About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Great course but greens were in terrible condition
Shouldn’t have frozen the greens. Otherwise great place to play
Fun course
It’s a really fun track that has plenty of forgiving fairways, full length driving range and a cool little bar
Greens are hurting
Fairways in good shape but greens are awful. Looks like algae/fungus + infestation of poa annua grass have decimated the greens. Pace of play was brutally slow for Monday afternoon.
Horrible greens, avoid playing here
Greens in horrible shape, don't know what is going on with all the munis (Willie, Kizer and Clay) these days with bad greens. Avoid playing here unless you don't care about putting. Go play either Star Ranch, Grey Rock or ShadowGlen which greens are in great shape.
Austin Trip
Layout of course is nice. However the greens were horrible and we should be notified of that . As paying golfers we should be told that prior to playing course. I played other courses earlier in the week and their greens were just fine.
When the greens are not up to par the count knows this and should advise / discount rate to golfers.
Once greens are repaired the course will be exceptional.
Not good
I have played this course a few times and this is the worst condition I have found it in. The fairways are what they are. At least there were no bare spots. The greens were terrible. There were sprouts of some sort growing across most of them. Trying to putt over them and hold a line was impossible. We have had almost no Winter. They should be in better shape.
Good track for high handicapper
Good day 70* sunny. First rime playing this course. Wide fairways and mostly dry. Brown grass fairways , greens not so good but it’s winter. I’ll be back next April
A favorite of the Austin muni courses
One of my preferred Austin muni courses, somewhat challenging and in great shape!
Had a great time!
Course was in great condition! Staff was extremely friendly. Tacos and margarita at the turn were amazing.
