The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Slow regulars
Pace of play was great on front nine. Caught up with several groups of regulars at the start of the back nine. The groups would not allow anyone to play through and I am a fast prayer. Three greens are in need of fungus repair. Other than that it was a good day.
Really Poor Condition
I’m a resident of Deer Park and live walking distance to the course. I’ve played this course many times over the years. It used to be my go to, but I moved on once the conditions deteriorated so badly several years ago. Got tired of hearing all the excuses about why the course was in such bad shape… It’s really too bad, because the course design and layout are fantastic. I decided to give it a try once again last Friday, paying full price ($50 plus). Absolutely not worth the money. Greens are STILL just terrible. Newly redone bunkers not being taken care of. Course not manicured very well at all. Seems minimal maintenance performed daily. Don’t even think about the driving range… Can’t believe this one time gem of a golf course and practice facility stays in such poor condition.
Front 9
The front 9 was ok the back 9 had some very unplayable greens .I had to move my ball a couple times to make it where I could putt. The fairways were in good shape .I wish the Marshall was better at keeping pace of play we had a traffic jam the whole back 9
Terrible greens. Do not worth the price
The greens are in terrible conditions, specially the front 9.
Course in general are also not recovered from the winter storm. I the actual condition it doesn’t worth the price.
Nice layout though.
Affordable and fun, but two greens need to be repaired
Had an outstanding time playing this course. Was very affordable for a Saturday morning tee time, the staff was friendly, and the course was fun. The only issue was 2 greens were in rough condition. It’s the only thing keeping me from giving this a 5 star ranking. One par 3 in particular But for a casual golfer this was a great place to play. It was challenging enough for my friends who are more experienced players, but not hard enough that I couldn’t enjoy it as well. I will be back.
Really fun, great staff, a few tough greens.
Overall had a blast at this course. The morning tee times were remarkably affordable. Only issue with this course is 2 holes had very rough greens. The rest of the course is well taken care off. Beer was affordable, staff was friendly, course layout was fun, the course also has a cool theme were every hole is named after someone who fought in the Texas Revolution. I will definitely be back.
Wouldn’t pay full green fee
So read the reviews about greens being bad but wow they are awful I would say 5-6 of 18 really bad
One in particular just pick ball up move on!!
Rest of course fairways and t boxes good shape after we had lots of rain so no complaints there I love the layout of the course some really interesting holes !
Pace of play ! I was a single there was a single in front he was behind 2 very slow 2 balls and 2 singles behind me WHAT???
Never saw the Marshall once I caught the guy I don’t and we paired up as you should but we had to wait a long time on the tees !
Ok so I got a deal for $20 and thought I’d greens bad so what and that was fine !
No way would I pay full price until green issues sorted
Fun course
Took my new to golf sons to play here. Fun layout and friendly staff. Very green thanks to all the rain, had 3 or 4 greens that need work, not puttable from most locations. Love they had junior tees, really made day more encouraging and fun for them. Would definitely play again for the price.
A few rough greens, but overall great track
Was hesitant to play based on some reviews, but I went out early, before 630, and was done in 3 hours. A few greens had some rough spots, but overall thought the course was in good shape. Very enjoyable, would go back
