The Battleground at Deer Park

About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Greens under repair but coming along nicely
Greens haven’t been the best but as of today they were a lot better and they are trying to repair them quickly.
Needs some work
We played during the twilight hours and were supposedly the only people out there but instead we ended up being sandwiched on the back 9 from groups that seemed to pop up out of no where.
We also had a group of teenagers standing in the middle of the fairway on hole 18 fishing in the water hazard and talking while we were trying to finish up. I get it was the twilight hours but dealing with people making a second round - causing pace of play issues and pedestrians standing in the middle of the fairway did not make this course worth the price.

Battle Ground
Quite a nice course, though the are on a few temp greens which they notify people of. It is a bit over crowded which ruins a nice casual pace as you always have someone breathing down your neck. About the average for a popular course though I guess. It was a Sunday and the snack bar was closed. They also let the cook go early inside at the Bar/Grill which was annoying as we were famished and could only get candy peanutbutter Crackers and Chips.

Lots of potential
The course has everything you would want in a course. Excellent club house, practice greens, practice range, 3 hole practice course even, but the greens are a disaster. Some are completely unplayable and a second green has been cut into the fairway, throwing yardage completely off. Beautiful course otherwise, but I wont play again until the greens are fixed.
What happened?
I usually love playing here especially when it’s around 20$. Unfortunately I’m going to have to give them a month or so before I go back. The course was in bad shape and the greens are horrible. Not sure what happen but about 7 of the greens are so bad they had to put makeshift greens 40 yards in front the real ones which aren’t any better. Don’t play here until they have it back together.

Really bad greens
The greens on the entire course are really bad. There are 3 temporary greens, that are basically putting on the fairway.

Worst course I’ve played in Houston
The price was fair but no warning that they have essentially let the entire golf course be reclaimed by Mother Nature!! The greens were so bad that I find it hard to believe they actually let people try to play. No way to play a serious round of golf under those conditions. These are a few of the many reasons this is the worst golf course I’ve played in Houston in my 12+ years here. Save your money and play elsewhere!!

Course is deteriorating
This is the closest course to my home so it is a frequent for me. The course seems to be falling apart recently. The greens were mostly sand and were pitted beyond belief. 3 of the holes have a temporary green in the fairway while the regular green tries to heal. The fairways were inconsistent in thickness. This was the first time I have played there and I wished I had a full refund. Please do not schedule until the course had been repaired. If you are going to go out with some buddies and don’t care what your score is ten this course would be fun. If you are trying to improve your game in any way, this course will probably hurt more than kelp.

Horrible greens
These are the worse greens I have ever seen. A few holes have alternate greens because they are ao bad. The actual greens have sand, dirt, and weeds groing out of them. Ive never hit a green before and landed in a sand pile. If you want to practice your driver and irons its fine but if you want to keep score or play an actual round of golf, go elsewhere.

Greens are terrible
Golf Now should be ashamed that they do not let players know that there are a number of temporary greens and that the rest are suffering from a bad winter.
Very poor course conditions
The greens are absolutely atrocious, charged 54 per person. Fairways aren’t any better. It was a complete waste of time. One bathroom stop for 18 holes because one is out of service. One water stop for 18 holes. Cannot bring outside coolers in. Do not waste your time or money. Greens are being reworked poorly at that. The existing greens are more like sand bunkers.

Good course bad greens
Overall the course is very well taken care of except for a few weeds here and there but the greens are awful. Most of them have very little grass and are mostly dirt. There are a few good ones. But for $27 it’s not too bad

Greens are worst I've ever seen in greater Houston
I've played this course at least a dozen times over the course of the last 6 years. Paid to play a round here and was totally disappointed by the condition of the greens. Greens were terrible. They were the worst I'd ever seen in greater Houston. The guy in the pro shop (Mark) was nice but after our foursome got to the first green we immediately went in to ask for our money back. We were directed to go get a refund from GolfNow and after calling GolfNow they advised that Battleground should have refunded the money to us. Disappointing how the course is being handled right now. Honestly they shouldn't allow anyone to pay given the terrible green conditions.

Greens are beat - but otherwise great
I'm really torn by this course because for the value, you can't beat it but they appear to have had some infection with their greens and they are almost all shot to heck and are unplayable. It's sad because otherwise the course is GREAT, but if you like good greens don't play here because you will leave frustrated. I'm a hack anyway so who cares... but caveat emptor!

terrible greens
I've played this course before but today the greens were a mess. tee boxes were hard as a rock. fairways were decent.
mgmt knew the greens were poor so free drinks at least next time. don't know when i'll be back.

Course conditions
This course has the worse greens you will ever find. Unplayable and not worth the price they are charging, a total embarrassment to the golf world.....I wanted my money back and they refused, only offered a rain check. You can’t putt at all....unbelievable. Don’t pay for this course.

The greens are unplayable bring your sand wedge you will need it if you are more than 10 feet out
