Two long par 4s (15 & 16) make for a meaty finish. Photo submitted by BrandonTuckerGA on 06/12/2017
Good course at reasonable price for a casual round for high-handicappers.
This is a typical muni - the holes are laid out very close to each other and walking is always an option. The fairways could be in better shape, but weeds are still better than dirt patches, which is what a lot of the rough consists of. The greens are hit-and-miss - some are watered well and some aren't. But they are inconsistent in ball speed, making chipping and putting a challenge. Lots of bunkers surrounding greens, and the sand is loose, but not very deep. Very little water to worry about.
Good course for all level golfers
I like to play in this course any chance I get. It is fun and I always have a good time with friends or when I am placed with other golfers. The course isn't very difficult, but challenging enough for any level golfer. The only thing I do not like is that sometimes it gets really packed and some golfers do not fix divots on greens, but then again, that may happen anywhere. Other than that I recommend it to everyone.
New Greens, Play it Later
The fairways were in good shape but the course recently put in new hybrid greens. The greens were hard as rocks, slick as grease and just plain difficult to putt on. Other than that, things were great.
old historic course
well maintained, interesting history. too short for todays game. good for seniors, ladies and beginers.
Excellent course with great character and a good challenge.
I think it is one of the best "old" courses of Austin. Very well laid out and none of the holes feel the same. Lots of fun and very fast pace of play!
The course was in decent shape, even with the lack of rain.
The course was maintained pretty well despite the lack of rain in the area. The greens were a little slow but rolled true. A couple of putts were a little bumpy, but for the most part rolled pretty well. The staff was friendly.
This course has very narrow entre onto the green which makes it challenging.
Didn't like students walking through the fairway. They didn't pay attention. Signage wasn't the best and we were uncertain where to go at times. Could improve yard markings as we were not always certain how far away we were from the green
this course is very challenging and fun to play.
Great golf course. Always easy to get on and speed of play is usually about 4 to 4 and a half hours.
The fairways were in fairly good condition. The greens were kind of choppy. Had lots of weeds.
I felt it was a little overpriced for the condition it was in.
Shot my best score yesterday!
Riverside is one of Austin's oldest courses and most challenging.
The conditions are great with the greens showing a fast pace.
Greens in good shape
This course is average. Some of the fairways have always needed attention, but the greens are always in good shape. Worth the golfnow "hot deal" rate.
Great value, close to downtown
Nice course, friendly staff. Greens and cart paths were in great shape. It's a great value very close to downtown Austin.
This course is by far my favorite. You will defiantly have to finesse your way around all the par 4-5's. Great Staff and Tin Cup Grill is my fav!!!
Arrived at 10:00am to check-in for my 10:30 Tee time staff was more than helpful as was the pointer over a conversation about some of the difficult hole layouts and history about this course. I was blown away on how the greens are rolled today. Pin location was a challenge. Course was in pristine shape. My cart was very clean.
Tight and fast
If you have never played this course then you are in for a treat. First watch your ball land and immediately run to it, other wise it will be lost in the thick rough grass. Second this course has some of the fastest undulated greens in Austin and that is what makes this course challenging. You start the back nine with 2 par 3's and then follow that with 2 par 5's with the next 4 holes being par 4's then finish with a par 5 all of which have their degree of difficulty if you don't hit the correct club. So bring some balls and have at it.
Really enjoyed course and pace of play.
Had a very enjoyable round. This was our first time on this course and we would play it again, very comfortable pace of play.
a convenient challenge
Riverside was in good shape when we played on 10/28/12, particularly the greens. A challenging, but scorable, course that is located 10 minutes from downtown Austin. Only complaint was that the old men play a little slow on Sunday mornings.
Riverside offers a great challenge
Played last Saturday and course always offers a great challenge due to its small greens and shorter holes requiring proper layup yardages unless your short game is Tour caliber. The greens are in great shape and roll very nicely. I really like this course as it offers a fun time with a great pace of play. The very large trees provide just the right amount of challenge without being impossible to deal with. Definitely a course that I enjoy. Only negative would be that the course does not have a driving range.
Somewhat difficult with a low fun factor.
I visited Riverside through a SCGA member outing for I'm sure a fraction of the normal green fees so I don't want to throw them under the bus. However, the course lay out is somewhat odd. It has several blind fairway shots that don't make sense; it's fairly challenging for the first time player. The staff was very friendly and organized and the course is well maintained. Not as much fun as I would have hoped.
Good for the money
Good course for the good price, great staff. Quick 3 hour round...
