Fell in love on the drive up
This was my first time playing this course and I have to tell you I was skeptical b/c all the reviews I read was on how the elevation changes and the course was so perfect that I was like no way. Let me tell you, it's all that and more. Its challenging and also very forgiving if you can hit it straight. Recently I have been able to do that so I only lost 2 balls. One on an errant swing and the other to the water after a beautiful tee shot right now the middle of the fairway. I got this as a hot deal and played with 1 person and we started at about 10 minutes after 10 and finished around 1:45. The pace of play was perfect and a couple let us go right ahead and skip them b/c he was giving his wife lessons. The elevation changes makes 130 look farther and sometimes much shorter than 130 normally is. I can't wait to play it again now that I have played it to see if I can best my score.
Great course
This has to be my favorite course in Alabama . The variety of holes and layout is just great. Greens have been punched but should be good in a week or so.
Great time and great value
I’ve always enjoyed playing at Gunters Landing Golf Course. The course was in great condition on Tuesday. We had a 10 a.m. tee time. The tee boxes and fairways were well maintained and the greens were rolling exceptionally well. We had a great time and booked through GolfNow on a hot deal.
This course is a must.
Beautiful yet challenging course. Course was in amazing shape. Enjoyed my round and looking forward to playing again soon.
Gunter's Landing 4-14-18
First round of the year for this Ohioan. Came down to Northern Alabama a couple day's early for some golf before scheduled work meetings. Found the course to be in dormant/dry conditions as usual this time of year.Tee shots running out an extra 20. I played the back tee's (Gold -2 hdcp). It felt as though I was playing couple different courses during the round. Some had crazy elevation changes some had a feel of Parkland and Woodland style holes. A majority of the holes were very straight forward albeit demanding accuracy off the tee. Fortunately I am a pretty straight hitter and the holes greatly rewarded that. The par 3's were very difficult (The Gold Tees really made them challenging. You had better flight a quality shot into the greens or you were at the mercy of some very interesting if not unplayable positions. Very much an approach shot course. Just as the pro warned me...you needed to stay under the holes (if you can). The greens ran true and were pretty straight forward. I found the greens to be very receptive...they need to be on this course.
For the $26 dollars I paid on GN this was a bargain. You and your golf buddies can have a good time playing here as long as you have a "pick up after you achieve quad rule in effect. Better players will appreciate the challenge of this design as well. You will get a chucke standing on 3,5 and 10 thoough!LOL.
-Definately worth playing!
MJ from OHIO
1st round ever
It was my and my group first round ever at this course. It was very peaceful, great views, friendly staff. I was the local and My group was from out of state from Chicago, IL and was very impressed with the layout and has it on the playing list when they comeback. My group ranged from 4-15 hcp and was able to play it from different tee boxes that fit each of our skill level. A+ all round, it is a must to play for everyone!
Must play in N.Alabama
Gunters Landing is one of the top courses you can play in North Alabama. Very challenging course but it's fair to your score. If you hit golf shots you can score on this course if you spray it around then it'll be a long day. Either way it's a fun course to play and is always in top notch shape tee to green
Great Track
Dormant this time of year and sure to be a great course once the warm weather hits. Very nice staff also! Make sure to stop off here if you can and play this one, beautiful views!
Farmer
Stopped on hole 11 ran into group of 8 on the hole. Club offered green fees for us both and apologized for members.
Highly recommended!
I’ve played for almost 50 years and golfed from South Africa, New Zealand, Bermuda and all over the US.
However, this course ranks as one of my all time favorites. I live 50 miles away in Huntsville, Ala but try to get here every other week. It’s a treasure and a pleasure to play this scenic yet challenging and rewarding course!
Love it!
Great crouse
Love the crouse. Really like the high tee box's. And really like # 10
As always-great experience
This course never disappoints. Always in great condition.
I love playing here for the unique layout, challenging holes and scenic vistas.
I wish this course was closer than my 50 mile ride to get there, but it’s worth it!
Beautiful views
Dramatic elevation changes make this a challenging course. Perched high above Lake Guntersville scenic views of the Tennessee river are numerous. The greens were moderate to fast depending on the slope. Fairways were plush with few if any bad lies. I rate this course as have to play again.
Great course
Course in great condition. Well kept. Hole locations can be difficult at times.
Mountain beauty
This is truely one of the must plays in north alabama. Very well designed mountain layout with the exception of hole 8. This par five has a water hazard too close to really hit a good long drive thus leaving a longish second shot and then a challenging third to an unfairly undulating green beyond a second water hazard. That said, seventeen out of eighteen makes for a very worthwhile challenge.
Exceptipnal experience!
Steve and staff are always friendly and welcoming.
The course was in excellent condition; especially with all the foliage leaves.
As always-an exceptional golfing experience.
Great place
Beautiful this time of year. Course is always in great shape.
Not what I had expected... in a good way
I must say that I had a preconceived notion about what to expect at Gunter's Landing, having never played here before. I had read previous reviews on Golf Advisor and thought the course perhaps was propped up by some overzealous locals.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
This makes twice in the span of seven days that I have fallen in love with courses within a two-hour drive that I had previously never laid eyes on.
The first thing you will notice as you pull in is this is not just another rural course trying to be something it is not. The conditioning is well above average.
The second thing you notice is the first two holes across the street, which ooze a common theme throughout the round: massive elevation change. In fact, the tee shot on two is exhilarating!
The collection of par 3s here are among the most difficult I remember playing. The first one, number three, requires a ~160-yard tee shot over water to a peninsula green that slopes severely from back to front. The fifth and 10th holes require downhill 150-155-yard shots to thimble-sized greens over large chasms.
One of my only constructive criticisms of the course lies with the group of par 5s. All are gentle dogleg rights. Though there was some variety in hazard placement, they played very similarly.
There were a good mix of uphill, downhill, long and short par 4s.
The back nine is more scoreable and more scenic, providing views of Lake Guntersville, the Tennessee River and surrounding mountains. The front nine is daunting, showcased by the difficult seventh.
What I find so intriguing about this course is that there is no weakness in your game that you can hide. You must drive the ball accurately, as trouble borders many fairways. Approach shots must find the right parts of greens, as you must be below the hole. Even the deftest of putters will be tested. The Bermuda greens were ultra fast. You must leave yourself below the holes to score well. Most of the greens are large and severely pitched, and putting across them, or downhill will leave you scratching your head. I three-putted three times, and it would've been twice that number if not for some +10-foot saves.
Knowing how to club up and down due to elevation change is a must. Also, grab a free course guide from the pro shop if it is your first time. You will need it to gauge layup points on the par 5s.
The range was modest, but serviceable. They have a really cool two-hole short course practice area.
In conclusion, Gunter's Landing far exceeded my expectations and will put pressure on all facets of your game. If one part is off, even better players will struggle to break 80.

Golf on a sunny day
Wonderful design on this golf course. Very challenging shots from beginning to end. It is a Course for more advanced players. I would not recommend it for beginners or below average players.
