Two long par 4s (15 & 16) make for a meaty finish. Photo submitted by BrandonTuckerGA on 06/12/2017
Only 1 green needing attention. No sand in bunkers.
Only one green was in poor condition and several were very well maintained. Most fairways are what you would expect from a course in a drought striken area and playing in August - brown patches and a lot of roll. Some of the holes with newer type of grass on the back-9 were excelent. However, very few bunkers had sand in them at all. Hitting out of hardpan with a lot of marble-sized rocks. The few bunkers with 'some' sand were crusted and walking did not penetrate even that, let alone the club head. I would not play paying full price, but the late afternoon round with the the discount posted on the Golf Now site made it reasonable.
Course needs some water and work.
Texas is in the middle of a drought, so it's understandable that golf courses will want to save on watering. That said, a number of the fairways were dry with clay showing through in the fairways and some of the so-called sand traps are dried clay pits. The greens were the spongiest I have ever felt and the ball did hold up and spin back nicely, though. Some of the greens have sod repair in places that is growing back but still somewhat detracting. The staff was friendly and the club facilities are decent as well.
Riverside Review
Riverside is Riverside for the most part. Fairly forgiving and wide open. Not a lot of lush fairways by any means, mostly dry, scrubby rough areas. The greens are really where the course has its issues right now. A lot of new sod laid on greens, which is great...shows investment in the course. Whoever mowed the greens, however, needs some work. Green edges were left without being mowed, and most greens were well overgrown.
All in all, for $22 including a free draft beer, you can't complain too much!
Surprisingly solid course!
This course is solid for a public course under 50 bucks. Its well maintained and is challenging in some spots. It's the old Austin Country Club course and you tell that at one time it was a premier course (probably 30-40 years ago). I was expecting a lot less and came away pleased and will definitely play it again. For someone like myself who recently broke into the 90's, this is a great course along with Kizer and Jimmy Clay to get solid rounds in without having to pay $80+ or drive out to Lago Vista to stay under 50 on the weekends.
Overall I am very happy with this course, I hope they keep the condition maintained (greens were nice and fairways were good too).
A good little course, hope it sticks around.
I thought Riverside was a neat course to play. The layout for a "shorter" course made it challenging in picking tee shots and playing position golf. Nice open fairways and guarded greens gave it a fun aspect, and the greens themselves were in pretty good shape considering current drought conditions. Tee boxes were pretty level, but the rough areas were almost non existent save for around greens.
Course really needs attention
After reading the overview of this course, it sounded like a great value for your dollar. But as you are driving through a very undesirable neighborhood, one may realize you should be packing more than golf clubs. There is no driving range but rather a net with 4 mats to hit off of. The restrooms in the clubhouse haven't been cleaned since 1989 which may be the last year this course was tended to. The greens were like putting on the beach in Galveston while there were more weeds in the fairway than grass. I just wonder if this a result of the such Texas drought or just poor course management.
very nice place to have a round of golf
In this course, you will feel relax driving in the woods. Enjoy nice briz. A nice place to spend an afternoon.
Good Value
Front 9 greens were a little scorched and the rough was pretty dry. Back 9 was nice. Went on a Monday afternoon and course was fairly empty. When you make the turn, you are nowhere near the clubhouse so if you want a cold beer, get your cooler before you tee off.
THE GREENS ON HOLES 1-5 JUST HORRIBLE
THE COURSE OVERALL IS GOOD, THE GREENS AND THE CARTS NEED WORK .........
Some greens were great.
Course needs attention from the tees to the greens. No driving range only an old tore up hitting net and a nice practice green. Fairways need some attention course is open but can be tough if you miss the short grass.
Greens needs TLC
Went back to Riverside for the first time in 4+ years. Fairways are OK, but some greens were in terrible condition. So bad putting was physically impossible from some spots. It is not a memorable course. The only hole I remember was the ridiculous tee on #1 hole. The #1 tee box needs to be moved. I have played much nicer course at lower price. It will be another 4+ years before I return.
Riverside golf course
The course was good on the greens and fairways but the rough needed to be mowed for me.
Good value, greens need attention
Great value, probably the best in Austin.
Tee boxes were all pushed back but still a short course. During the week Hole #1 is Par 3 and on the weekends its a Par 4. (71/72)
Negatives:
Not a ton of issues with the fairways but on several holes (approx 5) the greens were so shoddy there were 15-25 sq ft strips of sands instead of grass.
Course is not all that long.
No driving range (that I saw).
Positives:
DIfficult pin placements.
Great value.
Not crowded at all.
Greens need major attention
I had never played Riverside and found a good deal here so I decided to give it a chance. I will never play this course again. The greens were in horrible condition. Nearly every green had large sand and dirt spots. The bunkers were more like gravel pits filled with rocks (I actually hit a tee shot that landed in the middle of a bunker and it bounced out and rolled a good 15 yards passed the bunker). The only positive was that the fairways were in decent shape. I wouldn't recommend playing this course unless you could play it for under $10. There are courses out there that are much better for the same price.
Riverside
The course is in pretty good shape. The greens had their moments and could use more attention but otherwise well worth the money.
Good Course, Great Value
Nice course, that can be more challenging than it seems at first. Greens were really fast on the day we played. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Overall an excellent value! We'll definitely play here again.
Harsh conditions
I went on a day where there were 40mph winds and was overcast. The course was in pretty good condition overall. The t boxes were a bit sandy, the fairways were hard but grass covered, the traps were decent and only a few of the greens needed attention.
Great place to play
HAS SOME REALLY FUN PAR 5'S and greens are in good shape
Good for the money, but you get what you pay for.
Can sometimes be expensive, but catch it at the right time and it is under 20. Greens are quite sandy.
Meh...
I've played out here a few times now and this last visit was by far the worst. The course looked like it hadn't been mowed in a couple weeks and they had just sanded the greens which we were not made aware of when we booked. It's a fun enough course which isn't difficult but the conditions leave a lot to be desired.
