The Battleground at Deer Park

About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Good course... Bad greens
Good layout. Good fairways. Good layout. Perfect amount of water hazards. The greens though... Woof. About 1/3 of the holes have huge dead sandy spots on the greens. I’m sure they’ll fill in as summer progresses but at the time they were rough. Overall a good experience though
Rained out after 9
The course was kind of baked out from the Texas summer-heat when I played in late-June. The tee boxes were hard, the fairways were thin, and the greens were both dead in places & not recently mowed. When we started our round, the starter basically told us it was going to be a 5 hour round. I think the course conditions were due more to the lack of rain than lack of maintenance. Our round was washed out after 9 holes, and I intend to return because I enjoy the course. Battleground is challenging, with water in play on a majority of holes. The staff is friendly, and the practice facilities include a driving range, chipping area, and putting green. It's a decent value for the money.

Layout is great
The layout is very nice the only issue here is the putting greens they are having some sort of fungus problem

Greens the problem
I've played this course for several years. I like the layout and it's close to home. But last year they had problems with the greens and a year later they are still not back. You are changing top dollar for a round but the greens are not in good condition on a lot of the holes.

Tee boxes ... ground was not soft enough to place tee properly... ground extremely hard ... required heavy force to place tee into ground

Nice layout
Greens were slow because they are coming in after a tough winter. Some of them had big bare spots yet. It was 93 degrees and humid and the beverage cart didn't get to us until the 14th hole. The teeing area was so hard that we had to use a driver head adjusting tool to make a hole for our tee.

Battling It Out at Battleground
Hadn't played Battleground in about 4 months but found a convenient time to play today. I heard the greens were in bad shape and so I had avoided the course. Overall, the course has greened-up nicely. Some of the greens were blightedand had some bare areas but surprisingly, most were in good shape. I did take issue with the speed of the greens. They werre slower than i remember and I had difficulty getting a true roll from my putts. I checked with the GM and he said they were letting the greens grow and in fact, they may have been completley reseeded. In any case, I was pleased with the course today. Because of the conditions of the greens, I felt the price of the round was too expensive. $26-28/round would've been more appropriate.

Biggest rip-off in the area
How can you all charge the rates you do when you golf course is the worst conditioned track in the area? GN needs to put a warning on the app about the condition of the greens. They are unplayable!

Good course - rough conditions
Overall not a bad spot to knock out a round. Good pricing and adequate timing between groups. The greens were rough, needed to be mowed and had actual sand patches on them - Not bunkers, just barren areas with no grass filled in with sand. The course also floods pretty decently between fairways after some rain. Take this with a grain of salt because the course conditions could just be from a combination of COVID—19 restrictions and the weather we’ve had recently,

Value
Layout is exciting and keeps you interested while still being forgiving. They know that they lost several of their greens over the winter, and they are actively working to bring them back. The reviews about the greens are accurate, but might very well be out of date in a matter of days or a week. Don’t shy away!

Disappoonted
My group and I were very disappointed with today's conditions of the golf course. The greens were horrible they were all dried up they had sand all on them and the greens had some kind of fungus.. The greens had what appeared to be holes and bumps all over them. The back nine had only a few holes which were affected but the front nine every single green was horrible.

Last Chance
Have tried to give the course the benefit of the doubt for past rounds, but just not acceptable anymore. It's always either rock hard or soggy and muddy. As in the bunkers were lakes. Greens weren't even in playable condition. The staff is nice enough, but overall I won't be coming back

Great Course Layout, Extremely Friendly Staff
During this Covid-19 stuff most courses downtown have been completely packed. Decided to check out Battlegrounds for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of safe parking, beautiful club house, reasonable greens fees. The greens weren't in great shape but that happens at most courses, and from what I have read they usually have them is great shape. Pace of play was awesome, was great not having folks right in front of us or behind us all day. All around great experience, will definitely be back.

Terrible greens
Beautiful course and have played it many times but right now the greens are in horrible shape. They have never been this bad before. Only decent greens were 10 and 11.
