About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Course is in good shape except for the greens. They need work, but they are working on them.

Just wow...
I’ve herd the greens where horrible,but cmon guys I walked in the pro shop asked how they where improving,employee said where getting better,super over statement 2 greens playable all of the rest in no shape or form playable.This course used to be awesome......sadly not anymore save your money and head to another course.

Disappointing
As I drove up to the course I was surprised at the lack of vehicles in the parking lot. After playing I understand why. The course was terribly lacking in grass on the greens. After all it is May and we have lad much rain, which makes grass grow. The people will not come back to a course with greens in this shape. It will be a long time before I return also

No grass on greens, just sand!!!
All greens are just sand, no grass and in terrible condition. They don’t tell you about the course condition when calling to book t-time nor at the counter. The marshall provided foolish comments like greens at all courses in the area are equally bad and “if you can putt on these greens you can putt on any greens”. What???? Thanks!

The weather was good.
The greens are shot. It's a place to practice with the driver and irons.

Anybody recommending this course is a shill
Anyone recommending this place is a shill for the golf course, trying to pump up their rating. Shame on you, that is akin to theft. My buddy and I played here 4/30/2019. The course is in terrible shape guys. When you drive up, and from the pro shop, it looks good. The fairways haven’t been mowed. The greens were even worse. The greens have no grass on them. They all have been sanded. The sand is green so it fools you from a distance. They are terrible and very, very bumpy. If you make a putt it’s luck of the bump. It should be a criminal offense to take people’s money and not tell them that the course is in such a state. And they have the hubris to have a large sign in the parking lot extolling the benefits of booking your next tournament there. Laughable. You and your friends will have more fun playing Golden Tee at a bar. At least the beer would be cold. Which, by the way, they couldn’t even do that right. GolfNow should have an avoid flagging system. GolfNow rating system artificially inflates ratings, since you give high marks for non play items which bouys the poor course rating. Stay away.
Horrible Greens
The greens were horrible. They are being seeded and it was like putting inside the bunker.

Greens are pretty much sand slow place
This used to be a good course. They have lost all their greens and they are covered with sand. No Marshall so there at 5 and 6 players in a group so pace was slow. It took us 50 minutes to get through the last 2 holes. Snack bar was also closed. Stay away from this place.

Waste of time and money
the Greens are absolutely pitiful. Very little grass. No way to put good on them. You might as well pick up and give yourself a two putt to avoid frustration.
This course should have notice on GolfNow that the greens are very poor and offer 1/2 price if anyone wants to give it a try. Right now, it’s not worth anymore.
Temperatures should not be excuse for poor quality greens. Courses all around don’t seem to have the same problem. New greens keepers who know what they are doing is the only answer for this problem. Complete replacement is the only way these greens will be good within the next 6 months.
I will call ahead the next time I consider giving them another chance.

Greens need grass!
Play here at least 5/10 times a year. I have never seen the greens in such bad shape. Already very hard tee boxes, been a wet spring, not looking good for the year.

Terrible
There’s no other way to say this they’ve lost their greens and who knows when they will get them back. Why the staff was not cognizant to tell us that beforehand is beyond my belief. They’ve lost all 18 greens. I took time off picked the course only to show up and find the course in this condition. Terrible and while We are discussing this it seems like Golf Now should be aware of this. I only wish I had taken a photo for this review.

Greens are dead
Course is normally a good value, but greens are mostly dead. Not a very enjoyable round.

Fix your greens; fix your pace of play
I’ve played here many times. This the greens were the worst I’ve ever seen on this course. Downright embarrassing. Until you guys fix your greens, I will not be back here. Also, your pace of play is a disaster. The starter told us when we tee’d off that it was cartpath only. However, the fairways were hard as rock. No marshal ever told us that driving on the fairways was ok, nor was any marshal on the back nine monitoring any pace. Fix your product, Battleground! This was the worst experience I’ve had here!
