The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Course has gone down in quality
Always heard great things about this course, when I went though 3 of the holes were under construction a large amount of the sand traps were unplayable due to what I assume was construction. The greens were unkept and some of the tee boxes were almost completely grass less. Great course design wise provides a great challenge just wish they would get back to taking good care of it.
Nice come back
Stopped playing here in summer of last year as greens were awful. They have really returned and we’re clean, true, and fast.
Okay course under construction
The course was undergoing maintenance when I was there, and so some of the holes were either closed or awkward. This was the only issue with the course itself. The facilities staff weren’t the most friendly, and the pace of play was slow. I finished 16 holes in around 4 hours.
But seriously any 5 star review is fake
I have kept on eye on BG for over two years from when the course seriously started to deteriorate along with some major customer service issues hoping it would return to its former solid 3 star course. I used to alternate between Bay Forest and BG for years. BG has seriously lost pace as Bay forest continues to be solid 4 star course with great staff and excellent greens. BG has lost its value for the deteriorated conditions and customer experience and now maintains a solid 1 star only for the convenience of nowhere else to play, with an interesting layout but overpriced for your experience and course conditions.
Disappointed
I can’t believe they have let this course get this bad.
Battle Ground 1/18/21
I think course was overbooked and had to wait for carts to get turned in before we could start playing.
The course was in decent shape for this time of year.
Overall good confitions
Course in great shape for this time of year, carts looked almost new. Only complaint was driving range closed at 12:30pm so no warmups for round and snack bar closed at 3pm so no burgers before back nine
The course was good
My biggest gripe was the pace of play; and the cart girl came around on the second hole and with the pace being so slow we didn’t see her again until hole 15 .
Good Times
I had an awesome time at Battleground. The course is a nice track. It offered enough of a challenge for me to have to be competitive and thinking through each hole. After the rain bunkers were in a less that desirable condition.. The big attraction to me was the staff. The pro shop, starter, snack cart and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful . They were also sympathetic to me. My score card looked terrible.
Forgiving course and very kind patrons
The greens and tee boxes were pretty rough, the whole course is pretty tight. Very common for your ball or others to end up on the adjacent hole.
That said, we had a great day! We would definitely play here again.
Nice layout with poor conditions
The course has a nice layout and is challenging. The greens are terrible unless you like slow, hairy greens.
We were not able to hit range balls due to “their system” being down. At least i can say i played Battleground. I seriously doubt i will ever play there again though.
4 hour and 45 minute round
No starter at noon on a Saturday with a packed tee sheet. Multiple ppl cut in front of us with no Marshall to be seen. Never coming here again.
