Rating 72.7

Parlaying the successes of the Dallas-area Tour 18, Houston's version of America's greatest holes has become one of Harris County's most popular golf destinations. This one takes advantage of the Southeast Texas pines, with towering trees lining every hole, and the impressive conditions that have made both Tour 18s popular with the public.

Two holes stand out on the front side, and they're not the replicas of Augusta's Amen Corner (5-7 on this track). No. 1 is perhaps the most difficult on the course, intimidating off the tee because it is surrounded by wetlands. You'll need a solid drive to start well on this narrow, 440-yard hole. Bay Hill, La Costa, Inverness, and Pinehurst are also modeled, but the other great hole on the front is No. 9, a version of TPC Sawgrass's island hole.

Texas' own Colonial's third hole makes a showing on No. 12, and you'll get to see what Pebble Beach might feel like on No. 13. And those who've played the Dallas track know that the crew can sometimes get diabolical with their stimp-meter readings and pin placements, which is similar to what happens on No. 15-a replica of Shinnecock Hills' 8th hole. The green on this one slopes so heavily toward the front that a three-jack is almost certain.

Doral rears its head on No. 18, the perfect finishing hole for this track. Play the approach to the right side of the green, away from the water left, just like the pros do when they're protecting that precious lead.

Getting there : From US 59 north, turn right on FM 1960 and drive east for about 2 miles to the course entrance.

Awesome

Loved this course. Greens and fairways were beautiful. Got my first birdie ever and I have been playing for 4 months. It was on 17, birdies the putt which sat right off the green on the fringe.

Layout great, no drinking water on course!

Fun layout, greens rolled well. Enjoyed the round except for one thing - no drinking water on the course. Are you kidding me? Houston, TX and no water on the course.

Great Day at Tour 18

My first time back in a year and the course was in great shape for late February. Apart from slow greens and bunkers in desperate need of additional sand (basically hardpan lies with a thin layer of sand), the course was in great shape!!

Longest round of my life

Always wanted to play this course. Was really looking forward to playing that morning, then when we looked over at the first teebox and there was 4 groups waiting to tee off. By the back 9 we were just tired of the slow play and overbooked course. Stayed and finished the round but ended up being nearly 5 hours by the time we walked off the 18th. Was a huge disappointment. Course was in average condition, greens were discolored in spots, but played ok.

Austex

Greens were a bit thin but consistent and for this time of year overall good.

Fairways are great very big , lots of forgiveness there.

Amen corner is tough but fun

Only thing I’d recommend is gps in the carts.

Typical winter conditions

Greens not in good shape. Like the course layout and elevation. Will try again in spring or summer but not for $100

Needs Some Work

Always enjoyed playing Tour 18. But the course seems to get a ton of '1st timers' with little to no etiquette or sense of 'pace of play'. I will say the Marshall saw our struggle and helped us play through 3 different groups...for that, much appreciated! The course itself needs maybe 1000 truck loads of sand for the bunkers...hopefully that is in their plans for Spring. It was a wet weather day in January, so I will give them another shot in the spring. Hope to see some grass on greens, raked bunkers, etc for the price they charge on the weekends.
