About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

First time back in many yrs
... just as I had remembered it. Great shape overall. I had heard the stories of the lost greens some time back. They were in fine shape and putted well.
Great round today in perfect weather!

Enjoyed the game, very crowded 4.5 hours but that’s the way it is on weekends weather was awesome course and greens have improved a lot every where else was more expensive

good for the money
I love the course ! I think they need to spend more time taking care of the greens !
The Greens make the course !!
You can have a wonderful course but if the greens are not good then you have a bad course !

No control of other golfers violating rules
I was hit into while teeing off then the guy wanted to fight me. The course was backed up and he was wanting to play through everyone It just sucked

Long Time
Knowing the course conditions, it was far off list of courses wanting to play. Receive some encouraging news from the course that greens were better. Waited a couple of weeks and decide to try. Here we go!
Tee boxes need work. Teeing area not consistent, to much grass and hard. Difficult to place tee.
Fairways are good but little long.
Sand traps were ok with some not playable.
Now the greens. Most of the greens were “OK” but difficult to read. Slow and bumpy. Sign indicated 9.5????? Not sure. Greens were what I expected and not much more. I would give the greens more time before returning.

Conditions
I started playing here a few years ago and lived the course , but this entire year they’ve been working on the course and having temp holes, and conditions have been sub par. I wont Be back to this course .

Staff was a little short and not real friendly..
Other than that, even after a ton of rain the coarse was still very playable and well conditioned..

Course in fair condition with several greens under repair so temporary greens in use. Also, greens recently had been aerated.

Need improvements
I have been a kind of regular to this course but i feel it is time to stop. Between the temporary greens, the bad greens, the bridge construction and the slow pace it is hard to find satisfaction. Slow pace is the worst actually. Marshall simply does not control the slow players and some group of players just dont care to slow down all others.

Getting better
Battleground is the closest course to my house and I use to play it at least once a month. About 6 months ago I said I wouldn't go back until they fixed the greens. At that point all 18 greens were garbage. Mostly sand with patches of weeds and grass. About a week ago, I read that the greens were looking better, so I gave it a chance. I was surprised to see they the course was looking better. The back 9 were in decent shape. If there were patchy spots, they were in the fringe and didn't effect play. The front 9 however, are still in rough shape. Most had patches of dirt in the middle of the greens which absolutely effected play. 3 greens on the front 9 are so bad that they have temporary greens cut into the fairway.
Overall, the course is making progress but they still have a lot of work to do on the front 9.

Still our go to course even with issues they have had with greens, which are definitely on the rebound. 3 hour round on a great Wednesday afternoon.
