About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Great course
Course is in great shape. Greens look slow but roll fast. I would play it again tomorrow. Give them a shot. It’s a mixture of placement golf and some spray and pray golf.

Great shape overall
Great shape for August. Greens were all nice and fairways lush. Few bunkers weren’t in great shape but didn’t affect the round. Bring water, saw the cart girl 3x

Great Course
Course is located 10 minutes from my house. Great condition. Good shade. Range is food. Course has some challenges to overcome. I would recommend this course for anyone passing through the DeSoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill area.

First time playing here thorn tree I love the layout of course you cannot overpower completely different from the tips greens were in great shape staff was friendly no water jugs on the course so make sure you get your Gatorade and water before hand

Water jugs are never coming back
In Texas…. There is a summer that is one of the hottest around - my group got to hole 3 and we’re ready to call it done. No free water offered - it took us 12 holes to run into the cart lady when there is only one course …. And then unlike very other public course in dallas areas - waters are complimentary but oh no not here - they make u pay. Even after calling pro shop on hole 4 he was unwilling to walke (bc he said he had no way to contact cart lady) after I told him I was about to pass out and his response was “ok” —- loved this course prior to them not even giving u a sip of water. Turns out the course can’t afford water and they are doing away with water on the course for good…. How is that reasonable…. Especially with a golf shop full of people that could care less if you pass out mid round. It was absurd and won’t go back after playing at least once a week there. Greens were good tho if u could make it to them. Course will not get water from now on from lack of supply- - so I wouldn’t play until they figure out the Texas heat and hydration. I even when to Irving golf club - a low price course and they even offer water for free from the Marshall that comes by 3 times a round and that course is below average. Overall this crap is despicable at thorntree. But surely they know that, u would think. PSA: Texas summers are hot…. Real hot. For everyone wanting to play bc it’s somewhat a good price - I warn u - it’s not worth the.headache until u see the cart girl 2 hours in the round especially when they don’t have coolers on the carts. Very disappointed is an understatement. And I assume u can’t get a refund bc they can’t even afford water… FYI

Fun Course
I play golf all over the Metro Plex, and this is a very good golf course, Course was in great condition, great layout, not long but tight. A very stratgic layout, need to put the ball in certain areas to play well, A lot of great, fun holes. I will be putting the course on my list to play often.

Good Course
This course is a lot of fun. Everything except for the sand traps was in really great shape. Fun layout and wasn’t crowded at all when we played on a Tuesday, which was nice. Overall I would recommend giving this course a try if you’re in the area.

The course was in great condition
The course was nice. Checked in and we were off. The fairways and greens were nice for July. It was cart path only but toward the end off round it was dry enough to cancel
