The Summit at Shanty Creek

About
During the winter Shanty Creek offers more than 50 ski runs but in the summer it becomes one of northern Michigan's top golf vacation spots. The club boasts four championship courses, one of which is designed by Arnold Palmer and another by Tom Weiskopf. The Summit Course is the club's original layout. The golf course has a similar terrain to the other three but it is not as dramatically hilly. The layout has a traditional design that incorporates player-friendly elements including putting complexes with open fronts that are more accessible to those who can't hit high, soft approaches. The greens on the seventh and eighth, two of the course's most memorable holes, are an exception though. They require both accuracy and a soft touch. The golf course is approachable for all skill levels, but tight, tree-lined fairways keep it challenging.

Very Green For The Money
We saw how green the Summit was when we played a neighboring course. So, when an excellent hot deal price came up for this course, it was a no brainer. Plays very long from the blue tees, especially the par 3's. The course is in mid season shape and it just opened, so will definitely play again this year
Beautiful course.
Had some difficuty adjusting to the fast greens.
Fairways very forgiving.
fairways very forgiving.
Smooth Greens
The greens were smooth and fast. Played the small cups, the large cups were interesting. We didn't see anyone playing the HACK setup.
Classic Up North Course for all levels!!
My grandparents owned a house on the 2nd home for about 25 years, and the "old course" at SC has always had a place in my heart. I took my girlfriend who is just learning there and we played from the forward tees and used the 10 inch cups. We had a great time and this course can be played very easy for beginners or challenging from the tips... $18 with cart in the afternoon is tough to beat... Head down to Shorts in downtown Bellaire afterwards for great food and the BEST craft beer in Michigan!!
"O. You are from Golf Now."
Pulling up to the place you are Wow! This is nice... The as we walked inside no one said hi at all... The pro shop guy was just plan RUDE! As like we did not belong there due to the fact we used golf now.. Ok?? Maybe it's just a bad day...Then as we get book in I go back to the car to load up my clubs... Cart guys just down right jerks ... They asked if I would take my clubs out of the car to load them.. I responded I'll load them thank you, they are very expensive... He then proceeded to mumble something and drive away.... Really I have to carry my clubs 250 yards down hill... Thanks.. And one the first hole my buddies bag fell off the cart as it was not strapped in good. Chipped n scratched 2 of his clubs..they didn't care... We have be gone 2 minutes .. Nope don't care , not responsible ...??Course was very nice. Green fairways, slow greens. ... Again it's Sunday and its 88 degrees out... Ok kinda thirsty... Where is the beverage cart??? 9 holes no cart... Then we are ready for another 9... Well still no beverage cart... Really ok... So we get our own.. No coolers so u don't want to get a lot or they beverages get warm.. 9 more holes no beverage cart... Wow... No thank you... Thought the one guy was having , nope staff was well... Under par.. Bad over all. Damaged clubs, bad service... Never again even if it was free....
Foot golf takes away from course
Course was nice, however foot golf and larger holes took away from the course.
first timer
Great course, greens were in excellent condition for being early spring. I will definitely play thus course again. Great rates.
Old resort course
So so course. Nothing special and there are much much better options within 2 miles. Would play as a warm up for other premiere tracks close by.
Good value for money
First time here. Realizing it was the oldest course on the resort, I now understand why it was cheaper. Overall very satisfied, front 9 was faster than the back. Greens were excellent. However, had a 2 some in front walking and would not let us play through. Plus some sort of soccer golf for kids on back. Not complaining, I realize this is family friendly. Would play again.
Slow play
Had to wait for foursome I front to find balls, and watch poor shots. No consideration to allow us to play through. No course Marshall around to watch flow of golfers. I will never return to the Summit.
Quality course
This course was in excellent shape and staff was very friendly. The course is pretty open making most shots playable. The challenging part of this course was the green's. Lots of breaks and some right before the cup which caused me to three putt three times in 18 holes. All in all a fun course to play and is in Excellent shape tee to green.
Tremendous value.
To be able to play 18 holes on a well maintained course for only $18 is the best deal around. My only complaint would be the type of yardage markers. Painted concrete circles? Lack of ball washers was a slight annoyance. Only about 7 on the course.
Beautiful course
Great couse, nice fairways and greens, well laid out, well marked, lots of trees but not like a lot of N Mi courses where every hole extremely narrow. Only lost a couple of balls and I'm a bogie golfer. Greens very true, medium speed and well kept. Enjoy!
Terrible course
This course is relatively well maintained. The main problem is that there are very few yardage markers and the cart we had was a death trap! The brakes on the cart hardly worked and the brake lock did not work. The greens are well maintained, but they have 2 holes on each green. One is the real hole, and the other is a giant hole. I came into many situations where the giant hole was interfering with my putt approach to the real pin location. The other issue is that they let foot golfers out on the course at the same time, which really slows down the pace. I will never play this course again, and would not recommend it to anyone.
This course was fair but tough
Tough start with blind shots early and often. Greens were quick but rolled fair. Loved the layout especially the back nine.
Worth visiting
A nice course with awesome views.
There were a few "Foot golf" (golf with a soccer ball?) players using the same course though. Also, some greens (3-6 note:
maybe) had 10" wide holes with practice green type flags - in addition to regulation-sized ones.
NOTE: star ratings in this review do NOT reflect actual impressions. They couldn't be entered accurately or adjusted once the initial inaccurate reading was recorded.
Fun Course
Shanty Creek Summit is an excellent choice for the older player who hits his drives 200-240 yards. The holes are not overly long, even from the back tees. The terrain is varied with some steep hills to hit over and through. All in all, the three of us had a great day of golf on this course.
challenging greens!
we found the Summit Course in very good condition and enjoyed the challenge of the greens. Shanty Creek has done an excellent job in keeping their courses in great shape.
Enjoyable & challenging
Very enjoyable course. Greens are beautiful and roll true.
Par 3's are tough! Played the Blue Tees and par 3's were 167, 190, 216, 216. They weren't much shorter if you went to the White tees. Nice elevation changes around the course. Overall I would definitely recommend this course. Challenging but fair.
Great value, good course for new players
We had a great time from drop off thru pro shop to the finish.
