The Battleground at Deer Park

About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Fix your greens; fix your pace of play
I’ve played here many times. This the greens were the worst I’ve ever seen on this course. Downright embarrassing. Until you guys fix your greens, I will not be back here. Also, your pace of play is a disaster. The starter told us when we tee’d off that it was cartpath only. However, the fairways were hard as rock. No marshal ever told us that driving on the fairways was ok, nor was any marshal on the back nine monitoring any pace. Fix your product, Battleground! This was the worst experience I’ve had here!
The greens are the worst I’ve ever seen; pace of play is a concern
I’ve played here several times over the last few years. This staff has gone through several revamps of their greens- but this is BY FAR the worst I’ve ever seen greens on any course I’ve ever played. This includes Pasadena municipal. I’ve never been so disappointed in the condition of greens on a course. In fact it’s so bad I came here to let management know they must do something about it soon. I like this course because its close, but I refuse to play here until these greens look better. Downright embarrassing. Get your act together! Also, one note: the starter told us it was cartpath only play... the fairways were bone dry during the round. Pace of play is usually slow here, but making play cart path only when the fairways are hard as a rock just adds pain in a place that this course can hardly afford to have it. Fix your greens. Fix your pace of play, and I’ll be back.

Rough shape
Greens are all sand, litter. Fairways are even rough on some holes. First time to golf here in about 5 years and it has gone down hill. Would recommend to go play somewhere else unless you get a good deal.

Not worth it
Greens are in terrible shape, not even green. It seems that they over book as a friend and I were paired with another twosome and a single. We teed off ten minutes after our actual tee time. Ended up being a 5.5 hour round. There was no marshal making sure people keep pace of play. At one point we counted 12 carts spread across 3 holes Only saw the cart girl on hole 4. You are better off spending your money elsewhere. The fact that they charge full price while the greens are in that bad of shape is absurd.

Greens are dead
Not sure why they are allowing people to pay to play battleground right now. The green are basically dirt and clumps of grass. It’s a total waste of time and money... I’ve played here dozens of times and feel we should of received a rain check or refund due to the poor conditions.. they should at least warn golfers before they play...

Greens
Greens may be the worse I have ever seen at this course. Sand everywhere. Patches of grass everywhere. Very few 2 putts today. And if you did it was rare. Love the course and staff but the greens are horrible. Please help.
The greens were horrible and when i paid the staff did not me know about the greens also they were having a golf tournment i would not have book it if i knew that was going i think they should have refunded my money because the bad condition of the greens so sad i will never play there again

Greens are in bad shape!
The weeds have overtaken the greens and makes it almost impossible to putt. They are trying to treat and fertilize the greens but it will be a while before they improve.

Nice Course - Greens are in Duress
I was satisfied with everything except the greens condition. Some type of weed/grass has taken over and makes it impossible to putt on a line.

Battle Ground 4/1/19
Course very dry which is ok on fairways. Tee boxes so dry was hard to get tee in the ground. Greens were very poor condition.
May be awhile before I go there again!
Good layout, terrible greens.
The clubhouse is very nice, the staff is very friendly. The course is designed very well with raised greens and elevations changes throughout. The course will be great in a few months, but the greens were virtually unplayable. A weed had taken over and is on every green, speed and line are impossible your ball hits a weed and changes directions and speed.
I look forward to playing this course again in a few months when the greens are in better shape!!
Geeenless greens
Everything was great except the awful greens. Not sure if they were diseased or neglected, but every green was bald with little quarter sized tufts of bermuda that bounced the ball around.

Wake Up Battleground!
I play here often due to proximity to my work. This could be a fantastic golf course if they would just pay what it costs to maintain a golf course. The greens are a complete mess with sprouts of weeds breaking through and dead spots on every hole. They are unplayable. The geeenside bunkers are never raked or replenished so more often than not I end up dropping out of the bunker. The rest of the course is hard as a rock and just ridiculous to control. At a time of year when almost all Houston golf courses are in great condition for dome reason Battleground has no clue. The owners are obviously trying to suck the cash out of the course and dump it. It’s a shame. It could be a fun track.

All greens bad shape Needs some time
Played here last year and the greens were less than stellar, this round they were all in very bad shape. It’s unfortunate because two or three years ago this was a good course to play for the price and most greens were doing well and were playable from 95% of the surface . Right Now it’s hard to pay over $20 for any course that has all 18 greens under repair., 2 putt rule for all a greens . I enjoy the challenge of putting, and other short game enjoyment. I can hit drivers and irons on a driving range . I won’t be back this season.

Green under extreme distress
The course is well maintained but currently under duress. The fairway grasses are in good shape but are dry and hard. The greens are contaminated with poana grass and almost unputtable. We gave up and defaulted to 2 put assumption to keep up speed of play. I’ve always appreciated the care taken to keep the rough areas picked up.

Terrible greens
I would not recommend paying good money to play this course until the condition of the greens improves. At this point they are a combination of dead or dormant grass and poa annua weeds. This includes the practice facilities.
