The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

4 hour and 45 minute round
No starter at noon on a Saturday with a packed tee sheet. Multiple ppl cut in front of us with no Marshall to be seen. Never coming here again.
Thanksgiving Round
I NEVER leave reviews but I feel like I need to today. This was my second time playing battleground in about 1 year and the course has greatly improved. For everyone saying the greens were bad before, whatever the greens keeper is doing is working because they were AMAZING. The greens were fast, balls checked well on approach shots, and there weren’t any patches, dead spots, or anything like that. The fairways were a little tight but I’ll chalk that up to the colder weather lately. All in all, $36 for a 7am tee time with decent fairways and amazing greens was a steal. Will absolutely come back again.
In better shape than I have read .
With all the reviews I've read recently I thought the course was going to be in terrible shape as far as the greens go, they were in actually good shape ; now of course they have been a lot faster before however the improvements of what I have read on the reviews was really surprising. Bunkers need to have a little more TLC, fairways were not too bad tight lies as always but not very many bare spots. Over alI I believe the course is in pretty good shape . With the greens coming back strong in the next 2 weeks or so I believe it will only get better
Greens are horrendous
Battleground GC officially has the worst greens I have ever played. There were burn marks through the middle of the greens, holes that made it look like a battleground. I saw a police chase with a man hanging onto the front windshield of a Jeep happen while on 4 green. Fairways are way too firm, and water is placed in awful spots. Range had no balls and when I asked staff if they could go pick the range they didn't. Food is only thing there not below average. Food is average. I played in a high school tournament here. Course is fairly easy and short. The terrible green condition makes it very hard to make putts outside of 5 feet and which makes it hard to make birdies, even with the short layout. I shot 74-74. I am a scratch and played fairly average.
Good value
Today me and a buddy wanted to play on a Saturday early afternoon and not break the bank. This course was fun and a good value.
Course has a good layout.
This course has a good layout. Last time I played the greens were in better shape. Pace of play was slow and would benefit from having a Marshall on the course to speed things up.
The course itself is poorly maintained. All they do is mow. Grass grown up around cart paths, bunkers, etc. This course used to be maintained better. I think it started with new management. This course will continue to be a last choice option for me until things change.
Nice day
Overall the course is good shape, bunkers need some work but all in all a great place for a round
More of a fishing, bike ridding place than a golf course
There are so many people fishing the ponds and so many non-golfers bike ridding and walking on the paths- not safe to play there- very high risk of a ball hitting someone. No marshal or any staff seeing out there. Won’t play again, too risky, especially in pm.
