About
This Fred Couples-Gene Bates design meanders through high countries, low countries, secluded woods and open fields. The golf course is not revved up on gimmicks or architect steroids. SouthWood's routing flows seamlessly with the existing elements. Its trademark is the plethora of gigantic oak trees. Couples and Bates didn't stick with one theme; each hole is a work of art onto its own. Five sets of tees make the course playable for all skill levels.

good, fun course
Played on a cool day with winds of 20-40 mph, made every shot a challenge. Wide fairways, slick greens and punishing sand traps are the main features.
One of the better courses in the area
I enjoy playing at this course. I've played several times now. The pace is always good and the staff is very friendly. The tees and greens have always been in good condition, especially for this time of the year. But the fairways are starting the show some harshness. I can't completely blame that on the season, because I played there over the summer. But not the worst I've ever seen and at least you'll have a good roll out. Course has a good amount of bunkers and is reasonably open and the greens all seem to have tiers. I would definitely play here again.
Great course
Course is always in incredible shape. Has a few memorable holes. Huge swings in price depending on how you book or who you talk to $32-75 I've seen. Definitely worth up to $45, not sure about $60+
Great course in the area.
Southwood is another great course in Tallahasee. The course has been in great shape everytime I have played. The greens are extremely fast, which I like. Some holes encourage you to "grip it and rip it" and others put a emphasis on putting it in the right spots. There is usually trouble on each holes but doesn't mean you can't recover the ball in most cases. The course is in town so it can be easy to get to even though it is located in a residential area. That would be the biggest draw back is I have found some of the local residents out on the course. It is a great course and I would definitely recommend it to others.
The course was a good test
The greens were fair and the rough was not too unfair. It would have been nice if hole layouts were on the scorecard for 1st time players. I would play this course again.
great course
The course was great but would have liked it more if they had not sent two singles and a twosome out behind our foursome. They asked us to add a single in with our three to better fit the pace of play but abandon that idea after we left the first tee. Otherwise great day on a beautiful course.
