literally broke 8-9 tees just trying to tee up. Battleground’s best days may be behind it. The course is horrible and most of the staff ate just grumpy old men. I wouldn’t pay $20 for this course, much less the $50 they are charging on Fridays. I felt robbed of money and time it was so bad.
