Hunting Hawk Golf Club
About
Situated along the Chickahominy River, Hunting Hawk Golf Club sprawls across a rolling landscape covered with mature trees and dotted with sparkling ponds. The natural wetlands and rugged terrain were carefully preserved. The gentle hills provide contours that are subtle but challenging. The fairways have generous, well-defined landing areas but they are flanked with sand bunkers and sculpted mounding. The undulating greens are also framed with bunkers and grass hollows. Every hole has a unique character that requires a different strategy. Hunting Hawk Golf Club's back nine is slightly tougher than the front nine. It is where most of the water comes into play. The 11th is the best birdie opportunity on the back, it is followed by the challenging 12th, which required a carry over wetlands that many balls have fallen prey to.

Well maintained, challenging but fair
Good course to play, fast and smooth green, well maintained, challenging but fair.
Good course, but not for everybody.
I went out to Hunting Hawk on the recommendation of a good golfing buddy. My first experience there was pretty good overall. The course is pretty long, and you would think that the length is what makes the course difficult...however, the putter is what will make or break your round here at "the Hawk." There are plenty of tough driving holes where I found myself in the woods, but this is something i'm very used to. The size of the greens and the amount of slope found on them is something I am certainly NOT used to. I remember joking with my buddy on the practice green about this obnoxious mound that is absolutely HUGE and runs through the center of the green, and saying to him, "Man, are there really hills like this on any of the greens out there?" He just smiled and I now know why. This is a course where, if you are not on the right part of the green, you might find yourself standing there with a putt that is more difficult than being off the green with a wedge in your hand. Many multi-tiered greens that will put pressure on your approach shots and a few three putts out there just waiting... The condition of the greens left something to be desired too. There were ball marks all over every green, but they weren't a huge deal. The greens were faster than I am used to, even though it was somewhat wet the day I played. The fairways are great, the rough is thick but fluffy and you can sometimes get really lucky with your lie. Overall, the greens were the one drawback to me...other's might love the added challenge. Also, there are TONS of bunkers on this course so make sure your sand-game is up to snuff! The sand was pretty easy to play out of, despite the moist conditions and sheer depth of some of them. If you golf in the Richmond area, you should definitely check out the course for yourself. Using golfnow.com makes it super affordable so there is no excuse! Now that you know my opinion, go form your own!!
Good layout.
Adequate conditions for a public course. Good championship layout. Very good practice facility. Good food at the grill.
nice mix of holes, quick greens, good fairways
Various tee boxes make this course a good fit for all players. Greens are generally quick, not lighting and fairways were good due to our fairly wet summer. I have played tournaments and regular play at this course and always enjoy the day. Booked round through golf now and got a really good deal.
Hunting Hawk Golf Course
GOOD COURSE// If you miss fairway in trouble//rough a little too tll
Greens had some cancer problems
The course has a pretty good layout. Many greens had cancer problems. Course was very wet. Play was slow due to youth groups playing.
This course has some challenging features.
My friends and I enjoyed playing this course. The course becomes challenging when you do not hit your ball in the fair way. Although the second and third cuts are well maintained, it is difficult to find your ball in these cuts of grass.
Great value for the condition and speed of play received.
The condition, pace of play and difficulty of the course make it a pleasure to play.
Good-could be great
Spend some money on the greens. Nice course, nice people
close in (Richmond)
This course is player friendly for all types of golfers
What a great course! Beautifully landscaped and quiet surroundings. Long rolling fairways with midrange bunkers fronting the greens. A country club feel in a multi-wooded/open environment. One of my favorite courses in this area.
