The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Golfer Reviews
No Marshall slow pace
Course in good condition. Greens had some weeds issue's. The course is challenging you have to make shots choose club’s distance to stay in fairways. Played the first five holes fine but caught up to very slow groups lost the day light.
Enjoyed the Course!
Hadn’t played here in over a year and I would definitely recommend it! With just 3 hours to play, I was able to get in 14-15 holes, the price was right (although the course charged me an extra $3 in fees that were supposed to be covered from my GolfPass membership). Besides that, it was a great experience!
Very enjoyable round. Everything was great from start to finish. Staff warm and friendly. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in excellent shape. Holiday pace of play was good. First time playing this course, but will return again.
Finally
They are getting back to the old battle ground we use to love
Greens are coming along nicely
Back to normal
Maintenance bringing it back to more than acceptable and especially appreciate the bunker care. Wife really noticed the return of wildlife and clean restrooms.
Thank you so much for your great review! We just put a ton of new sand into the bunkers and are happy to see the course coming along nicely. Can't wait to see you all back out!
Battleground play
All in all, not the best golf course by any means, but a very good value for the money. I am no professional by any means necessary to be reading golf courses, but I enjoyed it. I actually shot my lowest round of golf. I shot a 90 which I was proud of, it was a fairly easy course and this gave me a lot of confidence for my next round
Most impressive the greens have really recovered. Theres still some rough areas that were apparently too wet to mow, but I think that’s understandable.
One frustration the last 6 holes backed up with about 10
Twosomes waiting. Seems like we could get some Marshall help to fix that.
Overall you’re not playing or paying for Pebble Beach so it was a great experience.
Thank you for your good review. We are very excited to see how the course is looking lately.
