About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Nice course
This is a nice course , enjoy playing here. Today was exceptionally slow , not surprising on a beautiful Saturday morning! We had to stop on 15th hole after 4.5 hours of play as we had event we had to go to. Had we finished 18 holes it would have taken 5.5 hours!

Disappointing
This course fluctuates so much. Used to be a great track, then it was trash, last time I played it was much better, now it's bad again.

Thorntree golf club
When I checked in this morning, the guy gave me a cart key and told me to go on. Big mistake. After I teed off, I was then told by a lot of ladies that they were in a tournament and I’d have to wait until the last group went off. Did they mention this in the pro shop? NO THEY DID NOT.! Our t time was 12:20 and there were still 4 foursomes to t off. They should not have given this t time out knowing the tournament would not be finished. Very disappointed with the management.

Management is terrible!!
We had a 12;20 tee time. We got to the first tee at 12;15 and it was apparent we were right in the middle of some tournament. There were still like 4 groups that had to play through before we could go. We tried to sneak over and start on number 10 but the manager came and found us on the green and told us we had to go back and start at number 1 even though we wouldn't be able to tee off until at least 40 minutes after our time. When we told him that he had a bunch of sorry excuses but acted like he really didn't care. It might have been nice if the guy in the pro shop had mentioned to us that we were gonna be delayed by 40 minutes but he didn't. All of that is just indicative of a poorly run course. I would suggest people spend their money elsewhere.
They jumped right in the middle of others that were playing in the Ladies Member Guest by going off #10. When we explained that to them they didn’t want to hear it. We did mention that there might be a slight delay upon check in. Unfortunately some folks just listen to what they want to and don’t pay attention to what is said. Not really sure how you can respond to this without just flat out calling the guy out.
Fun, challenging course
Super fun and challenging course, at least for someone at my level. Only issue I had were a few of the bunkers being practically rock hard. Other than that, it was in great condition

Thorntree review
The course has amazing greens. My issue is the pace of play is really slow and we had a guy walking in our group and we had to wait on every tee box and we waited on the first tee until the group in front of us was on the green. The fairways looked decent but they could use some water and the tee boxes you need a hammer to get your tee in the ground. We played early enough this morning that we shouldn’t have had that issue.

Exceptional Experience
Course was in great shape, pace of play was fast, cart ladies were great, greens were solid, staff was friendly and food in the clubhouse was terrific. For the price, Thorntree exceeded my expectations and I will be back.

The fairways & greens are great; however the bunkers are terrible which makes the overall course conditions bad. Bunkers are a part of playing golf & if they’re not properly maintained it very hard to improve your game.
