Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.

Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.

No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.

On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.

Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Much improved

I played here a few years ago and the greens were basically dirt and unplayable. They've done a great job fixing the course. Every green was in good shape and the layout is challenging.

Poor condition, huge upside

The tee boxes are brutal. They are hard and dead. The course is close to being spectacular but the groundskeepers need to step it up. The Marshalls also need to manage pace of play a bit better too. We had a foursome ahead of us that backed up the entire course. No one checked up on that at all. It lead to a 5.25 hour round of golf.

First time in a while here.

Been a while since I played here. Avoided it as word was it was getting in bad condition but after hearing they fixed things up, it’s definitely in pretty good condition, enjoyed my time here playing along with my sister from out of town and some local members. Will be coming back and highly recommended.

Bring your patients

Trust the reviews, pace of play is slow AF.

Played on Saturday 11/16, no Marshall so you have 3 somes turning into 5 some at the turn and 6 some playing along with 5 some throughout the course.

Over 5 hours, with mostly each tee box having a squad on the tee box and another squad waiting for them, then us waiting on them. Bring your patients, it's not worth the time to play here on the weekends.

Course itself is good with rolling greens and green fairways though.

Course conditions

The fairways and greens are in great shape. But there are a few tee boxes that are really rough and need new grass. The driving range was closed due to recent rain. Over all every thing was good.

Greens great, tee boxes not

This was fun. Besides the tee boxes needing a hammer to get ur tee down, everything else was great especially the greens. Another big issue was no food on the course, no cold drinks, no cart girls. 6/10 but was good for the money

No Marshall slow pace

Course in good condition. Greens had some weeds issue's. The course is challenging you have to make shots choose club’s distance to stay in fairways. Played the first five holes fine but caught up to very slow groups lost the day light.

Enjoyed the Course!

Hadn’t played here in over a year and I would definitely recommend it! With just 3 hours to play, I was able to get in 14-15 holes, the price was right (although the course charged me an extra $3 in fees that were supposed to be covered from my GolfPass membership). Besides that, it was a great experience!
